The Straw hat pirates raising their arms for Vivi is without a doubt one of the most iconoc anime moments of all time. I've seen this countless amount of times, but it still gives me goosebumps as if it's the first time
I know some disagree because of all the future events but this is one of those memorable scenes and at the time was highlighted as one. They have many goods made for that very scene too. The backstories from East Blue were amazing of course (love Sanjis ending as well as Choppers later on) but they ended with a new member being added. This was the first big scene that ended with them not gaining something, at least not directly as a part of the crew. It was super bitter sweet but it was so damn good. Kids in Japan who wrote X's on their wrist were not uncommon. They've sold wrist bands that has a simple X that to most people would be nothing but a letter or mark but to those who watched One Piece it meant something much more.

Pell's non-death is one of the biggest criticisms in the OP fandom. But that is a good thing in a way, because he does not do that so much in the future.
Why he is still alive? The nuke is said to be strong enough to destroy Alabasta and kill thousands of people. PEll was originally gonna die but due to the 9/11 attacks oda and the editors felt it insensitive at the time considering the tower and bombings therefore made the change.

ROBIN is 10000% here and she's staying!! So Robin is the oldest straw hat, as per current set, and fills the role of big sister on the ship since she's the smartest, wisest, mature, calm and collected big sister. You're gonna love her in no time!
24:17 I think this is a good observation, some of Oda's best storytelling is through conclusions via callbacks and back stories without question. The character writing is subtle and organic, so as you almost don't notice it until you reach conclusions of arcs, which makes the conclusions feel so amazingly satisfying. Because everything come full picture and ties into the overall narrative seamlessly. Truly a master of emotions through subtly.
So bad that the subs translated nakama to friends which is not.. I mean not specifically.. I remember when I was a kid thinking how weird that Luffy acted differently towards his nakama and his tomodatchi calling them all friends.. it was only a few years later after I found that nakama means mostly compagnon that I understood that his crew members are more like a family members to him and that his friends are just his friends that he cares about deeply
I know the patreon guys have told you this but you know that Robin is an official crew cause she is with the SH on the mid credits (the background people standing and not the flying wanted posters cause vivi and carue had one). Look at those silhouette and you'll know its official for sure.
The boat was used to steal the rain from Alabasta. So when Smoker stopped the boat, the rain was no longer being stolen, so it was able to fall on the Island. For spoiler and unconfirmed reasons, there might have been sometthing else there, but for now it is best to think of it as an poetic moment - Crocodile is beaten, the rain fell. No matter if it was Smoker or something else or both. I think is what Oda intended in the first place
About Vivi, there is an entire debate about this moment. She asked if they will consider her their "nakama". That could be used as a friend, but also as someone in your group, crew.
Im not sure if anyone's told you this but the manga/anime was originally supposed to run for 4/5 years but the addition of the 7 warlords Oda added to the world made it extend by about 15 years
If I understood correctly, Crocodile's plan was to use the ship to steal Alabasta's rain by using Dance Powder, forcing it to rain out at sea. When Smoker managed to seize the Baroque Works' ship, he prevented the rain-boat from 'stealing' the clouds, allowing them to follow their natural course and bring rain, once again, back to Alabasta.
Yeah, the Pell-not-dying thing is one of the most controversial things debated under OP fans 😅 But this is the most agregious one in all of OP imo, so I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you
There are three possibilities for the rain happening: 1) Smoker lied to Hina and used the dance powder near the capital. The least likely possibility. Rain powder being forbidden isn't just a world government quirk, it's forbidden because it hurts other nations. Plus Smoker is nowhere near Alaburna. 2) Smoker stopped the rain powder machine a few hours before Croc was defeated, this allowed clouds to drift over the country until they reached Alaburna and rain started to fall. The exact timing is a poetic coincidence. I think this possibility is the one that was intended by Oda at the time. 3) The spoiler one that I won't name. I don't think it was the intended explanation anyway, but if Oda for some reason needed to explain the Alaburna rain 900 chapters later, he might choose this explanation as a semi-retcon. It's compatible with explanation 1 & 2 anyway because Crocodile uses redundancies and contingency plans, and it would help explain Crocodile's performance in Alabasta.
Potentially, Crocodile was using his control over sand to break up all rain clouds, he’s shown the capability to do such things with his sand storms. This could also potentially explain why he wasn't more heavily relying on his power’s vs Luffy.
Do check out episode 131 on your own free time. It's is a wonderful episode that will forever live in my head cannon. I feel it captures the "down time" of the the straw hat crew adventuring and interacting perfectly. Particular the moments with Robin and Chopper
I agree! EP 131 never felt like filler to me and still doesn’t lmao I’m always up for spending more time with the crew, learning more about them and seeing how they develop amongst living with each other lol. It really adds to how close they are as the story progresses. The development of the straw hat bond, and the respect they have for each other over time has always been one of my favorite things about one piece!
I'm pretty sure Pell still being alive is a mystery about zoan devil fruits. Oda knew what he was doing with Pell being alive. To those watching one piece and is caught up. You know what I'm talking about. About ZOAN devil fruits and DYING. Roll the drums "Dum Dum Dum"
My favorite character joins the crew. :) I think you'll both really like Nico Robin; she brings a very different energy and perspective to the Straw Hats. We left two good friends behind in Alabasta. Gone but not forgotten, and always in our hearts, Vivi and Bon Clay. Yes, Pell survived. To this day, I don't believe that we've ever gotten an official explanation, so here is mine: Zoan Devil Fruit users are STUPIDLY tough, even by One Piece standards, where normal characters like Zoro and Ussop can take what would be fatal injuries, keep fighting, and recover. So that toughness, combined with Pell's falcon form, allowed him to 'ride' the wave of the shockwave. That same toughness turned what normally would be 'instantly obliterated' into 'one foot in the grave.' But that's just my personal explanation.

Sorry but i find it bullshit that Crocodile did not die and instead lives and people being okay with it but complaining that a good and honarable person like Pell lives. If Oda does not kill of the villains i am okay with Oda doing it this way
Yeah the way I've heard it described is that Oda doesn't like to kill a character unless it's essential to the story that they die, and for villains in particular he thinks that leaving them alive to wallow in their failure is a fate worse than death anyway. As for Pell, I feel that he should either have stayed dead, or his possible survival should have been more telegraphed for the audience. Maybe showing him get knocked away from the blast rather than implying he was vapourized. It feels kind of cheap to me that Oda really leaned into the sacrifice and made the audience feel it completely, just to undo it later.
It feels like that with Igaram too though. We don’t see how exactly he got away. We see a bunch of arms, but it is left vague if they dropped the explosives or served to pull him off the ship before blowing it up.
@@tranatkikomi6873 igaram’s survival is fine to me tbh, it’s clear that robin threw him off the ship before it exploded and why he wasn’t fatally injured when he arrived in alabasta and we know robin at this point was using crocodile and sabotaging his plans just like when after destroying igaram’s ship she offers the strawhats the eternal pose to alabasta , I do understand the criticisms of Pell surviving but igaram’s survival is fine in my opinion
@@tranatkikomi6873 just before the explosion we see a flurry of Robin's hands, and he "dies" off screen. Then we get a bunch of other clues where Robin lets someone live or quietly betrays Crocodile over the course of most of a saga to build distrust in whether she would actually have killed him. You could reasonably predict his survival, even. Igaram didn't survive the explosion. He wasn't even caught in the explosion to begin with, because Robin was secretly working against Crocodile. That's a satisfying reveal. With Pell it's just whoops that explosion wasn't fatal even though he was directly depicted being swallowed up by it, and just to drive the point home we did some sad flashbacks and also showed the falcon statue breaking just in case you were unsure about what's happening here. I guess we didn't have to bother stopping the cannon shot at all? Someone in direct contact with the bomb itself was on his feet days later. His clothes were barely singed. It's the one big black mark on Oda's writing, imo. In a class of its own compared to every other fakeout in the series.
The general rule is flashback = anyone can die, but present time = 99% of people survive, Pell is easily one of the worst examples of this, and probably the more memorable, everything about his death felt right and then Oda goes "btw not dead" for no reason
The lack of rain was due to Crocodile. Smoker is very strict with his ethics, he might let the Straw Hats escape, but he would never, NEVER break the law. Also, using the Dance Powder to make it rain once would not solve a 3-years lack of water. It was definitively Crocodile's presence and acting powers what kept Alabasta without water, and it's also the reason why it immediately started to rain in the entire country once he was defeated.
I love Luffy's nonchalant attitude in accepting a new crew member 😂. Luffy has many big moments coming up, so dont worry about that. Hes the goat for a reason

Saw the Alabasta arc for the first time a couple of years ago, now I'm rewatching it through you guys. The goodbye scene made me cry like a baby then too, so it's no surprise I wasn't spared this time either. Oda really is unbeatable in making arc-endig episodes.
The choosing of fruits for you guys is a neat addition. Some people with devil fruits kind of make do with their new situation and abilities, but there are quite a few throughout the series that have fruits that are so suited for them personally that it almost seems like destiny. There are lots of theories, even a few in the story itself, about such things. When you listed all the canon fruits in the series so far (of course there will be others), and picked which would be right for you personally, it seemed very One Piece. I've heard that Pell was originally supposed to meet his end at his most heroic moment, but Oda changed his mind afterwards. Multiple stories about what caused it, but there is a very strong majority of people that didn't prefer his return because of the reasons you both mentioned. Robin was curious about Luffy's middle initial. Kureha mentioned the "Will of D. lives on" back on Drum Island. Traveling with a person like that and using them to escape the Navy and leave Alabasta might be the best choice for someone like her, who thought she was out of options and near death. Vivi described the ship as one that sees the light in all the darkness and sails for it...

Vivi´s goodbye is such a masterpiece! Of course, we all agree that narratively, Pell needed to stay in the grave not because we dislike it but because it feels forced. Let´s hope they do the best for the narrative in live-action like they did with Merry (Kaya´s butler).

This is common confusion fans made. The ship "rain maker" Smoker did aprehend is the resaon why Rainbase (Crocodile place) never get problems of dry weather. So, Crocodile did use "dance powder" to keep his base prosperous. Now, the fact that Crocodile passing out made start to rain is still nowdays fruit of several fan especulations and theories.
I think you did not watch some of the filler episodes in alabasta arc, thats why you did not recognize some of the characters that have been showed during the more like an end credit in episode 129, the man who throws something like a barrel to those bird thief, and the girl who pick up some random pink bag, I suggest you to watch some of the filler episode, so you will not miss any characters that has been introduce, like there is an episode in this arc which showcase more of Ace's character and some 4 idiot scammers who are posing as a part of the rebel army in certain town or village in alabasta, they are getting food and drinks from those villagers in exchange of keeping their town safe incase of any invasion from sand pirates, and it is connected to girl and a big man in 14:57 of your video. I think One Piece filler episodes are also worth to watch, thats just in my opinion. I started to watch one piece in my elementary days, 2004 and until today, and let me tell you this. Those were times when I as a fan of this show dont have any choice to skip any filler episodes, and I love those times, because I watched the whole series from episode 1 down to the latest, never skip filler episodes and until now, while im watching your reactions its like I'm missing those episodes coz you never do them a reaction video, when Im telling you that those episode are very worth to watch it is also worth giving them a nice a reaction video.
That’s why I feel a little disappointed (it’s their channel, their content so I won’t push) when people skip fillers. They keep somehow slipping the filler material into the canon and then there’s the “not canon to the manga but canon to Oda” things like what Usopp and Sanji did in Loguetown. I especially get sad when they skip Alabasta fillers because the stories help further humanise the people of the country like that girl who had at first lost faith in Vivi because she felt forgotten especially with there now being the country-wide drought crisis.

oda said that he doesnt like the idea of bringing back dead characters so he will only kill characters unless he is 100 percent certain that that character wont be coming back again in futurre

It's compatible with explanation 1 & 2 anyway because Crocodile uses redundancies and contingency plans, and it would help explain Crocodile's performance in Alabasta.
Potentially, Crocodile was using his control over sand to break up all rain clouds, he’s shown the capability to do such things with his sand storms. This could also potentially explain why he wasn't more heavily relying on his power’s vs Luffy.

Do check out episode 131 on your own free time. It's is a wonderful episode that will forever live in my head cannon. I feel it captures the "down time" of the the straw hat crew adventuring and interacting perfectly. Particular the moments with Robin and Chopper
I agree! EP 131 never felt like filler to me and still doesn’t lmao I’m always up for spending more time with the crew, learning more about them and seeing how they develop amongst living with each other lol. It really adds to how close they are as the story progresses. The development of the straw hat bond, and the respect they have for each other over time has always been one of my favorite things about one piece!

Yes, Pell survived. To this day, I don't believe that we've ever gotten an official explanation, so here is mine:
Zoan Devil Fruit users are STUPIDLY tough, even by One Piece standards, where normal characters like Zoro and Ussop can take what would be fatal injuries, keep fighting, and recover. So that toughness, combined with Pell's falcon form, allowed him to 'ride' the wave of the shockwave. That same toughness turned what normally would be 'instantly obliterated' into 'one foot in the grave.'
But that's just my personal explanation.

Yeah the way I've heard it described is that Oda doesn't like to kill a character unless it's essential to the story that they die, and for villains in particular he thinks that leaving them alive to wallow in their failure is a fate worse than death anyway.
As for Pell, I feel that he should either have stayed dead, or his possible survival should have been more telegraphed for the audience. Maybe showing him get knocked away from the blast rather than implying he was vapourized. It feels kind of cheap to me that Oda really leaned into the sacrifice and made the audience feel it completely, just to undo it later.
It feels like that with Igaram too though. We don’t see how exactly he got away. We see a bunch of arms, but it is left vague if they dropped the explosives or served to pull him off the ship before blowing it up.
@@tranatkikomi6873 igaram’s survival is fine to me tbh, it’s clear that robin threw him off the ship before it exploded and why he wasn’t fatally injured when he arrived in alabasta and we know robin at this point was using crocodile and sabotaging his plans just like when after destroying igaram’s ship she offers the strawhats the eternal pose to alabasta , I do understand the criticisms of Pell surviving but igaram’s survival is fine in my opinion
@@tranatkikomi6873 just before the explosion we see a flurry of Robin's hands, and he "dies" off screen. Then we get a bunch of other clues where Robin lets someone live or quietly betrays Crocodile over the course of most of a saga to build distrust in whether she would actually have killed him. You could reasonably predict his survival, even.
Igaram didn't survive the explosion. He wasn't even caught in the explosion to begin with, because Robin was secretly working against Crocodile. That's a satisfying reveal.
With Pell it's just whoops that explosion wasn't fatal even though he was directly depicted being swallowed up by it, and just to drive the point home we did some sad flashbacks and also showed the falcon statue breaking just in case you were unsure about what's happening here.
I guess we didn't have to bother stopping the cannon shot at all? Someone in direct contact with the bomb itself was on his feet days later. His clothes were barely singed.
It's the one big black mark on Oda's writing, imo. In a class of its own compared to every other fakeout in the series.

The general rule is flashback = anyone can die, but present time = 99% of people survive, Pell is easily one of the worst examples of this, and probably the more memorable, everything about his death felt right and then Oda goes "btw not dead" for no reason

The lack of rain was due to Crocodile. Smoker is very strict with his ethics, he might let the Straw Hats escape, but he would never, NEVER break the law. Also, using the Dance Powder to make it rain once would not solve a 3-years lack of water. It was definitively Crocodile's presence and acting powers what kept Alabasta without water, and it's also the reason why it immediately started to rain in the entire country once he was defeated.
I love Luffy's nonchalant attitude in accepting a new crew member 😂. Luffy has many big moments coming up, so dont worry about that. Hes the goat for a reason

Saw the Alabasta arc for the first time a couple of years ago, now I'm rewatching it through you guys. The goodbye scene made me cry like a baby then too, so it's no surprise I wasn't spared this time either. Oda really is unbeatable in making arc-endig episodes.
I think it's clear Smoker was a factor in the rain, but it's possible Crocodile was holding it back with his own powers as a backup.

The choosing of fruits for you guys is a neat addition. Some people with devil fruits kind of make do with their new situation and abilities, but there are quite a few throughout the series that have fruits that are so suited for them personally that it almost seems like destiny. There are lots of theories, even a few in the story itself, about such things. When you listed all the canon fruits in the series so far (of course there will be others), and picked which would be right for you personally, it seemed very One Piece.
I've heard that Pell was originally supposed to meet his end at his most heroic moment, but Oda changed his mind afterwards. Multiple stories about what caused it, but there is a very strong majority of people that didn't prefer his return because of the reasons you both mentioned.
Robin was curious about Luffy's middle initial. Kureha mentioned the "Will of D. lives on" back on Drum Island. Traveling with a person like that and using them to escape the Navy and leave Alabasta might be the best choice for someone like her, who thought she was out of options and near death. Vivi described the ship as one that sees the light in all the darkness and sails for it...

Vivi´s goodbye is such a masterpiece! Of course, we all agree that narratively, Pell needed to stay in the grave not because we dislike it but because it feels forced. Let´s hope they do the best for the narrative in live-action like they did with Merry (Kaya´s butler).

This is common confusion fans made. The ship "rain maker" Smoker did aprehend is the resaon why Rainbase (Crocodile place) never get problems of dry weather. So, Crocodile did use "dance powder" to keep his base prosperous. Now, the fact that Crocodile passing out made start to rain is still nowdays fruit of several fan especulations and theories.
I think you did not watch some of the filler episodes in alabasta arc, thats why you did not recognize some of the characters that have been showed during the more like an end credit in episode 129, the man who throws something like a barrel to those bird thief, and the girl who pick up some random pink bag, I suggest you to watch some of the filler episode, so you will not miss any characters that has been introduce, like there is an episode in this arc which showcase more of Ace's character and some 4 idiot scammers who are posing as a part of the rebel army in certain town or village in alabasta, they are getting food and drinks from those villagers in exchange of keeping their town safe incase of any invasion from sand pirates, and it is connected to girl and a big man in 14:57 of your video. I think One Piece filler episodes are also worth to watch, thats just in my opinion. I started to watch one piece in my elementary days, 2004 and until today, and let me tell you this. Those were times when I as a fan of this show dont have any choice to skip any filler episodes, and I love those times, because I watched the whole series from episode 1 down to the latest, never skip filler episodes and until now, while im watching your reactions its like I'm missing those episodes coz you never do them a reaction video, when Im telling you that those episode are very worth to watch it is also worth giving them a nice a reaction video.
That’s why I feel a little disappointed (it’s their channel, their content so I won’t push) when people skip fillers. They keep somehow slipping the filler material into the canon and then there’s the “not canon to the manga but canon to Oda” things like what Usopp and Sanji did in Loguetown. I especially get sad when they skip Alabasta fillers because the stories help further humanise the people of the country like that girl who had at first lost faith in Vivi because she felt forgotten especially with there now being the country-wide drought crisis.

I hope they will try to watch it now to further solidify their pirate crew choosing, specially since they picked Vivi and Ace, I am telling you Carlie and Ange, Go watch it. If you think only canon episodes will make you sad, happy or even cry I am very surely you will also love, it will make you happy sad, or even cry from those filler episodes.
