Doomeris. I tried experimenting r&d formula which use for upgrading stuff. I found out that upgrading stuff is also random. Means that sometimes the item will either upgrade or degrade. I tried r&d formula on upgrading Cap 8x and I saw that stats are increasing/decreasing. Hope this info will be useful to you.
I'm way unlucky than u. I got 3 wall hatch formulas in a row, so I basically wasted 180 shards. I also never gotten a gun formula or an armor formula. My best blueprint is a uzi rainy day.

About guns and sturdiness management and whether to do normal repair or delicate repair.(Delicate repair requires lots of items toobut reduces sturdiness very little)

I just use two Uzi and take turn using it to reduce the wear. Use the 50 durabity bed to repair everyday.
I'm not a pro but I realize you don't need a grenades launcher or high power rifle to win this game. All you need is share power in a group fight. I able complete all instance map with 100 points. This game make it money from people who wanna deal the most dmg, while looking good.

Ive wasted more than a 1000 shards on fusion IV alone and still keep getting the Chinese roofs or the mp5 skin. Manor lvl 9 now and still not the damn 590m or the Thomson.

Breaks too fast is almost the same cost as an ak and is almost the same damage as ump9/thompson

I don't really recommend modify sniper rifle cuz is not really worth it, when u got AK u should modify that, the max damage for AK is 62 which the collector edition is 65 capped. At this level, AK is the best, I am not sure if international version have type 95 rifle which that is another story...if 95 is available then 95 is the best. Grenade launcher however, can ruin the mob armor easily,,,
they do have the type 95 and grenade launcher
