He matured so quickly, and then the moment he reached full compositional maturity he switched again. Truly an amazing composer.

I head this on BBC Radio 3 this morning for the first time. He was so ahead of his tme.
As Edgard Varese said 'The present day composer refuses to die!'

If you compare this extraordinary early work with the even earlier symphony it's really amazing how quickly he matured from a routine beginner to a sophisticated master. It's almost a miracle -- and of course it led directly to Firebird.

Thanks for sharing, I've been looking for this for a while.
Almost unbelievable that this is an opus 3. Stravinsky was not a prodigy like Mozart but he developed his craftsmanship very quickly

Wonderful recording. Loved hearing the influence of Mendelssohn and Wagner.

Studies have shown that chocolate icecream is *usually* better than vanilla and that mature Stravinsky is an equal match for any Mozart up to around 1781.
    So there you have it.

    Absurd comparison. Two different worlds.

I have the vinyl recording of this, somewhere in my collection and the cover says N.Y. Phil . Of course, I can't find it now.

One of my favorite tunes. Could you check the name of the orchestra ? I think this is the New York Philharmonic playing, not the Cleveland O. Thanks for posting.

That is Cleveland. NY Phil does not have that clarity of sound in the woodwinds or brass. The string sound is definitely Cleveland!

Your'e right, it is so very clear sounding! Not that I am knowledgeable enough to have identified the difference between the two orchestras myself, but I hear the beautiful clarity that you mention and it makes this piece so wonderful here!

Se notan muchisimo sus influencias Wagnerianas en estas primeras obras!

I dont see any way in which one can compare those 2...

Bad example. You must compare the two composers to their respective period. If the one is for 8/10 in his period and the other is for 7/10 in his own, then the first one is better. Of course ranking is relative, but if we agree that this is the ranking, then the first one is better composer, respective to his/her genre.
