- One year on from driving it for the first time in Turin, Jack is reunited with the Swiss-made Microlino - this time in London. The creation of a Swiss company best known for kids' kick scooters, and with a design inspired by the iconic BMW Isetta, could this be the perfect car for city driving, and the happiest way to travel?

Wished these can come over to the States. The antithesis to the gigantic pickup trucks we have here
Recently passed by a fresh from the factory lifted pickup. The top of the wheel wells were at least as high as the roof of my Saab 9-3. As they say in Detroit, masculinity [sic] = mega profits. [And truck loans that break the family budget.]
I would stuff it in the back of a toy hauler RV... 😎
@@texleeger8973 Yup. Ball magnifier. Me Tarzan, me have truck.
@@texleeger8973When it meets all our safety standards, of course.
please wear crash helmets when you drive these among the american monster vehicles there
The camera grumpy cat guy was the cherry on top.
😅😅😅
I know him and I can confirm he is EXACTLY like that in real life.
Top speed 59 mph , top of the range 14.5 kWh battery about 140 miles , price starts about £15000 .00 according to latest reports 😊👍
Too expensive. Get a Chinese BEV with better specs for $7k
decent specs...15k tho HAHA
@@bugbreadbuns I mean at some point people have to decide if they just want to moan about things looking the same and being built in the same factory in China - or if they really want to support innovative concepts built in Europe. If they want option two then their cars will be more expensive, that's just the reality. Most people will probably go with option one 🤷♂ (but keep moaning anyway).
top speed 59 thats nearly three times the limit in Wales.
@@junglist_ikon im not moaning, i think cities like London should be filled with micro cars like this. but that wont be a reality any time soon if they're priced at 15k. also, as a consumer I dont care if something is built in china (as long as it is reliable) or the innovation that went into it...at the end of the day just give me a electric micro car that I can zip around central london. it can look like a soulless blob for all I care
I mean if you have to have a car in a city, this is the car you should have :D It is absolutely cute! Those monsters that won't even fit the parking spaces look so ridiculous next to it!
‘Super narrow little gates’. That’s the very one I got an e-Tron wedged in when I hired to try out the EV experience before buying. What a fantastic little bubble. Love it - want one! ❤❤❤
The styling is utterly unique... to the BMW Isetta, which first appeared in 1955. Setting aside the obvious fun and practicality of this new EV (which it absolutely has), to say that it's "a design inspired by the iconic BMW Isetta", is more than a bit of understatement. In reality, this, albeit brilliant EV, is an updated EV copy of what BMW produced 68 years ago.
Look like a lot of pieces would swap over.
BMW missed the boat for reissuing the Isetta. Kudos to Microlino for bringing it back.
Their first prototype was an actual Isetta converted to an EV
The Isetta was designed and made by Iso. Iso licenced the design to various companies around the world, BMW is just the most well known licencee. Iso went on to be more well known for the Rivolta and the Grifo.
Driving an electric motorbike lately. It is truly fun. It feels faster, but it isn't - i checked the speedometer and the smiley face sign that tells you your speed agreed with the speedometer. I was shocked. And this Microcar I bet will be the same, it will feel faster. Good job!
i sat in one at fully charged it was great, wish i could have drove it. there was more attention around this than the other cars near it. also this proves the concept light weight and only needs a small battery.
I have driven a Piaggio Ape 50 for a few years. It’s slow, small, but got a lot of cargo space. And you couldn’t park anywhere without answering questions about it. And I think it’s the exact same thing here. It’s so different in dimensions compared to a „normal“ car - it’s just brilliant.
This is what most EV manufacturers dont get, not everyone wants an overpriced generic looking EV.
Overpriced generic looking SUV EV*
Most do...now I want an early body
Micro EVs are never a strong business case. They don't make the manufacturers enough profit to justify investing ££millions for them. They are targeted for people who live in London and drive less than 12 miles a trip. They are really bought as fun cars by people who already own one or two other cars. Only niche carmakers that have no hope of competing in the mainstream EV market make such cars. Because to them, a little profit is better than nothing at all.
@@cerverg found you let’s get you back to the content you normally should be watching. 😊
It costs 24000 Euros.
For me, the best report on RUclips, which speaks from my heart. There is no better way to describe the 'feeling' of a Microlino owner.
I love the Fully Charged Show
BTW: 28.09.2023 will be my first year owning this great vehicle ❤❤❤
And how is it going? Are you having fun with it? What are the pros and cons? Cheers
And how is it going? Are you having fun with it? What are the pros and cons? Cheers
20k for this is just too much.
..I don’t think it is aimed at people will worry too much about the price
This is one of those cars that I see really often on this channel that I wouldn't like to own as my daily driver (although I don't actually drive daily) but I'd love to be able to rent one at a train station in a new city.
That is an awesome idea. Hopefully some cities out there actually implement it
Having driven one of the original Isetta’s my dad had 3 in the sixties I can confirm the fun factor. So glad it’s coming to the UK, where is the number plate🤔
I remember getting that sort of reaction driving the 1st generation of Smart cars. .....Made the driver grin like a Cheshire cat too.
59mph & 140 mile range is enough to be useful. I could be tempted.
not sure what’s cooler - this car, Jack or cameraman Andy’s happy face.
I love the design of the microlino. It has so much style and is so sensibly sized. A good top speed too.
I hope it inspires many more manufacturers. My design preference would be for these mini EVs is to have one seat at the front making it duel left/right hand drive and to have a passenger seat or boot space behind but a square shaped wheelbase does look really fun to drive.
I hope Fully Charge continues to bring attention to these mini EVs/Quadcycles. The Silence S04 looks interesting with its removable batteries.
I hope this comes to Canada. It would be the perfect second car for us.
As long as you don't get sideswiped by a Ford F150
@@stephenperron6539 you haven’t seen downtown Toronto. E bikes are everywhere like an infestation lol
Jack has to be one of the best presenters on the planet, will probably watch anything he speaks about
Really? Very long on waffle, but giving almost zero information!
@@richardkingadi5511 you like waffles?
What a great little car! I have images in my head though of a group of yobs walking past it at night and rolling it over onto it's roof!
As a Smart Fortwo owner, I love it! Small cars in cities, FTW!
A little van version of that would be so epic
get a daihatsu little van and convert it to ev😂😂😂
I think Piaggio has a lot of options for that. :D
I *love* it! I am really hoping that they eventually sell these in the US!
I could see how it could work in a city like Boston. I wouldn't want to take it on an Interstate, a Silverado could run over you and it's driver would just feel a little bump.
@@joshuarosen465 Certainly - big highways are not what it is intended for. But a city or suburban runabout - it looks to be great for this!
@@NeilBlanchard I don't see how there could be a sufficient market for something like this in the US. Aside from a few Northeast cities it wouldn't work. As I suggested it would be excellent in Boston as long as you kept it inside of 128. Traffic moves at walking speed in Manhattan so it would work there and it would work in Philadelphia. But as you move West cities are stitched together with expressways. I could see using it in the neighborhoods of Chicago but I wouldn't want to take in on Lake Shore Dr and certainly not on any of the expressways. Out West maybe in San Francisco proper but not outside. All of those cities that I mentioned have good, by American standards, public transport which reduces the need for something like this. Europe is full of cities and towns that were laid out in the middle ages long before cars. A vehicle the width of a donkey makes perfect sense there.
@@joshuarosen465 I think there is more than enough places where it would be very useful - in suburbia and in cities. Millions and millions of people live in places where it would be a great choice. in my opinion.
@@NeilBlanchard Universities
this is a smile mobile, really incredible design. wish they had these in the US
Looks great 👍🏽 Hope they sell loads. This was a nice snapshot - a longer review please 🙏🏽
I saw one in real life in the town of Nerja, andalucia Spain. It was awesome and a perfect car for that small mountain town with narrow streets.
I want one just for the "GRIN" factor alone. What more do you need.
⚡ *Nice to see Jack back with a tiny, quirky car!* 🤙🏼
It looks like an airbag, I love it 😂
Just more practical to have "micro" cars for most daily journeys.
Ah - what you said about this vs supercars reminded me of my holiday trip to London earlier this year. Me and my brother happened to stumble on to a McLaren Senna - yeah, cool and all that - HOWEVER - just around the corner there was a Citroën Ami micro car... and that was so much more fun and cool to see. Hands down "Car of the Day". Also noticed that you passed by a Zoe very much like mine, but compared to the Microlino it looked enormous... good indication of how small the Microlino really is - I hope it finds it's way here to Sweden too, eventually! Lovely little thing!
Funny story, I once went to Monaco and out the front of the casino was an assortment of the most exclusive hypercars you've ever seen, like the least exclusive one was a special edition slr McLaren. And a small group of people crowded around checking out a beautifully done convertible original Fiat 500 with just a beautiful paint job and nice hand stitched leather interior.
Anyone with money can buy a hypercar, but a car with novelty takes someone with taste.
Take the PM for a spin Jack...I'm certain he'd love it...at 20:30, 20:35, in fact anytime of the day or night!
I had one of the first smart cars where I live and it ALWAYS made people smile. Drove to Banff once and we were surround by nothing by smiling people. I doubt it will come to Canada anytime soon but I did put may name on the waitlist just in case. Great neighbourhood vehicle. Not so great in a Canadian winter but still worth it of it ever arrives on our shores.
I totally share your enthusiasm ! Great review, thanks! I like to add one interesting point: depending your local legislation, micro car can be parked on motorcycle spot, which is space and cost saving ! 😉
Looks amazing, and happy to see Jack fits!
Some specs would be useful!
Love it. Still want one. Would never get the chance to use it as I need a family wagon/long distance work wagon… BUT I STILL WANT ONE. So fun.
I wanted one as soon as I saw it at a Formula E race in Berlin back in 2019 - and I still want one now! 😁
I've already seen about 10 of them in Switzerland.
My Honda E is the same, it makes me smile everytime I drive it. I always get asked about it. Lovely place to be (even though the range is shocking)
I put my name down for one of these years ago. They are just soooo cool. However, they are now priced way, way, way more than initially promised and for something quite so basic. It's now a rich person's toy. A third car after the Porsche and Range Rover. For me, these microcars should be about democratising transport, but the manufacturers have gone in a different direction. Still, good luck to them.
Honestly, everything electric is way too expensive, especially if it isn't built in China like this isn't. I think considering it has a fairly healthy range and can go 90 kmh the price is OK.
Their production numbers are still way too low to achieve 'economy of scale', etc (1k / year needs to be increased to e.g. 100k/year, or more)... and unfortunately whilst some costs drop as the vehicle gets smaller, others don't... meaning that 'little cars' are always more expensive for their size than larger cars (even if they're more basic).
Totally agree far too overpriced for what they are! Better off with a small second had citreon c1 or something.
It's kind of like the old 2cv I had - took it everywhere - it was fun - recon I did twice my usual annual mileage because getting behind the wheel was an adventure that brought a smile to your face - now I have a very safe big Volvo that sits on the drive a lot.
Very nice; even the wheels. Looked to see if they’ve regen braking and it seems they have.
Down the road a 2+2 seater like the Isetta 600 would be nice to see, to fill in the vacuum left behind by many discontinued A segment city cars.
I see Microlino being very popular in China, should they ever cross that bridge and majufacture microlinos in a partnership
2+2 is a whole lot of access hassles, but a little van would at least give you room for stuff, and only need a little extra length.
There are many ev's in china like this already, only far less expensive...
I'd like to see a comparison of this with the Silence S04 nanocar which should also be available in the UK before the end of the year.
Love this one to bits, have been watching it for several years as it went through development, but will it get to Australia? No one is holding breath.
Absolutely perfect for literally ANY CITY
I can’t wait to see the next video from “Me and mon Ami” RUclips channel drop on Sunday! Love these tiny EV’S!!
Love your enthusiasm. This makes sense for some people with a specific use case. It is no use for many journeys so can only be a second car for many households. Fiat 500 is a better multipurpose tool, but even that can't do what a Niro can, or a Dacia Spring even.
I have a 1970 FIAT 500, love it; 53 years old this month. That's the car, not me. I'm 66. This though, might be 'the future'. I wonder if it will ever be introduced here in Ireland? I hope so.
Jack, we need to see two adults sitting side by side. Come on Jack.
My vicarious love affair with the Microlico started with your first vid on it! I hope it will be my next car.
Best wishes from me and Lu [the Patterdale Terrier]. George
PS: Don't care if it is left or right hand drive. I have not overtaken anyone for more than twenty years. Love your vids!
If I lived in Paris, London, or Berlin, I'd have one of these in a heartbeat. This looks so practical and perfectly fit to city life. Being in the US, there's no way I'd want to drive this in any city with all the hulking SUVs and massive over-compensation trucks.
One advantage of having a road-legal left-hand drive car in the UK is that with some modifications, it could make for a great supplemental vehicle for urban postal workers, so that they no longer have to walk through narrow-streeted disctricts
You also drove past Ricky Gervais's gaff in this video. Welcome to Hampstead.
Yes, it's true. Cars of that size are the perfect city vehicles. I can confirm that after driving a Smart fortwo for nearly 19 years. But similar to the Smart, the smile on your face fades when you look at the price list.
Love the new look and is reminiscent of the 1950s 60s old bubble cars like the BMW isetta, Heineken kabine and others. Wish the steering wheel lifted with the door, for easier access, like in the earlier ones but health & safety properly wouldn't let them. Is that one the range topper, with the folding roof or do they all come the same. And will there be options for different battery ranges? If they could get the price down a bit better below £10.000 that would be great, for what your getting, like the citroen Ami EV at around £7000 +
"Heinkel Kabine" (Heinkel was a former airplan manufakturer).
And yes, there are 3 battery options (6; 10,5; 14kWh).
Matching the clothes with the care again, love it! This should also be very popular in Italy,
An electric Messerschmidt would be cool complete with side lift canopy
Seeing a lot of these in the lot nearby besides all other BMW,BW, Audi and Porsche cars.
A nice design and could be appealing for some. Lovely car.
Not for me, living in a rural environment with a family of four.
Sadly, I don't think it stands a chance of coming to the US. If it did, I'd get one in a heartbeat.
I’ve put 98k miles on a 2014 here in New York City. It’s all about the ease of parking.
There are many times when a car like this would come in handy for a great many people. Easy to drive, maneuver and park. Cheap to run, and enough range, speed and space for a fair bit of shopping! I would like one for the 'around town' bits that we all have to do, and saves the bigger car for the long range and/or large load journeys. The only problem with this is the price... 😢
As much as I love this thing the best city car is the kind that runs on rails, coupled together, underground. I do find that the lack of focus on the greenest form of motorised transport, trains, to be a bit of a blind spot of an otherwise excellent channel.
Love these ❤
Surprisingly Rapid. Love it. The new term for accelerates like a rocket.
great for old European cities, like Paris & London. I am looking forward to the day when Paris has no more noisy smelly diesels and especially mopeds. One person roaring through Paris at 4am can be responsible for thousands going to work tired because they were woken up.
Love it, and of course Brighton my. Home Town. Is where bubble cars were built under licence
Looks like a fun little car...but that £15k price is ouch.
Great fun - great video 😊😘
His car is so cool and nice. I would like to get one for myself but I’m not sure if it’s becoming too expensive for me. I’m interested !!!
In Thailand I don’t have to see the same car 🚗
Ok. I might be strange but I would love a soft top version
they make a version that's *almost that
It sure is stylish. I wonder if a side-by-side two wheel version could work, since it doesn't have side doors. There would still be low friction nylon rollers at the corners to limit tipping during hard braking/acceleration. The point is, there's no need for a steering mechanism. Just two fixed wheels driven by two motors.
I really like this idea. I drive a Smart Car. I would like to see two people sitting in the Microlina🧐🤓
I cannot stop thinking that these things look like toads/frogs with their wide-front-narrow-butt stance, and the headlights are absolutely frog eyeballs. I would love to have one of these, and I would be the best Microlino ambassador for the adoring public.
I have seen a Citroen Ami in Hull on the road so yeah , I want to see more of these cool cars !
For 20.000,- Euro?! That is a bit steep isnt it??
I’d love one but I know there is someone somewhere in the Australian government trying to ban them while allowing more huge pickup trucks in
60mph max speed is great , decent range to. Price little high for me althou it's coolest electric car I've seen. I love my leaf 20 it makes me so happy driving it, wonder if I would be in ecstacy in a microlino
Fantastic!! ❤
I had a garage but it was useless ..if I put my car inside I couldn't get out of the car....that car would have been perfect.
I've been driving CNG, EV and Hybrid cars for the last 20+ years. I currently drive a Hyundai Ioniq, after having my Nissan Leaf totaled (not my fault 😅). I live in the SF Bay Area and something like this would be absolutely PERFECT for city errands. Closest thing around here are golf carts which I find way too expensive for what they are. Or decommissioned meter maid cars that get vandalized ALL THE TIME. The US needs to catch up.
Hey Jack. Love your work 👍
Whats the euro ncap rating on this thing? Front collision would be an issue because how do open the door then?
Very cool!
I really am quite interested in one of these but I can't help noticing there was no mention of price! ISTR they were slated to be about £17k in last year's video - has this changed much?
I love it, and want one. But only after some questions are answered.
Battery size? Range? Charging time? Litres of space for the shopping?
I know it's a city car and range isn't supposed to be an issue. But as a flat dweller dependent on on-street charging range really means how many trips to the supermarket before I have to find a charger? And will it do it fast enough that I can hang around having a cappuccino or is it going to need parking up for a while.
Batterysizes are 6; 10,5 and 14kWh.
Question is, how do you get out in tight parking spaces or if someone boxes you in while you're out. Would have absolutely loved this "Iseta 2.0" with scissor style doors instead. But I love it regardless :D
Thanks Jack, if I could I would give the video two thumbs up.👍👍
I was (naively) hoping for GMD's T.27 to show up, but I guess I'll just gonna have to buy a Microlino!
The most perfect rental city car, if you want something more than a scooter. Perfect!
These are great but the lack of airbags and a crush zone would mean they would have to be sold as scooters and motorcycles in North America and indeed I came across a scooter eebsite that said they could refer you to importers to bring it in as a scooter to Canada.
Howevee, there is one difference between these scooter cars and the original Isetta, with the Isetts, the steering whell was hinged, actually two hinges hence double jointed, so it could tilt out with the door allowing you to sit directly behind the steering wheel whereas with the Micro-Lino, the steering wheel pedestal is fixed so you have to sit in the passenger position and slide over. It seems that the double jointed approach of the Isetta would still work well for a mechanical steering wheel and with today's electronics, the steering wheel could easily have been drive by wire and just mounted on the doo itself rather than have a pedestal at all. I can see that regulators might not like a drive per wire setup but surely they could've done the Isetta's double jointed approach and that approach has been proven, besides, it's not like they could be imported as cars to North America...
Unfortunately, I don't see this being priced low, although that scooter website that says they could refer you to an importer for Canada has some affordable prices listed bur they do say you'll get the actual price from the importer selected, the Micro-Lino prices stated in the Switzerland website suggests this will be pricier. I hope it gains enough popularity to stay in business but I think that's still very much a wait and see proposition. If good small micro-cars were enough then we would still have the Smart car so just being a fun little car might not be enough for this scooter car's survival.
I was one of the very frst people to place a pre-order for one of these way back when. Still waiting for them to be imported to the UK. Last I heard the date has been pushed back to 2025! [Grumpy cat face]
Nice one,
Love the have one in Australia for the city and suburbs and keep my people mover for long trips in the outback
This makes me happy
I would love to have one of those in the states lol
