Hey brothers, I'm the ex-singer of Attalus and the writer of this song. My wife just called me into the living room to show me your video and it moved me greatly to see. Been out of music for about seven years now, but this is yet another confirmation from the LORD that He works far beyond the finite reach of our hands, feet, and voices. I think often of that young boy who brought Jesus his loaves and fishes. That's all he had to give--his meal for the day. But it was his best, and Jesus used it to feed five thousand hungry souls! That's what all our best works of art boil down to in the end. Just loaves and fishes in the hands of a Mighty God! I'm overjoyed that even after all this time God is multiplying these songs in the lives of fellow brothers who are fighting the good fight and seeking to honor Christ in a corrupt generation. Blessings! Seth
Hello Seth, i've been searching for u for a very long time.... Your songs ARE deep and amazing!!! I feel the presence of God and the lyrics keep touching my soul in difererents ways, Into The Sea is my Favorite album after ALL these years, cause IS a such masterpiece and powerfull, i Just want to thank you, and I Hope u know how important your songs ARE for my. May God bless you and your family, i know god ARE taking care of you. Forgive me about my bad english IS not my native language, but i could not lose that opportunity to talk with u and say how i feel about your music!!
@@gabrielviana5661 Gabriel! I wrote a response a few days but it seems to have deleted! Thank you, brother, for your kind words of encouragement! The LORD knows I need them. Good news: I've currently recording a full-length concept album that has been on my heart for about three years. Putting out a single on February 10th along with a fundraiser. It won't be an Attalus endeavor, but it will be full band. Blessings in Christ!
This song has been such a blessing to me. I lost one of my favorite students of all time three months ago (I teach at a Christian school) and this song has been something that I’ve played repeatedly, praising Him for His blessed assurance and grace and reminding myself I will see all of my believing loved ones again. Thank you for letting God work through you!!
That was one of the first songs we wrote as a band and for about four years we played at as our closer for every show. Never forget one concert a day after I got in a serious wreck and flipped my van. God saved my life in miraculous fashion! The next night, when singing Message in a Bottle, I began to weep when I got to the line, "Of peace--that reached through the debris of that wreckage I call me," because it wasn't just allegorical anymore. I love it when God does things like that!
I'm recording a new album and just posted a brand new song! Not as hard-edged as Attalus, but still full band. Live cello as well, which is neat.ruclips.net/video/hsDoJ0HjriQ/видео.htmlsi=N7DsVyeBNpjFK5Mb
I liked your dad's reference to that scene in Saving Private Ryan. That hit deep. If we viewed life as a war that we're going to die in instead of just hoping for the best and worrying... yeah, we would have courage to live. There is a freedom in letting go, and power comes with it. Think that's what it means to pick up your cross and follow Him. 💜
Thank you! Just put up a brand new song after eight years if you're interested! Part of a concept album I'm working on called 'Kingdom Rising', exploring the paradox of divine Incarnation in the crevices of common life. ruclips.net/video/hsDoJ0HjriQ/видео.htmlsi=N7DsVyeBNpjFK5Mb
Brother, lead singer/pianist of Attalus here: I just put out a new concept album called 'Kingdom Rising' and there's a track on there called 'Altars' which your name made me think of. No big, electric guitars on this album--I went for an earthier, more unplugged rock and roll sound to accompany the lyrical concept, but I think you'll find elements of Attalus in songs like 'The Sower', 'In the Hearts of the Small," 'Altars', and "Paradise and a Paradox", for instance. Its on Spotify and Apple Music if you're interested. Blessings!
@@sethdaveysongs Hey brother! So great to hear new music from you! I'm really enjoying these songs and am excited to see what you come up with next. Thanks for letting me know!
Lucky day, I stumbled across a brand new video! I'm not familiar with Attalus, but I like this ballad. Here are some other tracks that I recently enjoyed: Bride's "Psychedelic Super Jesus," from 1992, is fast and intense, and has a similar flavor to the best material from Guns and Roses. Whiteheart's "Powerhouse" starts with a great riff, builds to some very impressive harmonics, and peaks with a very cool guitar break from Billy Smiley, who I always thought was an underrated guitar player. I was never a fan of Whiteheart - I can only think of three of their songs that I really like, but their best material was very good.
Joseph, thank you for the kind words! Death be Not Proud is the best song I wrote for Attalus, in my opinion. If you would, check out my next concept album called 'Kingdom Rising'. Although it isn't as heavy-hitting musically (I exchange electric guitars for cellos and violins), the song 'Kingdom Rising' is very reminiscent of Death be Not Proud. I think you'll appreciate the music. Blessings
This album is the best album of all time lyrically. If there was a musical equivalent of the Pilgrim's Progress in terms of allegory, these guys made it happen. Interestingly I made a couple of lyrics videos for their tracks on a separate account years ago (which is what you used). I used them for our school's Fellowship of Christian Students gatherings to teach, somewhat like your Dad did here. Made me appreciate the crazy amount of work it takes the experts to make them. They have fancier tools, better effects but just typing all the words, getting the timing right, etc. it's crazy. It took hours and hours and hours for each one . I always wanted to do the whole album but could never find the time.
Yes! I wish Attalus had stayed around longer. It's cool that you were the one that made this lyric video btw! I've made my fair share of lyric videos and they definitely take time.
I'm truly sorry that me and the Attalus boys weren't able to make more music together, Mark! God moves in mysterious ways though I don't regret the years that have come and gone since publishing Into the Sea. As Solomon wisely wrote, 'there's a season for everything', and I'm grateful we at least left 'something' behind to show for that seven-year season of music ministry. But thank you for taking the time to share the music and lyrics with others! God bless, Seth
Mark, have you listened to my recent concept album, 'Kingdom Rising'? It carries on lyrically from Into the Sea, but this time exploring the paradox of divine Incarnation through the parable of the mustard seed. I hope its a blessing.

"Where is the enemy, when death is on my side?" -DH
Love that line
One of my favorite DH lines
It's already been said, but this album is a masterpiece. Every song is fantastic, Message in a bottle is my favorite
Love your father's wisdom.
Absolutely! Message In A Bottle is a fantastic song btw, very underrated in my opinion.

Used to listen to Attalus on RadioUtv it was a Christian channel that played metal real late at night. 10 or 12 years ago.
Dude this is profound. Not even some worship bands write like this.
Yes, Attalus has some fantastic lyrics in their music!
