Awesome bass on the DX. Love the looper. As you said it makes tweaking a patch a joy.. as you get to hear the edited patch playing in a musical phrase. And can get a better feel of how it would work or not. In a musical composition.
No, only one sound for all parts you record. It is only recording notes and maybe velocity. Even more bad news, there is only one loop, it is always in save mode, but will be erased upon power off.
Can you play over the looper? 1) Record a 2nd track? (Layer the looper) 2) Improvise freely over what the looper is playing? - using same or different sound?
Hi Valdis, Yes, you can add more notes (overdub) and you can also improvise provided that you don't have a monophonic sound selected. You can only have a single sound as the instrument is not multitimbral :) Hope this helps .
Thanks for this video! Question: what about the Looper sync with MIDI IN of another machine? In the REFACE DX manual they make an example of sync between REFACE CS and REFACE DX.. ..but if I need to sync with a drum machine? It would be useful if the "start/play" of this looper will start the drum machine, following the same TEMPO/BPM. Are those parameters transmitted/received via MIDI connections? Thanks for your help I am talking about people who want to play everything live WITHOUT a pc/macbook/iphone on stage; it seems none company think about this market regarding the live sync of loopers/loop pedal.. ..this is for obtain sync base that avoid human errors on pushing rec/start with foot in the live situation... :)
This is a great question, I am try that out. Most appregiators and loopers like like can be control by setting the synth to external midi clock... so that a drum machine can start and stop the sequence from the drum machine as well as control the tempo from the drum machine itself. Not if the reface dx has that tegading the lower but I'll try it out
I think by holding a key while powering on. Should be in the manual, I don't own one yet. (Could be in the 1.30 firmware update manual, maybe they added this feature later if it's not in your manual)
I think you can turn it off by holding a specific key when powering it on. Should be info about it in the manual (might be in the 1.30 update manual.) I believe if you go from erase to play to record it also doesn't give you a metronome.
The real time manipulation of the FM engine is seriously underutilised, just look at what the DX200 was capable of. I have the reface DX, [along with the rest of that series], but i so dislike the menu diving which Yamaha expects the user to endure. For that reason it is not performance friendly. As an alternative they should think of releasing a control box with knobs to allow realtime access to the tweakable parameters of the FM engine. This or something similar would go a long way to making this synth more approachable. In my opinion the only time this has ever been attempted was the DX200 groove box. If we had access to the cc controling those aspects, plus a multifunction, multipurpose controller box with a disply which could be assigned those cc and remember those cc controls from one machine to the next, this would solve so many problems where the best of the synth lies buried inside. Here's an example of realtime FM manipulation ruclips.net/video/pmKsN6Z2ruA/видео.html&start_radio=1

The DX is my favorite of the Reface line. (I have the CS too). the looper and effects gives it a nice edge I think.
Is it possible to midi clock sync?
no fuckin way i just ordered this thing and had no idea it could do this holy shit
Is it possible to save the loop with a specific sound, so that you can play over it with a different setting without altering what you've recorded?

@@evankeal what is then a other possibility to store it somewhere?
@@Gnknpn Record it to tape, hard drive? Not sure I understood your question. You cant store a loop on this device.
@@Gnknpnyou can buy a loop pedal
Can we have several loppers in the same time?

Great video! I've recently bought the DX Reface, and woundring if there's a way to genrereate white noise with it.
Can you set a loop length so it doesnt go out of time if you have it set up with other instruments?

Can you use a different sound for the over dub?
No
is there a way to adjust the click volume?
HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU OVERDUB ?
You can have up to 2,000 midi notes recorded.
Looks like the looper doesn't catch the pitch bend?
Nice, thanks
There was more tweaking of parameters than demonstration of the looper’s capabilities. Why not show us overdubbing and other aspects of it?
Can you disable the metronome?
Hi MelVinMaSsacre! Yes, you can :-)
Can you tell me how to do this and is it possible in the CS model as well?

My looper metronome has gone silent on my cs. Dammit
