Judge Marivel‘s desk reminds me of a taxi cab dispatcher desk, rather than the desk of a judicial official. Folders, receipts, a calendar, I envision a couple of bologna sandwiches in a paper bag, a jar of pickles and a bag of Funyuns and maybe a pet hamster running around somewhere. Lol.

Lol I was actually in the Zoom meeting with Judge Marabel that day, waiting for my case to be called. Can confirm nothing else happened after you cut off the footage. Just watched this, so thanks for the trip down memory lane! I was dying laughing the whole time with my camera and microphone off.

When Judge Marabel says “y’all are both submitting the same picture to me,” followed by hearty laughs, was a great moment.
Imagine how the first case with Judge Wong would have played out in Judge Marable's courtroom. He would have let the defendant ramble on, explored disability rights, dug into the utility bills and then adjourned.

My friend who speaks some polish (she's Czech but lived in Krakow for a while) says it's hard to make out but he argues about masks, the judge tells him to put it on or leave, and then he puts on the gas mask and says sarcastic things about masks to the Judge, who then orders him out. He refuses and is taken into custody for contempt, saying more naughty things on the way out the door.

This lady is the reason I rent my guest house strictly as a short term rental w/ a 14 day max. What a nightmare.

The original eviction wasn't about rent. She stopped paying only when they served an eviction on her for the alleged threats. Then they dropped all that and went for rent. I just don't think it was anything to laugh at. It shouldn't have been on this channel - which I usually love watching. But not this. Like elder abuse and Mike laughing at the elder abuse. 🤢🤬

@@cartimandua_ the only thing there is if you stop paying rent you have to put the money for rent every month in an account (I can’t remember exactly what the account is called but it’s with the court uasslly) while you go to court to prove that you could pay rent that month so that way when you go to court you can say look I could have paid rent all these months here’s the money for all those months of rent but I didn’t pay it and here’s the reasons why.. otherwise you have no way to prove that you did have the money to pay rent.

The judge is like the parent who takes an hour to lecture you when it could have been finished in 5 minutes.
He figures everyone is on the city clock, so there’s no loss whatsoever when that time is wasted.
It’s gonna always depend on the defendant (or child). At least with this route, there’s less for the defendant to press on to prolong the hearing. In other words, 5 minutes can take 5 hours.
Agree! It seems this Judge loves to argue and make points, which are legitimate. But, at some point he needs to cut the drama short, get to the point, stand his ground in the name of law, and make justifiable rulings.

I know even a tow and impound fees can break the person teetering on financial brink. But the highlighted (not the norm?) cases in his court border on the absurd.
Given the amount that she owes in back rent,the property management were extremely patient by allowing her to stay for over a year. They could have evicted her with the assistance of law enforcement months prior!

The attorney for the city is so right. The plaintiff’s excuses certainly didn’t meet the threshold for overturning the dismissal. It’s kind of inequitable for litigants to get the breaks this judge likes to give out when other similarly-situated litigants are held to what the law says in front of other judges. That’s not Justice.
A jay walking case in front of this judge would take 20 years.
Judge Wong was great. No nonsense in a polite manner. Honestly I do not know how they keep their patience with some of the litigants.
As a black woman I knew form the beginning of the court appearance they had already bonded on a black level sooooo he was going to let him slide on missing the court dates. This was funny as hell to see the attorney look uncomfortable because even he saw what was going on when they started cracking up 😂

I'll ask again: why is Marable still on the bench!? The man is inarticulate, verbose, and verbally wanders all over the place. You nailed it when you said that was a 30 second case, and he stretched into over an hour, _and_ let that idiot pursue his case even though it had been dismissed. Just pay the $200.
Yeah he’s awful, he lets defendants ramble on with terrible awful excuses and he entertains them. You missed court? Too easy- bench warrant. We’ll even even get you a ride to court with local PD. Shit shut down at once. Two seconds going on social media would prove whether or not he had access to his phone while it was “cut off”.

I hate HOW difficult it is for landlords to get tenants out once they start eviction process, especially if its for non payment of rent! I live in ca and the squatters and criminals seem like they have more rights than the landlords and law abiding citizens! Its ridiculous!🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

Agree 100%. I’ve seen where homeowners have fled their homes bc off roommates that took over. They were stuck with paying their mortgage and all utilities (bc of course it’s illegal to turn them off) for a year while trying to evict. It’s outrageous

The judge isn’t scattered brain, he has a system worked out for storing information. It’s call a quirk. Try and catch him up on anything, I bet he remembers with all the nonsense going on. Just as I can solve a problem while talking with someone, everyone is different.
You just listen. If the judge wanted anyone else to have an opinion, he’d give it to them.
I’ve seen him a few times and this is how he always acts. Everything takes forever in his court. It’s ridiculous how much time is wasted when he’s on the bench

Just stuff) But to their credit they are on top of all their school, theater, band, work, chores, and life stuff! I have helped 'clean up and organize " and they struggle for weeks after. I have learned to just leave it alone. 🤷♀️

My aunt used to own a 6 family and I have to say I could not believe the entitlement of people who think they can live in your property rent free and also completely trash the place. And these same people wonder why there's no affordable housing ...when it's literally because of people like them. It's a bad investment that's why... you don't have a right to someone else's private property...

Thank you Mike for saying the rental issues are diar for landlords. I have had to evict 2 tenants at 2 different houses. It took me two months for each one because I was on top of the notices required. I was awarded back rent for both rentals but both tenants had no money and their bank accounts had been closed. I got them out but never received compensation awarded or damages. The courts do not help landlords in collecting awards.
We had people who moved their kids into the house we were renting and had leases with each child. One was wanted for kidnapping and armed robbery with a deadly weapon and he was living in our attic. We had swat and police raids four different times. All utilities defaulted to me… so I shut off the internet and they finally “returned my calls” to tell me I can’t shut off utilities. They made me jump through hoops then left the place trashed. What I found out is that she used her sister’s ID and if I would have had her name for the background and credit check for home rental I would have gotten three pages of cases on court view.
In Indiana they garnish wages and any other income to get landlords the back rent owed.
I'm a landlord in Rhode Island, specifically Providence. The judges 100% favor the tenant without question. It's so frustrating to have someone blatantly not pay rent and then go to court after paying to serve them and paying my lawyer and have the judge give them 3 months to vacate rent-free. It sounds ridiculous but the landlord is the villain because he owns something I guess so he must be a bad guy.
This case… I can feel myself getting dumber by the sentence.

@@andreastiemeyer2183 That, and there was a case a little while back where a woman was on Zoom who was clearly over her head with her public "defender" in the court room. Marable was belligerent and rude, and her PD was even worse. He barely said a word as she likely kept digging a hole deeper, I think at one point saying he was waiting for her to shut up so he could say something.

"Dupa" is the only Polish word I know My son used to call his step-grandpa "Papa Dupa" which was priceless because my nerdy son asked his "new" grandpa to teach him a Polish word & that's the word said step-grandpa went with, and we turned it back on him. LOL

OMG - this last one had everything - disconnected phone, sarcastic/jaded attorney,, a judge who wants everyone to understand everything, and a plantiff/defendant who is extremely interested in seeing the city's motion to have these cases moved to a Magistrate instead of the Judge. Plus a cameo appearance by a very appropriate email address.... I love how Mike gets so much delight out of these, but I wonder how he manages to NOT laugh during his own court preceedings. PRE-triallllll.....!
With regard to our penniless and phone-cutting plaintive, I believe he’s trying to file a well established ‘fregit et irrumabo’ motion.

Why is this judge allowing this to go on? We need to hold people accountable for their stupidity. This judge lets people argue, be totally disrespectful all the time. It’s ridiculous!
