Cass Gilbert and “The Plan for New Haven”

Amongst the many public buildings designed by pioneer architect Cass Gilbert are New Haven’s Union Station and New Haven Free Public Library. But Gilbert was also an urban designer, evident in his plans for New Haven as well as for Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. This illustrated talk will explore Cass Gilbert's Plan for New Haven (1910) and how it related to his other urban design projects. It will also consider the opportunities New Haven now has to realize some of what Gilbert proposed.
The presentation is given by Thomas Fisher, a former New Haven resident and a professor and former dean at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
