Anton Gauna Not to be hating on you, but they were saying that what he did was totally new. Grafting has been a practice for quite some time now. Only now has a single tree been able to produce 40 fruit.
I have been learning to Bonsai & Graft this past week. I started looking in to this because I want so many types of plants in my yard but not enough room so this pretty much helps with the space saving. (Just turned 24 and bought my first home so I have begun my dream garden)
This may not be new, how ever, to take this idea and use it in the modern world is worth sharing. How many other ideas have been born through this Mother of invention and keeping these old plumbs going. Well done Sam. How wonderful the blossom must look.
THIS guy is a genius!! Funny thing is t I always wanted to do what he did...………. if I had the means. I am ecstatic that somebody actually did it!! Beautiful!!
I didn't know people here didn't know this😕.. Back in my country Nepal, we did this all the time.. We did it with flowers too.. Different kinds of roses in one looks really pretty..❤️👌🏼
Grafting isn't a new idea but I really like the artistic value of it all. The tree is very pretty. You can use grafting in order to cross pollinate since you have more than one variety on the same tree.
0:26 everything about this project is fascinating and the professor who developed this magic idea is a Great person and a masterful credit to horticultural successes. Thank you for sharing the results
Very cool to see root-stock take on so many grafts. Would be awesome to see an update on these grafted specimens. Home Depot currently has rolled out their bare-root plants with varying types of berries as well as fruit trees with three to four cultivars grafted on one. I went ahead a picked up a grafted apple and a grafted pear tree.
I love when he's asked, "How long does it take to graft?" And he has NO idea, so he puts on his serious news face and goes, "2-3 years". Dude, stick grafting can take hold in as little as 2 weeks and bud grafting takes no more than 8 months.
You're correct, but he mentioned the "grafting process", and the artist behind the tree has mentioned that he does them in grafting batches every 2-3 years, so he's not totally off the mark.
Sorry, but nothing new here. In my family, growers in Southern California were doing this in the 1920's on a few citrus trees near their homes (but not on the production portion of their groves). For production, you need uniformity of the crop, but creating "Frankenstein" trees would give your family a variety of fruits instead of a flood of identical product. As far as I know, all the orchard fruits we now eat are grown on trees which started out as a grafting onto a different rootstock (sometimes the desired product is grafted to a different trunk which was grafted to a different rootstock). Citrus trees take very well to grafting different fruits onto a base tree, but there are limits; for instance, you can't get avocados to grow on a lemon tree.
In my country it's been done for centuries. i mean it was done in grandpaas's time, unfutunately not a lot of people are interested in anymore. Yet i must say, that it was done mostly with pears and apples and not with 40 types of fruits.
Roger Keulen the united states holds some of the oldest trees on earth and most certainly the largest trees which are also the largest biological thing ever on earth that we know of... just because our country is under 300 years old doesn't mean anything we clearly look at everything the USA has achieved with smart people and hard work with people from cultures all around the world so basically you saying Americans think everything is new your saying the whole world thinks that way... stop using stereotypes and use logic. anyone who paints a country of 329m people with a broad paintbrush like that is an ignorant moron.
Cayapas Actually, these journalists and our government leaders are city bred college educated dolt whose knowledge of physical sciences is learned from Al Gore. They promote and help pass really bad laws.. Most of the rest of us regular folk know about grafting, and it has been practiced here since the first colonists arrived. When I watched this with my daughter she asked if new people were stupider than normal people. Maybe this professor needs a Nobel prize for discovering grafting!
MyBarbAnne Europe thinks the same...done that and got the T-shirt. Have a P9 root with a nice english Cox in my garden. It's a good year for apples where i live :-)
You may have old trees, but your country is a falling apart piece of shit. Your people are largely stupid, your government is the world's bully and your food is fake and unhealthy.
what amazes me is that he could help change attitudes, to the ideas of gm as he shows just how reaaly diverse nature is and that trees are possibly versatile beyond the minds of scientists So eat and devour the tree of the fruit of ... the professor
This is very useful of just one tree for all sorts fruits suitable for not big land to grow all this fruit trees. So we can do it in just one tree to make all fruits we can graphs, wow! This is in the Bible so now it’s come out real happen by our experimenting. Genius indeed.
That's cool. When I buy multi-grafts a lot of the times branches die because they compete within the tree's system for sap and nutrients, etc. It is a real shame that New York would tear out that orchard ... that is a real crime.
the thing is: just because some daily-news-guy did not yet hear of something, it does not mean that it is "entirely new" this has been done for centuries.
Ok, true indeed, the scale is amazing. It takes years and years to get there. A friend of mine had recently taken care one of of my apple trees, grafting on 7 different types. Looking pretty good so far, 95% success rate - and that's just the start. :)
As these limbs are just limbs, does any of the DNA spread throughout the tree? My real question is, if it was alive long enough, could a fruit bear a seed that will grow a tree with multiple fruit? I doubt very seriously it would grow them all, but even two, or three types grown directly from a seed would be really cool. Another question would be, could you graft a fruit limb onto another type of tree, say a maple? If that were possible, you could make (possibly) any tree a fruit/nut/berry bearer. Personally, I'm thinking of a multi-berry tree, or bush. Ok, last question... would bush to tree grafting work?
And in the earth are neighbouring tracts, and gardens of vines, and green crops (fields etc.), and date-palms, growing out two or three from a single stem root, or otherwise (one stem root for every palm ), watered with the same water, yet some of them We make more excellent than others to eat. Verily, in these things, there are Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs) for the people who understand. Noble Quran Ch 13 Vers 4
I find it anoying that the outcome of using science to save those trees is always seen as a biblical miracle. Not paying attention to the man who spent countless hours and adapting new ways of grafting to make it possible.
Vonte Thomas It is possible to do the same with citrus trees, but it carries a huge risk of spreading a devastating disease called HLB or citrus greening if the budwood does not come from the correct source. this is amazing I'm actually have started to graft if I'm successful I can feed a few of the homeless around where I live have been able to do this to roses so far :)
Geniuses in the comments, we understand that grafting isn't new. But having this many types of fruits on 1 tree is an amazing feat.
Not really. And you can buy multi-fruit trees in commercially--usually up to 6 types, because the labor adds cost.
@@genli5603 🍪
Love it
@@genli5603 and you can buy them for $30 now
@@genli5603 I'm pretty sure 40 is a little more than 6
Grafting is nothing new, but there's no denying that his idea is brilliant with a delicious outcome.
Its more than grafting. Its 1800s fruit varieties on one tree
I know, it's just so beautiful and the fact that it produces stone fruits is awesome.
Bruce Wayne Yep, old crap on a stick. (We also have them here, for people that only like old stuff and internet :-)

Grafting has been long time practice but its my first time to hear doing it with 40 different varieties in a single Tree. He is indeed amazing. 😊😊

iTheGeek Do you like to waste your time reading about old news?

Could we graph alomnds to pear trees?
Not to pear, pear can graft to European quince I believe but that's it. Almond can graft with otherstone fruits - cherry, plum, peach, and nectarine.
Whats this tree called
So what happened to this project?
very much miraclus
I am back to this video after 5 years now whats the update .lol
