It was pretty surprissing to see Jason's mother being remembered again after so many years. The fact she cowardly betrayed him and yet Jason still tried to save her before they were killed by the Joker shows what a good boy the second Robin was. It was finally time to show the PTSD effects her involvement in his death left on him
Editors notes are why lore matters, with all the reboots and resets it can ruin stories, it’s better when it’s connected and we can draw on previous stories
Parallax is by far Hal's worst nightmare. Considering the unspeakable terrible things that entity forced him to do in the 90s, the PTSD left on Jordan must be pretty intense
10:45 Speaking of Trickster, his story with Mark Hamill is pretty crazy, actually. First, Hamill plays him in two episodes of the 90s Flash series, 10 years later he voices him in an episode of JLU (with a design similar to the actor's physique). Then the Arrowverse comes and Hamill plays Trickster in live-action again in three episodes, not to mention he later voices him again in two LEGO products, a "Justice League Action" short (in which Hamill also plays the Joker, Swamp Thing and himself) and a "Scooby-Doo and Guess Who" episode. What a story, Mark
hey Flash 1990 ain't forgotten. I remember it super well and it became part of the Arrowverse with that actual version of the Flash (again played by John Wesley Shipp who had been playing Henry Allen and then Jay Garrick in the Arrowverse) having a heroic ending in Crisis on Infinite Earths. But yeah Mark Hamill's Trickster in 1990 feels very much the prototype of his Joker. He even has a proto-Harley in Prank. :O
I don't like that they were making shows about Barry Allen at a point in time when Wally was the one singular Flash, it shows how deeply rooted DC's favouritism towards him is. But without Mark Hamill's Trickster we wouldn't have gotten Mark Hamill's Joker and I wouldn't want to live in that world.
The part with GL making a construct of the Cosmic Treadmill and Flash running on it was a cool concept. I wonder if that could actually work. As long as Hal and Berry are together they can time travel!
For Knight Terrors Green Lantern, I like that Hal’s nightmare involves him attending his dad’s funeral, him becoming the Silver Age Green Lantern, and everything else in his entire life. I like that Jeremy Adams uses this event to try to make Hal Jordan Green Lantern be interesting (just like his Flash Dark Crisis tie-in, which is the best Dark Crisis tie-in ever because it’s a family comic). Also, Sinestro wearing a black hoodie about to plan something to destroy and defeat Hal Jordan Green Lantern.
Insomnia as the name of a villain involving sleep is paradoxical. His name evokes a power that keeps people awake which would drive them insane. They could have gone with Hypnos
Love that you love the editor notes. Before digital media, which made things much easier to get hold of, the act of shopping for comics (and music) was, for me, adventures in crate digging. The mystery of what you might find and whether it was a piece of a bigger jigsaw you were pieceing together could turn a random, tattered issue of a run into a prize with extra emotional weight.
For Knight Terrors Robin, I like that Tim Drake’s and Jason Todd’s nightmare involves then trying to save their parents (specifically Tim’s dad and Jason’s mom). I wonder if we should see them team up more often. In my head canon, since Jason’s resurrection in 1988 (or 23 years before Dawn of DC) and his return to Gotham in 2002 (or 14 years before Dawn of DC), he would me Tim shortly after Batman: Hush in around 2003 (or 14 years before Dawn of DC). There, Jason would tell Tim that he knows about him thanks to Dick Grayson telling him everything what has happened since his death. Jason would not be mad or jealous of Tim because he’s impressed that Tim chose to be Bruce Wayne Batman’s partner because Batman needs a Robin. Jason would be proud of Tim for taking his mantle and for saving Bruce from his darkness and for saving Dick Grayson from his doubt. Eventually, Jason and Tim would get along and would try to become brothers (just like Dick became an older brother to Jason, Tim, Damian, and Cassandra Cain). Also, Tim making fun of his own series after seeing a boat.
Hadn't planned on following this until a fb posting showing Wesley Dodds, so it immediately became a "just take my money" moment. Not disappointed so far!
I've only just finished all of week one. The Joker one was awesome. I actually quite liked the Black Adam one. Although the art, while fine, gave me a feeling that the artist had never seen a picture of Adam and was just drawing him based on a character description. But the Cat was a really interesting character and I liked their dynamic. And the last page was a good cliffhanger. Shouldn't Hal's nightmare be him opening the door of the cockpit, only when he gets through to find himself in a seemingly endless void. With bars of soap all over the ground. And newspapers blowing towards him?
Idk if its cause comicstorian is so good but his rendition of the Green Lantern issue made me love that one the most. Plus, seeing how Hal's life is... Honestly very messed up... Its nice
Here's another place they could have gone with Jason: Filipe Garzonas. The abuser that drove his wife to suicide that Jason might have killed (whether through direct or indirect action) through a deadly fall back when he was still Robin. That could go a dark way, with Jason having to deal with the fact that Joker didn't make him who he was; he's always been a monster deep down. Joker was just a convenient excuse.
Hope the trip went well or is going well. It is cool when the Editor's Note is correct because when you go back to the issue mentioned it adds layers to the tapestry of the story.
For Knight Terrors Shazam, I like that Mary Marvel’s nightmare involves her losing her family and seeing Billy Batson Captain Marvel wearing a version of the Black Adam suit (which I would call him Black Marvel or Captain Batson). Also, the return of Zha-Vam, a Silver Age Superman villain who’s an homage of the original Captain Marvel. Also, Jerry Ordway variant cover of Mary Marvel fighting Billy Batson wearing Black Adam’s suit. It looks so Golden Age and Modern Age at the same time.
Really wondering if they're gonna reference the whole sandman thing, which is probably the most prominent modern day thing the dreamstone was involved in, especially cause insomnia's power set kinda makes him seem like a dream nexus?
Should have taken Jason to a place of abandonment..his mother abandoned him..he died and the bat family moved on..he came back but Bruce did not agree with his new views and rejected him, he has had a real love/hate relationship with the batfamily since whith repeated times of near bonding then pushback..he had a thing with Babs and left her a note that he would seek help to change if she only stood by him but stupid wind messed that up so he thought she ignored him..Jason is soooooo LONLEY! He feels so constantly on his own surrounded by misfits who function as a family but not quite to him..hes been through so much rejection and heartbreak, just trying to find his way and cope with things no one else alive could truely relate to and often stigmatized for it! How do you show empathy for someone like that? He is on an angry, confused rampage because he VIOLENTLY DIED and came back learning it didn't even seem to matter. Yes, his actions are inexcusable..but that's based on a cultural standard that never would account for someone going through something like this. The fact he died is a big part of his current characterization so you can't ignore it but instead they should focus on the state it's left him in over the event itself. He is in a weird limbo of self grief. He can't fully move on because he came back after the entire world already did. How does one reinsert themselves? Does Jason have a true fear of death now that he is already died..or perhaps a fear that he will die and just come back to something even worse AGAIN?! Perhaps Jason has a fear of never finding peace. A fear no matter what, he will be forced to suffer his life forever. There are SO many better avenues they could have traveled that stem off from his death. Especially for a character like Jason that tries to internalize a lit, this could dive into layers to expose things we didn't know baout Jim internally..
YES i was looking forward to this video!! the second i saw that “reverting to childhood” imagery of tim huddling w plushies of the bat family while the Big Scary Monster tries to bang down the door, i just had to know your thoughts! the whole “healing your inner child trope” with rose and tim is such interesting grounds to explore trauma, been enjoying seeing it so far. but the thing that finally convinced me to get into knight terrors was actually the flash issue! i actually thought it was joshua williamson that wrote that issue too seeing as how barry’s explanation of his perspective echoed the one in rebirth. i love getting to read barry’s thought process, he’s always struggled with perspective and reality as a speedster, so seeing him navigate those things in a nightmare is even more fascinating!
I have a theory that the Sleepless Knights are just the people's nightmare selves. So all the people who are affected by Insomnia have a evil version of themselves projected into the real world.
For Knight Terrors Flash, I like that Barry’s nightmare involves him losing his family to tragedy (just like he lost his wife to the Reverse Flash in 1979 and being brainwashed by Psycho Pirate and Pariah in Infinite Frontier in 2021). Also, referencing an issue of JSA: Classified and the Final Night and seeing Barry’s original suit (which looks cool and looks better than the post-Flashpoint suit).
Mary Marvel had a truly horrible nightmare, but what Insomnia did to her was NOTHING compared to the humiliationthe character suffered when the writers turned her into a villain TWO times during the infamous "Countdown" events in the most forced way possible. Seriously, that panel showing her having an org*smic face whike holding a magic item is the pure definition of CURSED
For Knight Terrors Zatanna, I like that Zatanna had to recruit Cliff Steele Robotman as a champion to defeat the forces of darkness. It’s ridiculous and over the top! Also, her nightmare being the death of her father (who died in the first Crisis in 1985).
I found it interesting that the Zatanna issue basically doubles as the Doom Patrol's tie-in, since their current series isn't getting one. I realise now that the previous week's Ravager issue, which seemed out of nowhere to me, is actually following up on the Stormwatch story in Brave and the Bold, another series that's sitting out Knight Terrors. I'm still not sure what's going on with Punchline and Angel Breaker, though. There are rumours that Zatanna/Robotman ("Hex and Violence") could get their own series. I don't really care about Zatanna, but it'd be nice to get follow-up for Unstoppable Doom Patrol once it ends.
I do not think Hal could ever be afraid of the Guardians Afraid of them committing their 8th genocide this month, yes, but he's told those little smurfs where to shove it more than enough to know they're all bark and no bite.
For Knight Terrors 1, I like that Deadman is narrating to us his backstory and what is happening in this event. Also, since Innsomnia is an inmate at Arkham Tower who has powers because of Lazarus Planet, I wonder if he’s Triumph based on the clues and mysteries surrounding his origin and backstory. Also, the return and resurrection of Wesley Dodds, the Golden Age Sandman. The missed opportunity should’ve have Sandy Hawkins or Daniel Hall Dream. Also, variant comics where there’s an homage of a World’s Finest issue where Clark Kent Superman and Bruce Wayne Batman are forced to dig their own graves.
I used to love comics but gave up on them a few years ago, mainly because of messed-up storylines & characters. You inspire me to read them again - thank you!
Yay, Sasha's back, I hope you enjoyed your trip. This has definitely been a mixed bag, but I am genuinely enjoying some of these tie-ins. Some writers are definitely grasping the concept better than others but I'm still not convinced this needed to be a two month long 'event' with a million tie-ins that interrupt other storylines (yet some series are still going business as usual, and a few new series have even started). I look forward to hearing your thoughts on week three.
They seem to be planning to make Sandman/Dream a larger part of the event later on. But I hope they don't have him doing too much, since I still like seeing that part of the DC Universe away from the capes. Just a cameo after the heroes beat the Corinthian (they seem to be setting him up) could be cool, maybe some pep talk to a hero or two would be fine, but I hope it does not come to Superman and Dream doing a double punch on a villain.
I'll definitely be picking up the Zatanna one when payday rolls around. I love Zatanna and the art looks great. I'm curious to see what else is coming with this event, and hope something else jumps out at me
Last video on this, I said that it seemed like only the Batman titles stood out to me in the "Knight Terrors" event. While I still believe that this should have been a Batman centered storyline, there are some tie ins unrelated to the bat family that were interesting judging by the premise. The one Mary Marvel had was great. Her nightmare where dream logic is used is very relatable and surreal.
1:45 "It's gonna claim that it took a while to pinpoint Hal's fear because, remember, there was a period where Hal was known as "The Man Without Fear" and there was a period back in the Bronze Age where he legitimately felt no fear and then they stopped that because that's an actual condition." That and I suspect more people associate "Man Without Fear" with Daredevil than with Green Lantern.
I'm only following this series through your videos so I appreciate you doing this weekly (or however considering your trip) but honestly I just love your excitement over the correct editor notes 😂
If you already spoke a command as part of casting a spell, 'repeat casting' with your Subscribe feature uses the same command you originally spoke; you cannot change the given command.
You know the window thing could be interesting for a Jason Nightmare, like the idea that if he hadn’t done that, then maybe the sequence of events leading up to his death might not have happened, and that thought that it was “his fault.”
Grateful for these videos so I can catch up on what happened in the books I’m not reading! Aside from the main Knight Terrors book I’m following the Batman, Robin, and Nightwing tie ins so far, and plan to pick up Titans. I thought Robin was the best of the ones I’ve read so far, but only the Tim half of it. I’m really not surprised that Jason’s writing disappointed me, I’m a big fan of the character but his writing always does... I think the bulk of the effort was put into Tim’s story here, but that’s okay. Coming off of the end of Tim’s series last month I’ve been more interested in the character than I used to be.
I just wanna point out the evil robin from Tim's half of the issue Man someone on the artistic team was a fan of the legacy of kaine soul reaver series cause that evil robin is just raziel from those games even has the scarf over the mouth thing and everything
Only read the Green Lantern and Shazam! issues myself as a fan of Hal and Mary. The ending of Knight Terrors: Shazam! was haunting and had such good art throughout.
Jason's nightmare could have: his life in the street, Deacon Blackfire and Batman in the corpses pile, the lost of the All Caste and the Outlaws, the lost of the batfamily -no by death-, etc. But, nooo. They have to go with the crowbar.
Honestly, the idea that you Deadman just resurects OG Sandman, with full costume no less, just to deal with some rando is really funny. People love talking about Arkham being revolving, but really Heaven and Hell either have bunch of copies or just rent house.
This may be my love of Flash speaking, but the Flash Night Terrors was definitely my fave. I loved how everything was kinda yelling at Barry “this is a dream!!!” from the opening monologue to the messed up eras, but Barry, like most when in a dream, just can’t grip the logic and realize it’s all wrong. I especially loved the dialogue with Grodd and how he was essentially Barry’s subconscious being “this is a dream you idiot!” Also, I found Hal’s nightmare quite boring, but Sinestro’s interesting enough that I was thinking to myself “if he gets his own series, I’ll check it out.” I’ve never found Hal, and by extension Sinestro, particularly interesting, so for that to have gotten me interested in reading more is saying something. (Oh, and Constantine isn’t with JLD because he’s off helping Xanthe in probably my favorite new series since I subscribed to DC Infinite)
I feel like the message this series is trying to get at is: spending all night kicking people in the face is not adequate therapy for dealing with the death of your parent(s).
I’m kinda enjoying it. Some comics in the series more than others. I rolled my eyes at the bat gun creature. And the Robins comic just showed me again why I’m not a fan of Jason Todd. I thought Zatanna looked a little strange. Every panel her eyes always seemed to be bulging and looking off to the right.
I didn’t love green lantern’s issue. Adams has said in interviews that he thinks Hal is fearless which is so boring LOL esp since in the past he’s been afraid of losing his loved ones, becoming parallax again, and he has abandonment issues. i wish Adams had played with those. and I wish the comic played up the dream aspect more. i loved his first 2 green lantern issues tho! off topic but i met him randomly in a comic book store and he's very very nice! The flash knight terror was my favorite and not just because of the halbarry win. I thought it was creepy and highlighted some of my favorite aspects of Barry’s character - his detective work, his devotion to his family, and his patience. I only read the flash and green lantern issues but I’ll have to check out robin! I miss 90s Tim Drake.
I just find it odd they paused Dawn of DC to do this event.. adding on a new thing to the new thing which already had a new thing.. they should have let Dawn play out before starting this event.
This is my first event, I'm only buying the mainline and Zatanna. Happy so far, though didn't find Knight Terror #2 as interesting and the others. Deadman is my favorite part.
Ugg i am buying them all like i always do with events. but the events are going to sync everything in DC so i like that. really the event did not interrupt much since you know... Williamson is writing most of the titles. my favorite so far was likely Catwomans.
Still kinda miffed they went for "Knight Terrors" for a title...well maybe the Shining Knight and the Atomic Knights will be the key to saving the day.
*Hal Jordan: Knight Terrors...* "I had the most terrifying dream - I was being chased by these crazy mushrooms, and then I was attacked by a giant bar of soap that was selling knock-off power rings out of a suitcase!"
Favourite of this bunch?
Oxidation! ..... no wait.... The Rust Bringer!
@jonasuriel7936 he who decreases the structural integrity of your metal!
I'd have to go with Shazam
@@invisiblenutmeg Seems this fiend goes by many clever names 🤔
It's probably Zatanna or Shazam for me.
I loved when Sir Morbid said… “it’s Morbid’ time” lol

Yeah even though technically it's in Jun since I guess there's Christmas in july
Loved that cartoon!😂

This is a pleasant surprise. Night terrors is a good series, but they need to be put in some kind of order. I hope you enjoyed your vacation!
Put it in order? You’re asking to much from DC.😊
The part with GL making a construct of the Cosmic Treadmill and Flash running on it was a cool concept. I wonder if that could actually work. As long as Hal and Berry are together they can time travel!
Theoretically if Hal understood how it worked
@@strifenineteen yea good point, Hal would have to know how it worked.

This is definitely a sneaky Deadman event.
That's how it goes: you give managment concept of event, just to avoid hustle with doing mini series.

Casually Comics uploads, its a good day.
1:45 "It's gonna claim that it took a while to pinpoint Hal's fear because, remember, there was a period where Hal was known as "The Man Without Fear" and there was a period back in the Bronze Age where he legitimately felt no fear and then they stopped that because that's an actual condition."
That and I suspect more people associate "Man Without Fear" with Daredevil than with Green Lantern.
I'm only following this series through your videos so I appreciate you doing this weekly (or however considering your trip) but honestly I just love your excitement over the correct editor notes 😂
Yesss so glad you covered week 2!! :))
I'm with you on "Season" being weird. Reminds me of a friend in high school who referred to issues as "episodes."
I just can’t believe that Angel Breaker is getting a tie in.
Good to hear about the editor's notes!
2:25 I'd say those skeletons are more Zdzislaw Beksinski than HR Giger, but damn, I love the look regardless.
Do the comic book history of the white Canary and how she is different from the arrowverse
Yesss do week 3 I don’t want to pay for this event lol
I just wanna point out the evil robin from Tim's half of the issue
Man someone on the artistic team was a fan of the legacy of kaine soul reaver series cause that evil robin is just raziel from those games even has the scarf over the mouth thing and everything
It felt so familiar but I could not put my finger on it! Thank you 🙏
Only read the Green Lantern and Shazam! issues myself as a fan of Hal and Mary.
Sasha is back with comics and that all that matters 👍
I agree I'm so tired of everything being an event can we just have storylines again... lol
The checklist is the propper order of the stories.
That Mary Marvel one sounds ROUGH, but in a good way. Watching all your siblings burned alive by lightning? Jesus.
As a huge Deadman fan I am really enjoying this "event". Add in Zatanna and I am hooked.
I especially loved the dialogue with Grodd and how he was essentially Barry’s subconscious being “this is a dream you idiot!”
Also, I found Hal’s nightmare quite boring, but Sinestro’s interesting enough that I was thinking to myself “if he gets his own series, I’ll check it out.” I’ve never found Hal, and by extension Sinestro, particularly interesting, so for that to have gotten me interested in reading more is saying something.
(Oh, and Constantine isn’t with JLD because he’s off helping Xanthe in probably my favorite new series since I subscribed to DC Infinite)
I'm quite enjoying this series as a whole.
oh my god you're right the gunheaded bat does look like the bat devil from chainsaw man- How did I not notice that earlier.
That Deadman opening is very Twighlight Zone to me. I like that (even if it wasn't intentional)
I feel like the message this series is trying to get at is: spending all night kicking people in the face is not adequate therapy for dealing with the death of your parent(s).
The absolute SALT about the Diplomat's Son lolllll
“hey little momma let me whisper in your ear.” “SHAZAM!”
Wally West: Is at the brink of death
Fans: "Ah, sh*t. Here we go again..."
They could have gone to tentacle Jason because it's so quick.
Finally, a small hal-barry moment, yay (this is a comment using reverse psychology to motivate Sasha to make a video about them lol)
Week 3, please ❤
Missing your reviews of these now!
Trust me...a nightmare within a nightmare is not cool.
Rustbringer vs Girder
Haven't read any of them yet. I couldn't pass up this video. So, as much as I DON'T like spoilers I'm here anyway.
Is it explained why Dream isn't getting involved yet? I feel like this entire event would be like a 5 minute fix for him if he was taking his time.
Can you do a cover review for all Knight Terror books in week 3 next time?
Hal's greatest fear should be a bar of soap that he constantly slips on. Missed opportunity.
This is my first event, I'm only buying the mainline and Zatanna. Happy so far, though didn't find Knight Terror #2 as interesting and the others. Deadman is my favorite part.
Hopefully the Punchline issue will be next video
Ugg i am buying them all like i always do with events. but the events are going to sync everything in DC so i like that. really the event did not interrupt much since you know... Williamson is writing most of the titles. my favorite so far was likely Catwomans.
So is DC bringing back Wesley's Sandman as a series or is he just making an appearance and the *poof* ?
He's getting a mini in the fall, but it's pre-WWII.
Still kinda miffed they went for "Knight Terrors" for a title...well maybe the Shining Knight and the Atomic Knights will be the key to saving the day.
Wait, "Nightmare Stone" is this a secret Sandman crossover?
The Flash issue feels like it's gonna copy the movie and Barry will be the monster in the Speed Force.
You deserve a Vay-Kay after all that! Have/Had Fun! 🖖♾
*Hal Jordan: Knight Terrors...* "I had the most terrifying dream - I was being chased by these crazy mushrooms, and then I was attacked by a giant bar of soap that was selling knock-off power rings out of a suitcase!"
Hal Jordan shouldn’t have nightmares. He should sleep perfectly
Meghan Fitzmartin should be the cause of Tim’s nightmare, as she is to those of us who became fans when he was written by Chuck Dixon 🖖🏾
"Put them in the iron maiden."
"Excellent!"
"Execute them!"
"Bogus."
