A message from the Warp team: Quick update on a few features we just launched: Our Agent Mode now lets you pick your AI model, with Claude Sonnet as the default - it's been giving noticeably better responses! We've also added Active AI, which helps fix code errors and suggests your next steps based on what's happening. Both features really take the AI experience to the next level!
Bruh, there's enough telemetry in tech as it is. I don't need my damn terminal spying on me too. Not to mention all of the other troubling possibles that come with giving a close source AI that much control of your computer and personal files.
@@devopstoolboxI get the point of “people won’t care” but that doesn’t mean it isn’t bad. 90% of people in the internet don’t care much about their password leaks. I’ve met so many people just telling me their password in phone call when I was working as a telephone counselor. Most people don’t care if their passwords are encrypted in DB. But that doesn’t mean it is ok to not encrypt those.
- Closed source - AI slop - VC backed - Electron app, bloat - Does way more than I want my terminal to do (bloat) - Seems to have telemetry (I’m not sure) No thanks. Warp guys, stop wasting time in a slop non useful product and go build something that improves the life of people instead of this shit. Oh, and I’m not creating an account to use my terminal.
I do appreciate that warp let off a little bit with requiring an account and login, but it's unclear how long that's going to last, and what features they're going to lock behind that. That being said, warp was definitely among the smoothest and most user friendly terminal experiences I've ever used.
I'm a terminal geek head and ive used Warp for 2 years. I love it. Yes, ive moved to ghostty as there were issues with warp but seriously its a great terminal with lots of good features.
As a proud member of the 2% club, I really like what you did in this video. A tool aimed at noobs (well, relative noobs :), reviewed in expert-level detail. We don’t get enough of these. I was surprised at how much useful details I got from a tour of a tool I already knew (because I tried) is 100% not for me. Nice work!
Apart from all the obvious down sides, It's not very suitable for neovim users, dull colors, no cursor color change on different text colors I made a custom theme just to make the cursor visible for some extent but it's still not dynamic nor that good.
@@devopstoolbox It's their main sales point, their subscription model is based on AI use. Any company that succumbs to the AI fad as a "feature" is a flop that shouldn't be supported, IMHO.
This is going to be a no from me dog. I dont need or want my terminal to be a commercial product. Wezterm, Kitty, Ghostty, Iterm2, etc.etc. there are many other great options.

Hey! I've tried Warp too a while ago and pressing 'right arrow' should do the trick for the auto-completions, just like the 'zsh-autocompletions' module. Great video btw!
Honestly, tried it a while back and didn't like it. I guess it's okay for the normies but for their case, like you said, they don't really care about it enough.
- Nushell isn't supporting - AI - Closed source - Isn't mega customizable - A little slow - No windows support right now(Because I'm using windows and on wsl 2 its super slow and laggy) Is why I don't using it
Login no longer needed, until enough try it and then it will be needed again until they reach critical mass, and then the free tier will slowly be phased out. Closed source, rinse and repeat. Is that unfair when you have build a great product? I dont think so, but I dont like the model. Regardless of the product, I think the video was well done as always ;)
Thanks for the breakdown! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
No thanks. Ghostty is out and i won‘t be using anything else in the near future. And if i do, it will definitely not be warp. A closed source terminal, that first tried to let only logged in users use the terminal. Thank, but no, thanks
No it's not. I don't want to login to god damn terminal. Think of login to Neovim to edit file. Nonsense. (edit: I watched the video. login is not a requirement anymore)
@@devopstoolbox yes I did, taking a sponsor from a closed source terminal goes all the ethos of your channel, you sold your ethos for the bag... I hope the paycheck was big...

Closed-source, from ex-Google people, and with big capital investment. Everything one would want to be as far from as possible, in one package.
I get it! But that’s the point of the video :)
Bro is tryna get hes bread man let the man eat
@@Sub0x-x40 Who's the "bro" there?
I wonder why do you choose to publish this video on Ghostty release...
AHHAHAHHAHA EXACTLY
Not an ideal release date on my behalf (if anything)
Lol
Is Ghostty actually available for general use? Last I checked (not today) it was still in closed beta.
Yes it is now but you might have to compile it yourself

immediately lost interest after hearing it's "closed source". No features can justify that
Then the suckless Simple Terminal is terminal for you. It does one thing, (render characters in a matrix) and it does it well.

It's not Electron and it doesn't require an account anymore.

Alpha male? Come on, I'm at least a release candidate.
😂
Please explain, did they pay you for this video?
Eye-candy is good, but I'm happy with my wezterm + tmux (and yeah, I know wezterm technically doesn't need tmux, but I like it)
wezterm + tmux = the way
that has been my combo for a while now, testing ghostty for the next montt though
on the day that ghostty drops…. ads are getting smarter
Imagine creating an account to use a terminal emulator ...
Watch the video :)
It may have been asked already, but did you get a new keyboard? As I am also a ZSA user, the one in the video is different.
I’m testing the Dygma Defy! Didn’t replace (yet). The video is coming out soon
@@devopstoolbox i'm curious which switches you got with the Dygma and how you're liking them?

Not yet..
Thanks for share Wave with us, looks promising.

LOL I have one, it's called "windows terminal" (I am a monster).
Unironically the best terminal emulator on Windows. Also more of a 98% terminal considering it comes installed.
