    What varieties are commonly used for the rootstock?

      Rough lemon is compatible with just about everything, so is used by the CCPP for propagating varieties internally. Several citrange varieties are favored because of the disease resistance they contribute, as is Swingle citrumelo. If you want to grow citrus in a really cold climate, you need trifoliate orange. Cleopatra mandarin is favored if you have to grow in calcareous soil. And Seville orange is good if you need drought tolerance. Of those, trifoliate oranges, citranges, and citrumelos will grow leaves in clusters, while all the others will grow single leaves like normal citrus.
