It's just a fun scenario to talk about. Also, sofas just ain't common in single-person households here. A large chunk of people still use a low table and sit on the floor. Though most people now have a regular desk for their computers and all you need for that is an office chair. Not much use for a sofa.
We have sofas in my family's house but we never offer it to visitors to sleep in. There should be a futon. This could be an Asian hospitality thing but sofas aren't meant to be slept on (by visitors).
