- Late last year, our trusty producer, Will, and I had the joy of traveling to Germany to visit the folks from NOMOS Glashütte - a brand that is no stranger to us at HODINKEE, or you, as readers of HODINKEE. NOMOS is a small independent watch brand of roughly 260 employees based in Berlin and Glashütte with a very simple goal - to make (mostly) in-house, affordable, and well-designed wristwatches. No quartz, just good old-fashioned well-made movements that range in cost, for the majority of the collection, between $1,500 and $4,000 - a noble goal if there ever was one. We know all this, but I wanted to know more, so that in detail, I could answer the questions "who or what is NOMOS?" and "how do they do what they do?". I love the Nomos design. And their pricing is absolutely bang on.
Way too „cheap“ for their high quality in terms of construction and craftsmanship! They have the same quality as the more established watch companies. Only difference is that they use less complications in their watches.
Nomos watches look awesome. Their Tangomat GMT & Worldtimer offerings are the only ones I've seen pull off such a complication with superb simplicity and elegance. And you get a display back and a fully decorated movement into the bargain making them a lot of watch for the money. Nomos Tangomat GMT or Worldtimer are very, very high on my list of desired watches.
I'm saving up to buy a NOMOS but I can't determine between Tangente and Ludwig! Everybody seems to love Tangente or Orion, but the Roman numerals on Ludwig just look so elegant and classic to me!
I think the Ludwig looks fantastic! One of my favourite Nomos, and I'd pick it ahead of the other two personally

I am itching to buy a Ludwig after having a Club for two years. The Roman numerals have a timeless elegance, and I love it paired with the railway tracks. Very sophisticated and artistic looking.

The last watch with the champagne dial is beautiful!! I personally would like it without the orange and on a darker brown leather strap.
I have an Orion arriving today. Spent a couple of years considering a Nomos but needed to try one on. There isn’t an abundance of AD’s near me but came across on during a weekend break in Edinburgh. On the wrist the watch was even better than expected so an order was placed.

Just astonishing to get this kind of quality and detail at this price point. Costly? Yes, but a cost you can take pride in rather than contemplating a 2nd mortgage.
They make watches for insects though, not human beings, I need an electron microscope to find my 38.5 mm Nomos or to tell time. I'm more comfortable with 44, 46 mm watches

Just show them the caseback, or simply enjoy the subtle character of your time piece and appreciate its value without worrying about what any other person thinks, most of people are ignorants about horology so....don't bother and be happy

Wonderful profile, thanks. Brilliant German design from a once-great and now great again manufactory in formerly East Germany. Colors appropriate for SF Giants fans, too! ;-) Only nit-for me-is pale tan band; as a caucasian, I prefer something with greater contrast, and not too close to "skin tone." But easily addressed.

I love their watches but wish they had radically different looking watch selection. All the models look 90% the same
Saw them in the shop, not my scene.Too small, thin and delicate looking, and I don't like the shade of white.Fine watches all the same.

Just cant bring myself to like this brand. Some of the watches are really nice but an east German watch company who looks for inspiration in watch catalogues and employs guys with beards and beanies... I just cant do it.

Do not buy NOMOS.
I bought two when they were just getting started in 2000. I liked them that much. All were manual winding. I absolutely adored them.
One by one, the winding mechanisms broke down. I contacted the factory and all I got from them was an address and contact information for an American company. I contacted them and they wanted $300 just to review it. $300?????? I paid $500 for the watch!
Don't waste your money. They have become pricey to a ridiculous point but the main thing is that the manufacturers don't stand behind their product. No support. No cooperation.
Yves Azurdia Total rubbish, they didn’t even start in the 2000’s they started in the early 90’s and there customer service is excellent far better and more responsive than many large Swiss brands.

You bought a lookalike.
Stop lying there was no Nomos model ever for 500$. I owm many watches including A. Lange, Richard Mille, AP, Patek, Hublot and also two NOMOS. Their quality is absolutely unmatched especially for the price. Of course their mechanics aren't as impressive as an A. Lange but and A. Lange also costs as much as a house while NOMOS is really affordable and honestly built like a tank. You either bought a lookalike, threw your watch against a wall, or you're lying.
Odd looking watches means few takers. DW does it better. No ones going to see the movement unless you force them to.
