    A few months back I picked up a new lens, the Voigtlander 28mm f2 Ultra and honestly I've been struggling to take it off of my camera. My Leica 35mm summilux has basically been sat unused since!
    In today's video I discuss why I've been loving this lens so much!

    I prefer your new format. Closer to real world shooting. I also have this lens (in silver/black) and shoot it primarily on the M11M. Not because I don't like its colour rendering but because for colour at 28mm I use the Q3. As for it being slightly soft at the edges wide open, it doesn't faze me as I usually shoot it at smaller apertures anyway. To be honest, I only shoot the Q3 at f1.7 or f2 when inside or at night anyway. Mostly I shoot it at f4 to f8.

    Great video. I am a big fan of voigtlander lenses. When I got my M11-P I got the summilux 50mm f1.4 ASPH II. But then fell in love with the 50 and 35mm APO Lanther from Voigtlander. Recently I got two more lenses, the 21mm f3.5 color skopar and the 75mm f1.5. These lenses are killers. As for the 28mm I considering to get the one you just reviewed, but the black version.

    Hey Goughie, I’m deciding btw 28mm Elmarit and Summicron (shooting M10M). What makes you lean towards Summicron this time around over Elmarit? Is subject separation visually more pronounced at f/2 vs f/2.8? As high iso of M11 is quite good, so f/2.8 should be enough in that regard. It’s mainly whether the size will get tiring compared to Elmarit… Thoughts? Cheers from Copenhagen, Mads

    Great format for your video. And a huge shoutout to the quality of your Voigtländer 28 mm lens. I decided on the 28 mm Elmarit from Leica, and it's just such a great versatile easy to shoot with lens and produces wonderful results. I use it a lot even if I try to also get more and more familiar with my 50 mm. I rarely want for anything other than the two, even though I also have a 35 mm Nokton and a 90 mm Elmarit

    Great format- thanks for this video which mirrors my experience with this lens. Bought it because I was not sure I would like 28mm. Because of its size and the fact mentioned that using the pre set cropping feature I am carrying a 35 mm and almost a 50mm. I am at that stage in my photographic journey that I am keen to carry the m11/28 combo as my EDC outfit to make sure I shoot images everyday to gain experience.

    Great new format -love it, but I can image it is much more effort and planning required to record, alone the weather dependence in UK :)
    I am actually in the market for a 28mm but am unsure which one I should pick. Currently basically scouting the used market for a good deal.
    Since you owned the Elmarit 28 2.8 - do you somehow still miss it in certain occasions compared to this Ultron?

    • @Goughie
      @Goughie  4 месяца назад +2

      Two things I miss about the Elmarit…
      1. The 6 bit coding! I get a fair amount of value having the data in lightroom!
      2. The sharpness of the exact lens I had was nuts, the sharpest lens I’ve ever used!
      Personally get more value out of 6 bit coding than I did the sharpness!
      The extra speed of the voigtlander is hard to overlook.
      Given the choice assuming price isn’t an issue… it’s a honestly really tough one! I think I’d be swayed back to the Elmarit, for its tiny compact size without the hood

    • @IntrovertAmateur
      @IntrovertAmateur 4 месяца назад

      @@Goughie thanks a lot for your response! Your Elmarit video is one of the few why I’m currently looking out for the Elmarit instead of going to the Ultron, because of the sharpness and the size, since I love small setups :)

    The Ultron has been glued to my camera too, since I realised that the extra cropability of 60 megapixel files meant I only needed to carry one lens to have both the wider 28mm perspective and my favoured 35mm field of view. Agree with everything you said about it. Ideal single lens option for the M11 - for me, at least.

    I have this lens and love it. Great performer, it does make you question why spend thousands more on a Leica lens. I also recently picked up the Thypoch 28mm 1.4 which is bigger of course but I love it so much that it's now glued to my M11.
    I popped in to a Leica store and tried the Summilux 28mm and honestly can't tell the difference from the two images I shot (one with the Summilux and one with the Thypoch). Third party manufacturers have basically closed the gap at this point which is great for us.

      @@Goughie Yeah, I had picked up the Voigtlander 1.5 Nokton originally but then preferred the bokeh of the Thypoch with the extra aperture blades so swapped over to it. I love it, it's a fantastic lens although not perfect handling (it's fine, just not perfect). Love the rendering wide open and character of it. The new collapsible 50mm from them also looks amazing but I must resist. They're killing it, I think the parent company might manufacture cine lenses which would explain a lot. :)
