Hey everyone! I hope you are enjoying the first episode of 2018! I got many more planned out for this year, and some of them will take us along to some very exciting destinations! Many thanks to Shaun for spending two days with us on the Stamp River. If you would like to give this a go, get in touch with Murphy Sportfishing in the next couple of months as it is prime time for winter steelhead. :) Thanks everyone for watching!
What a great video for the start of the new fishing year, I love it how a fish caught can make the hardest of days and weather just go away as the joy over takes and makes everyone happy again.
Trying not to be jealous of your life. To fish the beautiful places you fish with the equipment (boats?)(you have access to for the species you fish for as often as yo seem to be able to do would be amazing! Very much enjoy the videos! Please keep making them👍🏻
You two should check out Bedwell Harbour on S. Pender Island...great cottages, dining room/after dinner bar & marina & great outdoor hiking available...oh did I forget to mention "GREAT" salmon fishing also (from boat or shore)✌️😁
We saw you guys fishing this day! Keep up the great videos. I love the questions you ask of the guides Kitty. Your questions are the same ones I would ask......
We're pretty spoiled here for sure. The coastal streams offer steelhead fishing throughout the winter and you can still travel a couple of hours east to do some ice fishing.
Great video guys, nice start to 2018! Id love to check out the stamp river sometime. I was out on the chilliwack River today and got skunked! But hopefully the fish will start pushing up river soon!
Love your videos but i think i speak for many other people who would like to see you venture to some new spots like the great fisheries in northern BC.
On the first day we were at the very top, from the hatchery and down. There are a couple of trail accesses to some spots in that area. Good coho waters when you get back in October. ;)
How do you tell the difference between a big rainbow trout in a river and a steelhead? I know that steelhead are andromous but how do you tell the difference by looking at them?
Kyle, the biggest rainbow trout found in these coastal systems are usually still smaller than the smallest steelhead (but there are exceptions of course), so size would be the first characteristic you use to tell the difference. Resident rainbows are generally much more spotted as well, while steelhead, especially newly arrived fish, have the two-toned metallic colours with spots not as visible. The morphology of both can also be different. Because their diet is very different, steelhead tend to be more slender, more streamline, while rainbow trout in rivers are shorter and broader. These are just general guidelines to go with, so you can't use exact measurements to tell the difference. By looking at more fish over time, you'll be able to tell right away after awhile. :)
Is it a west coast thing to turn the clicker on when you hook a fishon the pin? I fish mainly the Lake Ontario tribs on the east coast and if someone turns the clicker on you kind of look like you have 3 heads.
lol! No, that's Kitty's fishing licence. She had to print her fishing licence at her school the day before this trip, and pink sheets were the only ones available, so, pink it was. :)
Yes! Yes! Google the Greenmax trail or the Stamp Falls anglers trail. Both will give you kilometers of access to good fishing. There are also several places to drive to an walk less distance. Just look at the Google map and give it a try! Good luck!
Rubber eggs can be used anywhere, but in bait ban sections, they cannot be scented. In this particular system, the upper section has a bait ban in effect, while bait is allowed in the lower section. Our bait are defined as both natural bait such as worm, shrimp, eggs, etc, and artificial presentations that are scented.
These are not salmon, they are steelhead. Wild steelhead are required to be released while hatchery steelhead like the last fish in this video can be kept.

What a great video for the start of the new fishing year, I love it how a fish caught can make the hardest of days and weather just go away as the joy over takes and makes everyone happy again.
Definitely! Thanks for watching. :)
Very nice video, Rod. I didn't get bored. It's nice to watch movies of places I recognize.
Glad to hear that Ian! Getting more views is not as important as knowing that my viewers are watching through most of the videos.
So awesome I love it , it’s like a meditation
Thanks! 😊
What an awesome video! Thank you very much Rod and Kitty! I love it!!!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely love the composition of your videos Rod!! Makes me feel like I'm there fishing with you guys! Keep up the great work!!

Thanks Bill! I'm always looking for new ideas and opportunities. :) If you got a contact for me to connect with I would reach out to them.

We saw you guys fishing this day! Keep up the great videos. I love the questions you ask of the guides Kitty. Your questions are the same ones I would ask......
Thanks! Good day up there even though fishing was a bit tough. :) Kitty's great at asking questions for sure. :)
Another great vid Rod. I see Kitty, I like. Nice catch by the way.
Thanks!
Awsome video Rod as always. Great fishing video to start 2018 off. Hope to have more awsome video
Thanks! Definitely many more to come this year. :)
I love your channel man. I see your editing skills have gotten better too ;)
Thanks!
I’ve always wanted to go to the PNW. The creeks for steelies on the Great Lakes here in NY are LOCKED frozen
We're pretty spoiled here for sure. The coastal streams offer steelhead fishing throughout the winter and you can still travel a couple of hours east to do some ice fishing.
Keep up the great fishing episodes rod and kitty. I'm in California and thinking of coming up to BC for a fishing vacay ;)
Thanks! :)
Love your videos Rob! Keep them coming! Some day I'd love to fish BC! Not many steelhead in Southern California :-(
Thanks! Glad you enjoy them. :)
Great video guys, nice start to 2018!
Id love to check out the stamp river sometime. I was out on the chilliwack River today and got skunked! But hopefully the fish will start pushing up river soon!
Thanks Ryan!
love the videos! from San Diego, California !
Thanks for watching! :)
Love your videos
Thank you!
Great vid rod
Thanks Zac!
Good vid but I gotta ask why did you guys throw the clicker on on the pins when fighting the fish? Can't that burn out the clicker?
personally i never turn it on...
They only had it on for the video actually, or maybe just to remind me that I hadn't caught one yet. ;) Normally we don't use the clicker.
Have you ever used the Shimano casitas for salmon and steelhead? If so do you recommend them?
I've never tried.
Love your videos but i think i speak for many other people who would like to see you venture to some new spots like the great fisheries in northern BC.
For sure! It's being planned, it will happen.
Thanks for the video! Schöne Grüße aus Germany ,
Thanks for watching! :)
Great video Guys. Sooo missing BC right now. How far up the Stamp is this?
On the first day we were at the very top, from the hatchery and down. There are a couple of trail accesses to some spots in that area. Good coho waters when you get back in October. ;)
Looks like we might be coming the first 2-3 weeks of September, but i guess the Chinnook fishing will be on then! I hope :D
10:20 get don't be hating on kitties lol snake I got one yesterday and it made my day 😀 any chrome is good chrome
I shouldn't talk since I didn't even land a fish. 😂
Fishing with Rod well if we were all as good as kitty nobody would be watching these vids within it was their fish 😆
What is the name of the guy operating the boat as well as/ while catching great fish? He deserves props! He was killing it!👍🏻

Their boners. Big difference
The Average Joe How long did it take you to come up with that?
I love steelhead fishing. Seeing a plug bite fricken site, and seeing a sterile mow down on a bead
We gave plugs a go but didn't get any. One day I'll get to see those plug takes. :)
Looks like there’s either a random larva or parasite on the second steelie on its right pectoral
Thanks for the video! Makes me want to tango with one of those fish!
You'll have to try it later on this season!
When the ice season draws to a close I'll hit the river!
Is it a west coast thing to turn the clicker on when you hook a fishon the pin? I fish mainly the Lake Ontario tribs on the east coast and if someone turns the clicker on you kind of look like you have 3 heads.

Was that pink paper a tag for the fish?
lol! No, that's Kitty's fishing licence. She had to print her fishing licence at her school the day before this trip, and pink sheets were the only ones available, so, pink it was. :)
GOOD JOB VIDEOS ARE EXCELLENT
Thank you! :)
Nice video
Thanks!
Nice steelie
Thanks!
Any way to fish the stamp from shore?
Yes! Yes! Google the Greenmax trail or the Stamp Falls anglers trail. Both will give you kilometers of access to good fishing. There are also several places to drive to an walk less distance. Just look at the Google map and give it a try! Good luck!
FUN. P.S. I can tell you and your wife have chemistry.
That's not my wife lol... We're both married to others, we just host the show together.
Oh ok. You guys seem like a couple sometimes. Good show.
lol I thought so too! Great videos by the way @fishingwithrod
Lol!! Not his wife!!
It's a Raymond trout -EPF
😆
is using Rubber eggs banned in that river?? and well as Bait ???
Rubber eggs can be used anywhere, but in bait ban sections, they cannot be scented. In this particular system, the upper section has a bait ban in effect, while bait is allowed in the lower section. Our bait are defined as both natural bait such as worm, shrimp, eggs, etc, and artificial presentations that are scented.
so Unscented rubber eggs with a touch of yarn or sparkle would not work??? instead of a hard bead???
I'm sure they catch fish too, in fact I have caught many on those.
That LOOK
That's the look when you see an unicorn. ;)
kitty and her soup! haha
😂
🤔 why is the guide fishing?
Because this isn’t your typical guided trip.
Beautiful scenery, river, fish, and fishermen & woman! Gears and outfits seem to be top notch, but not Kate's netting skill - just kidding :D
Samon is expensive fish. Why no cook at place fishing
These are not salmon, they are steelhead. Wild steelhead are required to be released while hatchery steelhead like the last fish in this video can be kept.
maybe if you guys focused on fishing instead of eating soup you would have more steelies ;)
Haha yes! Food and fishing, always a struggle between the two. ;)
That is exactly what I was thinking lol
You guys might wanna take the clicker off !! would make it a lot smoother fight and less annoying for the video!!
I don't know why FWR channel gets sub increased slowly.
Yeah I have no idea.... 😑
Update more to incentive subscribers
Perhaps you should go back to your old format, minus Kitty.
You've totally redeemed yourselves.
Turn the clicker off!!!!!!
