I keep freshwater tanks only. I had no idea that saltwater could look like this. I like this way more than the blue light reef tanks. This is truly making me want to try this out some day.
@@apdroidgeek1737 I couldn't keep either of them lol. I think with saltwater you just gotta spend a lot of money to make it work, I tried to do it cheap with minimal equipment and I can't really keep much.
This is great, On the actual reef, macro algae can be as common as coral depending on the habitat. I really feel many reefers either forget, or never know what is it actually like out there. Some tanks look more like a Pixar movie than an actual ecosystem.
So so so proud that the reefing community has opened up to showing more of this macro niche ♥️ I feel incredible joy for Dennis that he is able to share his passion on your channel and that you took interest in what he does. Amazing video and I’m so glad macroalgae is finally taking off!! You guys are innovating and inspiring creators! ✨
Dennis has incredible tanks! I see macroalgae dominated tanks becoming ever more popular in the future. Also, wow! I saw that little shoutout! Thank you!
@@seafriendlyreef @Tigahboy I want to get into Macro algae for my green puffer (topaz puffer) tank. It's currently running at SG of 1.015 salinity. Which species do you think would do well? I have no issues with increasing the salinity at this point either. These algae are kind of hard to track down in the Netherlands. Any tips on getting some on the european market? Ps. Thanks for doing the write-up on the website!
I absolutely love his tanks and he hits the nail on the head when it comes to algae only tanks. Absolutely gorgeous, especially when you get different color macros together.
Very nice work Tobias! It's Travis owner of "WolfDaddysReef" thanks so much for featuring my tank. This is such an interesting slice of the hobby. Coming from the freshwater planted side, we would often mock the "blued-out" unnatural look of reef tanks. Most reef tanks are so formulaic and do not follow the aesthetics championed by people like Takashi Amano. Tanks like Tigahboy's are the reason I left freshwater. I can see freshwater aqascapers picking up macro tanks and doing so much with them, I even messaged Juris JS to try a salt water aquascape.
I started a pico macroalgae tank and like coral, algae can be just as addictive. If you want more, we just did a podcast with Dennis on the Reef News Network!
Well done on your tanks. I absolutely love macroalgae reef tanks. Some species are almost impossible to find but sometimes you get lucky from live rock!
Stunning! Made me want to give it a try for myself. I love aquascaped freshwater tanks - and this looks just as good 👍 and it's nice that you don't need to have a big tank with massively expensive and complicated equipment 🙂
Moin Tobi, auch mal was anderes, cool. durch deine Videos werden viele angesteckt zum Beispiel das floating Reef 👍 wie immer ein tolles Video, bleib gesund.
These are great aquariums. In fact in the most stunning reefs in the sea you have always macroalgae present. In order to have a natural looking and running tank there should be many kinds of creatures and algae. I always liked this kind of tanks. Me myself I'm running such kind of tanks, too...
Hi from the UK where macro algae is near on impossible to find. I have tangs in my 750lt display tank so I keep my small collection of macro algae in my sump with my 10+ year old clowns and their bubble tip nem and a few soft corals. this vid has got me thinking about setting up s second system again.
Absolutely stunningly gorgeous. I tried this in a larger scale but bubble algae decided to invade and proved more devastating than Thanos. I may try again on a smaller scale.
Regarding the LED light, imo it's inspired by Cinescraper. The guy uses yellow LED bar behind his tanks when shooting and it works magnificently on the overall color's temp and mood tone. It makes his vids not only unique but brings out the best color of his tanks. The same thing was applied here but you have to be more creative with reef tank because the color scheme is wild and psychedelic af!
I think saltwater light companies should take a hint from freshwater light companies - why are planted tank lights so much better looking than saltwater lights?? Come on guys, make more sleek modern lights for us salties!!
Thanks for this mate! I only have 2 planted tanks and most of the plants are epiphytes like java fern. That i could grow with plant growth light. Should be amazing to explore new things like saltwater planted tank
Awesome content yet again Toby. I don't suppose you know a good source for different Macro algae's in Germany do you? Since I moved here from England, I'm struggling to find a good source for them!
I have been thinking about doing this. I have a questions, with all the macro algae in the tank, does it act as a Refugium? Will i need less filtration?
Ich liebe die Aquarien von TigaboyH20 die Hintergrundbeleuchtung hab ich mir bei ihm angeschaut 😋 und mein ADA 60 p auch mit einer Süßwasser LED betrieben genau wie er .
Very nice , I think a mandarin and a heavy population of pods in those style tanks would be perfect together , the tank is basically a refugium , could that be my next build🤔

Awesome to hear that Addi! Thank you
I feel the same exact way. It's so beautiful 😍
This looks so much better than most saltwater tanks, idk why macroalgae isnt the norm in the hobby
More finicky than freshwater plants, I think I am planning on turning my failing macro tank into a planted tank.
macroalgae are really hard to take care of compared to corals.
and sometimes you cant have both, people who wanna keep saltwater are usually into vibrant corals not some plants.

I agree. I’ve got both corals and plants/ macro algae in my display tank. It’s a nice natural balance.
can sea anemone's be kept with macro algae and coral? All three in an aquarium would look beautiful.

I like the use of macro algae as a way of having a planted tank but in a saltwater version

such an interting tanks full of algae- but still look amazing and realxing to eyes. ❤️👍
Macro only. Coral only.
Cant they both exist in the display tank together with fish and inverts?
Great video. Thanx

I love saltwater ALGAE!!! Great video!
And another super cool video
In your IKEA kallax reef video I saw a tropic marin test kit what do you think of that dude.
Thank you!
yes but I have to say that normally I just send my analytics in so I do not test very often :D

Thank you so much, and yes that is a fantastic shaping style!

This is a great example of a tidepool and marine biotope set up. 👏🏻 low maintenance?
Wow, it's gorgeous. Just not easy to find different species of macroalgae. I only see 3 kinds regularly available.
Yes also here in Germany ;/ so hard to find!
Realy nice I've been thinking off doing this in a big section off my sump instead off just basic refugium 👍🏽

Interesting to see someone try something a bit different. I think it needs seahorses though.
