    Dozers always impress me how versatile and useful they are...since I was a kid I always loved this kind of machines, and now the I"m an adult still loves them....Is one of the greatest inventions ever...Great video.

    Good job, 6 way blade would have been a better option then a fix blade. But in construction you work with what you got, thank for the video.

    I’ve done it both ways. Uphill, I prefer an excavator for rough in. Downhill, a dozer can be faster. Soils and weather conditions influence the outcomes. Note the moment where the dozer almost got into trouble (2:26) as the low edge collapsed and almost took the dozer with it. The skilled operator knew what was happening and reacted appropriately.

      @paulbuhler, It's about safety. I guess great minds do think alike as I prefer to upgrade with an excavator and downhill approach with a dozer.. Im 64 now with 38 years behind me, knock on my woody head I've never had any mishaps. Although we all have few close calls.

    It really depends on what the job is. I prefer excavator for most work however cutting in a road a dozer is much quicker.

    Every heavy equipment has specific purpose. bulldozer will be use in road opening projects, excavators is for excavation purposes like drainage systems and other related works. road grader is for final grading or leveling followed by road compactor for comoaction purposes.

    The Dozer advantage is every pass compacts the transported material.
    Excavator PLACES the material after it makes grade and compacts only the top 6" inches.

    This machine is an antique and limits the operators ability to construct a quality road. The "green in" road will not last long. A 6 way blade would have allowed inside ditching and a rough in from the inside out without having to make so many passes. Also angled
    water bars can be built with a modern dozer which this machine cannot do. I recognize the primitive conditions and do give kudos to the operator as others have acknowledged. He does make smooth work with his blade and doesn't overburden the machine by making too big of a cut. Overall a great job with what he has but the machine has limits.

    • @rossoxenbridge7495
      @rossoxenbridge7495 Год назад +1

      The job certainly would have been a lot quicker with a modern machine but I don't necessarily agree the machine is really limited in what it can do with especially with a experienced operator. Some of the work I have seen done with old experienced operators building roads in steep country on cat D7/D8 dozers back in the day with just plain angle and tilt blades and sometimes only cable blades as well would really surprise you. One of my former employers allways said everyone should learn the basics on D4 with just a straight blade and learn how to cut push and level out dirt. I basically started off on a D7E with a bull blade with power tilt on road construction I thought I was pretty good on that did I get a shock though when went on to another job building some sewerage treatment ponds with a d6b and a with manual angle and tilt blade that certainly was a big learning curve for cutting in the batters and getting the angles in the corners right its all about positioning the dozer to get the right cutting angle still to this day I have never forgotten those skills. It doesn't matter what blade I am using where it's a bull blade u blade manual angle and or pat blade I can adapt to it fairly quickly. Just few thoughts from a operator with 40,000hrs experience under my belt.

      I think you are a legend...
      It is very difficult for our operators to gain experience using modern heavy equipment, because small companies here always buy used (second) heavy equipment for work.

    A dozer is ok for spreading dirt, but an excavator with a push blade is the only way to go when actually cutting a mountain road. You have to move trees, boulders, and you cannot just push everything over the side. The trees are logs, the boulders are embankment reinforcements.
