I don't know much about these bikes but I recently bought one and mine came with Ohlins suspension. It rides great and takes a beating and so far its an awesome bike.
Yes the Tazer MX with the coil shock is awesome!! Then again I always like the feel of coil over air. I was really surprised how good the DVO E3 forks feel for a budget fork.
Returned the Tazer Pro edition (size large) after 3 rides. My thoughts... Cons: Felt no difference between trail and boost modes, lots of lag even in the off mode, rear suspension bucked me on some small fast drops(throw a coil on it), magnet not integrated within the rotor(tech already exists!), annoying power switch, wanted MOAR battery(redesign the downtube with the e8036). Pros: Geometry felt perfect, stock rear fender/protection, confidence in the corners, super fun factor and light, EP8 IS efficient (longest ride was 27mi/6k elevation gain in eco mode), decent water bottle space, pricing is good with the components offered and would pay even more if offered with a coil. Great show guys, loving all the details within your reviews!
Wow, that chatter towards the end of the video is loud. Thanks for taking the time to review all the EMTBs and thanks for all the love you guys are giving EMTB. Its amazing technology and the next step in the evolution of biking. I am just not sure why all the hate.
Thanks very much for watching and we appreciate you supporting the channel and our website. It is definitely the next evolution. We're excited to see where they go.
Wish you guys would have tested the MX build with the Ohlins DH38 front fork dual crown and Ohlins TTX22M coil mid shock. Probably would have taken care of that bottoming out issue you were having with the Fox pro setup. Still, great review, appreciate all you guys do!
I’m on a 2020 Tazer MX Expert and this model is equipped with the DVO coil over (155) in the rear and DVOs Diamond E3 (160) front fork. I purchased a heavier spring for the rear shock at time of purchase to accommodate for my weight (208lbs) and run 197 psi in the shock. I did have 2 warranty calls on the bike however, Intense puts Aluminum front, rear shock mounting bolts on these bikes, something I don’t fully understand when the bike already weighs in at just over 50 lbs. First instance was a case on a gap jump, one of the two front mounting bolts snapped on landing! This in turn caused the DVO coil shock to come out of alignment resulting in the rear shock shaft being destroyed. Hats off to Intense and DVO for being awesome in dealing with this! Same thing happened a second time when I landed on the flat of a tabletop however the rear shock was un-damaged this time🙏🏼. Again, Intense was very helpful in getting me back on the bike. This time they sent me steel mounting bolts vs aluminum. So hopefully she holds together when I miss calculate a big jump. All in all I love the bike and to me, the faster I run this bike down a track the better it performs!! I live in Boise ID so that should give you an idea of the terrain I usually ride. I really do think this chassis benefits by utilizing a coil-over rear shock design. Cheers!
@@ba6465 Great write up man, I'm getting a Pro model this week, when it arrives I''ll make sure to address everything you mentioned. I already have to swap the brake cables (left and right are setup moto style (left rear right front) and put in a heavier spring for my weight so I'll have them go through the rest of the stuff you mentioned.
I have this bike and had the same issue. At 180-185 ish with gear I had the shock psi set up for a 250lb rider and still couldn't maintain the suggested 30% sag. I believe this is due to the added weight of the eMTB and the geometry of the suspension as I feel there is more levrage on the shock than with other designs. Now not all is negative here the entire problem was easily and inexpensively rectified by simply adding a volume spacer to the shock. Intense includes an entire goodie box of tools and accessories with their bikes (or at least the Tazer's) which include a nice torque wrench, shock pump, tubleless conversion kit (with sealant and stems) and a tri wrench. I would happily have given up any one of those items for them to include a volume spacer kit which I think cost $20-25 shipped from Amazon. Otherwise I love the bike and have done very little to it in the way of mods or upgrades unlike my other bikes. As for the battery and power, I think there are better bikes for sure however the purpose of this bike for me was to self shuttle and not so much for XC or Enduro type riding. The Tazer was by far the most "Downhill" capable feeling bike of the ones I tried prior to purchasing. To be fair I didnt try the Kenevo but it is so out of my price range it wouldnt have mattered anyway.
I have 3 of these bikes..well actually the two mx versions on pro..the fix is get rid of the silly air shock..the coil overs are soo good..even the mx expert out handles the pro with the air can..
So I wasn't even considering an E-Bike until I heard about this bike. I have owned several intense tazers. Also own an M6 and M9. Watching a lot of reviews and comparisons. I don't think it looks bad at all. Just like they shrink wrapped the frame around the battery. and people want a bigger one still. only 100 watt less? I see the levo are only 300 watts. thats 200 less but they are the most popular bike where I am. Maybe they didn't want to go bigger and less performance. to keep the weight down a bit. on the rear, maybe it feels like less traction if they are comparing it to full 29 bikes? I'm used to riding whatever I got so I can make anything work for me. I actually love "mullet bikes" as you got better acceleration and better rotation down tight switch-backs ect. loose rear ends more fun to me. Used to ride a BigHit with a 24 rear so I'm used to that. And if I ever have issues running out of battery I'd just buy a spare battery. One comment I saw about not feeling any difference between trail and boost. Maybe it isn't setup on the app right? I didn't hear anything like this on any EP8 reviews. My head is saying get the Canyon Torque:On. But my heart says get the Tazer Pro.
I have the Tazer expert and I love the bike. Super snappy and playful for an ebike and for the most part, it shreds harder then my sentinel. With that said I do live in the PNW which is loamy, steep, tight, and overall way smoother than Utah.
Would LOVE to see you guys test the Scott Genius Eride. Looks amazing and definitely in my short list for a future purchase. Keep up the awesome work!!!
so would you say this is a better bike for the more flow trail type stuff and not the tech? i have a tracer and i absolutely love it and the things a monster sad to see it dosent seem to translate to this
Yeah we'd say that would be where it excels for sure. It's a great handling bike in the corners and fun to slash around on. Just the suspension on extended rough sections holding it back.
I have a new Intense Primer 27.5 and I love it. That said, I think the Tazer is one of the ugliest ebikes on the market and the small battery for that price also sucks. That downtube is atrocious. Intense really needs to go back to the drawing board with this one. Till then I'll be riding my Decoy.
How's the plushness of your VPP vs the Decoy's linkage? I have a Tracer and love the bottomless plush ride. I'm hoping to get that on an ebike too. I agree, the Tazer is quite frecking ugly
Interesting how it didn't fair well in your reviews. I do hear mixed reviews other places too. I'm hoping others can chime in... 1) Comparison of this to a non-ebike VPP frame, SC, Intense 2) Comparison with the coil shock, aka, Tazer MX I've had many Intense bikes over the years and they've all been very plush, especially after the switch to VPP. I have a Tracer with the true VPP before Steber changed it to his version. It has that classic VPP plushness that the VPP design is known for and exactly the opposite description of your team's experience. VPP usually shines in small bump/square bump compliance. While a coil would help it can't necessarily turn a poor responding suspension linkage platform into a good one. That's why I'd like to hear from folks who have experience on a true VPP bike vs this Tazer ebike's version of VPP. As for value, the MX Pro seems like a good value vs other extremely high priced ebikes comparably equipped like the SC Bullit at $10k. For $7500 you get top name Ohlins front and rear, a carbon frame, XT brakes and drivetrain, Fox Transfer post, and an EP8 motor. Not in its favor is a low 504w battery and well, its really ugly pregnant downtube. That I must say looks like a not a very well thought out design. In today's market of sleek, flowing frames and integrated lines a marketing factor, sadly Intense came dead last in this aspect. I agree; its downright ugly. The SC Bullit seems nice and closer to the original VPP kinematics, however, I'm not about to shell out $10k for a coil build !!!!! So, the MX Pro may be for me IF IF IF it is really more like true VPP fame. I'll overlook that small battery and pregnant downtube for now...
Really enjoying this series so far.Looking forward to the results.🤟
Thanks very much Ian. Glad to hear it and stoked to get the grand finale out there.
I don't know much about these bikes but I recently bought one and mine came with Ohlins suspension. It rides great and takes a beating and so far its an awesome bike.

Thanks for your input and sharing. Sorry to hear you didn’t get along with your bike. Sounds like you had some similar critiques.
They offer a coil on the Mx version?

(In)famous intense misaligned rear triangle?

Great suggestion and thank you very much for watching and sharing... A coil shock probably would help this bike out quite a bit.
Yeah that's what I want to see too. Coil is thee way to go

I have ridden a couple Tazer bikes and I thought they were great, its possible the shock on this bike may have been defective
That's what I'm wondering. Cause I know several people who have this bike and say its the best bike they've ever owned.

Suspension gurus rarely shred hard.
They find things to complain about.
I call them inspector Gadget riders

I have the DVO withJade Coil, and rear traction and support is insanely good. Wonder if a coil on the Pro would help fix it's suspension flaws.

What did you end up getting brother
I have the Tazer expert and I love the bike. Super snappy and playful for an ebike and for the most part, it shreds harder then my sentinel. With that said I do live in the PNW which is loamy, steep, tight, and overall way smoother than Utah.
Thanks for sharing Stephen and we're happy to hear you are enjoying your bike!
Have you ridden something with VPP on a non-ebike for comparison? Just wondering
Why put a fox 38 matched up with a dpx?? Makes no sense
Put the 2.8 tyre back on and run a low PSI.....problem fixed, the 35mm rear rim doesn't like 2.4 tyres at all.
Just wondering if you guys are gonna test the Scott genius eride or the ransom! Thanks for the reviews🙏🏻
We'd love to but we've not been able to get Scott to reply to our emails or requests for a test. Hopefully soon.
Would LOVE to see you guys test the Scott Genius Eride. Looks amazing and definitely in my short list for a future purchase. Keep up the awesome work!!!
Can you please put metric info on the screen? 50.4lb doesn't mean anything to 90% of the world population but 22.8kg does.
🦅

Maybe a coil works better on that terrain? I don’t know one of you guy complain about bottom out and other is too harsh ... ?
I just can't get over the bloated/pregnant downtube... And only a 504wh battery?! C'mon Intense!!

504wh for 8k😂
