Good video Nicky! Couple things though
-Ledros and Kalista were never married, they were more like "meant for each other but never meant to be" because she was in an arranged betrothal to Hecarim
-Kalista found her way to the Blessed Isles by a chance encounter with Tiberius and his young apprentice, Ryze, whom she rescued at sea.
-The Blessed Isles council denied her request to help Isolde, Erlok Grael (Thresh) gave her a means to return to the isles at will hoping to get his own vengeance on the council who assigned him to the lowly duties of a thresher.
-Viego forced the Camavoran military to sail back to Helia, with Kalista imprisoned.
-Kalista was betrayed by Hecarim and Necrit, who encouraged Viego's mad dash to the blessed pools and bloody conquering of the Blessed Isles.
i can't believe Necrit was a part of the ruination, that's insane
All I took from that was that Veigo watched a Blessed Isles lore video on RUclips and that caused part of the problem
ya that's mb. I am a lore enthusiast but I'll never claim to know everything and often need to re-read stuff to remind me on specifics. The lore refresher in this video was based on her biography and not her appearance in the book - which is the most modern version obviously but I don't know if i really wanted to take aprox 12-13 hours to get the full refresher on that LOL.
@NickyBoi Totally fair! Wasn't trying to be harsh, just hoped to clear some things up. Does not help when Riot scatters one story over several different sources *cough* *cough arcane *cough* Sentinels of Light *cough*

Love Kalista, recently hit Mastery 7 on her, easily personal top 3 champion gameplay-wise and probably story-wise, loved the Ruination book as well, and I unquestionably understand why no one plays her. ADC is already a shithole of a role at the best of times, but when your champion is frequently gated from being good by pro play and functions mechanically different from every other champion in the game, it's a rough road. God love her.
Its the support reliance that ruins her for me.
@nishu4406 I get that, but as an ADC, you're frustratingly reliant on your support being decent to begin with, so I don't find it as big a deal on Kalista
@@nishu4406 that's actually what *makes* her for me personally lol. Imagine getting to play adc and have forced control over your support lol. You get to treat them like the cannon fodder they usually are. They're about to die? Yoink. You want to not die? Yoink. You want to send a message? Yoink. Jokes aside, she's obviously a pretty niche champ and design, but i love that about her. Ult aside, her kit is really fun to play once you get her down.

Make Laidros a weird ass support to Kallista's weird ass adc gameplay
I feel like some of the details in the lore sections are not really adding up with how Kalista's lore is described in the book. The Blessed Isles rejected Kalista and it was only thanks to Erlok (Thresh) that she got the key to return to the isles. I am also not sure if you keep calling Ledros Kalista's husband jokingly or not, because they were never in a relationship, let alone married. Kalista was actually arranged to marry Hecarim.
Ledros and Kalista were like a relationship in every single way but officially, the entire book is basically Kalista and Ledros pining for each other. And the Ledros short story is literally Ledros retaining his humanity because he loves her so much and wants to save her, and he almost succeded in doing so. They ARE husband and wife, just not married you know?
Yeah that's what I was thinking the TLDR version of the ruination novel he did is mostly incorrect
@@Ghilannugs They absolutely have feelings for each other but they never even ended up pursuing a relationship due to the roles in their society, that and Ledros not revealing his feelings are all what makes the tragedy work.

He went to her chambers the night before she first journeyed to the blessed isles and gave her a locket of great value which he could only affort by saving money throughout his whole life
A peasant climbing up to captain saving his entire life for a locket, which is probably nothing compared to the wealth kalista has access to, says enough
Ledros leaves the room and they both know of each others feelings but they cant act upon them because of kalistas bethrotel to hecarim

I love Kalista’s gameplay. Really wish they would just give her a real Ult tho. She is a super niche champion because of the Oathsworn thing, and because she is super niche, a lot of people dont even know what to do when you use your Ult on them, which basically means you have no Ult that game at all, and in turn makes people not want to play Kalista even more
But if you have a teammate who understands you just win
@@Machosause Exactly, thats also a downside, because thats exactly the reason Kalista has to always be balanced around pro-play, and is never allowed to be good, despite basically being without an Ult in solo queue already
Really wish they would remove her gameplay, because man her passive is just fundamentally toxic
@@xolotltolox7626 meh, her passive is fine. The movement is really good yeah but it interferes with her attack speed. And if they just gave her a real ult, Oathsworn would be a fine mechanic. There are FAR more toxic Adc passives than Kalista’s
Ledros is a must need for a new suport/top and in the novel, he is more a berseker character and that could differ him from leona
Gwen has a voice line with Kalista in LoR. “I remember you. You were kind to her. (Referring to Isolde) That’s always been super bittersweet to me😂
Kalista's gameplay and lore are just the best it's one of the only champions I can have fun with even if we are playing a 0v10 game
love seeing her spears absolutely cover other people untill they turn bright shadow isle green/blue from the spears
Honestly I love Kalista. Watching high level Kalista players utilize the champion, from TheShy innovating with her top lane, or any of the innumerable Korean adc greats, seeing pros hit the skill ceiling is honestly peak LoL for me. The new Kalista meta of Q max lethality build, has shown even more just how unique and powerful the champion can be in the right hands.
I adore her as a character, having plenty of short stories and a book certainly makes her a well explored character both before and after ruination and getting her alongside a whole lore event in wild rift is exciting.
But yeah uhh on top of not liking adcs I cannot see myself playing her much

As a nautilus main, kalista is the best match i can find, i love when she justs throws me into battle
If they ever do make Ledros a champion, I'd love to see the half health mechanic from LOR make a reappearance in his kit, like an ult that does current health damage. Might be toxic but it sounds fun

I play her because I loved the book. I only wish I could have higher than 30% wr on her but she’s not an easy adc to use. She has a puny range like Samira but without the tools to survive beyond big brain dodging which I suck at

I think her w and ult are also one of the huge reasons she's only really seen in pro play. her w is actually very useful during laning phase since it's basically a ward with extra range and her ult is basically a zhonyas for your support or an engage tool but both of those things are utterly useless in solo queue when you have no communication with your teammates.

Kalista gameplay is the most satisfying thing in the game, if you can attack move. It is an adrenalin rush of knowing you are a fucking mechanical god, but always being one step away from death because ADC. With other champs like Riven and Azir you either have more stats or some from of self peel Kalista is just you and your second mouse button. It does come at the cost of her feeling like shit if you are not used to her though. No canceling autos feels weird but has its own advantages.
The main thing holding her back is the fact her W and R need her support to be actual abilities. She can't have that because her E does full damage to objectives (which is why she is pro play skewed). Like just reduce her E damage against epic monsters by 90% and give her something on her W key to compensate and she would be way easier to balance to the normal player.
I don't know what to make here W, maybe something like an Ashe Q effect (bonus AD/Attackspeed ratio on autos) when an ally dies as a passive, and thee active gives doubles the E stacks you put in something for 3-7 seconds (based on rank). Or the active can give you the Runnan's hurricane effect for the duration instead (amplified if you bought Runnan's). That would fix the inconvenience of needing to set up minions with E for the reset during fights.

The ruination story line all happened the 4 years I couldnt play the game - or any computer game - So I greatly appreciate whenever you talk about it even if you feel that "everyone should know by now"

Two big details when it comes to Ledros trying to bring Kalista back.
Ledros had many moments where he almost gave up but he kept going, however the final straw was when Thresh started coming, quite frequently, to taunt Ledros and mock him. Only after a while did he give up, with Thresh enjoying the torment and laughing at Ledros being lost to oblivion.
And the worst (best) part.... Thresh reveals that if Ledros had kept going just a little while longer Kalista would've been brought back in her entirety.

it is so funny how we are all so different, my favorite characters are characters where i weave movement and attack between each others, so i love characters like ashe where i get to attack move a whole bunch to kite, or characters like udyr where i use the ghost part of the E to move through my opponent to body block them while using attacks.
I think her ult is really fun (as a tank support main) it can either be used to pull your support out or as a knockoff malpite ult

Just now realized that Kalista is LoL's Ghost Rider.
I thought Kalista was betrothed to Hecarim because Viego decreed it, but she and Ledros loved each other but duty kept them apart? At least that's what I recall from the Ruination book
They should've taken advantage of the shutdown mechanic with kalista considering that she's all about vengeance, as well as being easily behind so give her a comeback mechanic
Fun fact, I'm pretty sure Kalista was the first champion to be released after the map had the art-makeover.
The lore of the ruination is kinda stupid when you think about it.

I believe her W is supposed to be HOW she finds people using the pieces of soul as ammunition for her abilities
Kinda like her ult is her throwing the hate and regret of betrayal from that one soul at the one who betrayed
So her kit is pretty thematic it’s just as you said it is very situational and you need specific things to work for her to do well
Hey, just so you know, I know a challenger one trick who only plays Kalista mid on EUW/EUNE, sometimes people can make ANYTHING work in this game lol

Kalista is definitely my favorite character in the whole game, but yeah, I really would like if devs finally focused on one side of her gameplay identity and reworked her.
She should either be completely independent uniquely mobile ADC with backloaded damage or a "support for support" with full focus on her Black Spear, like Taric. I would prefer first option, but either is alright if she finally becomes whole and stops being such a balance nightmare skewed towards pro play.
Lethality Kalista with Q max first is actually becoming her default play style in pro-play so it is 100% viable
Just wanna say @echlypses’ art looks fucking fire, you could pass that as actual promotional art from Riot for Kalista.
They need to change Kalista's R especially if you don't want to be targeted by it. I remember it screwing up my gameplay when a random decided to press R. Should have a confirmation window if you are being killed for it.

Kalista is on the moderately difficult side
There's a lot to keep track of, her spear stacking and piercing, and then also her passive dodging, and constantly being vigilant with your ally, and because of her Ult, some champions simply do not work alongside her
She's difficult to buff, because slightest wrong move, and she becomes broken

What i hate is that her kiting ability is PERFECT for 1v1 duels, you can just focus on a single enemy and kite and evade his attacks until you kill him, her Q and E are horrible against more than one target and she has virtually no aoe damages but his W and R require you to go botlane and fight more than one enemy. Its completely polarizing, either make her a duelist or a teamfighter
At least you get to play a mid laner next week!

Yeaaaaah the lore section of your video is basically the old lore, like, a LOOOOT of it is the old lore. They made some pretty significant changes, some nice, some not nice (like her being backstabbed by the entirety of the Iron Order, it was changed to Hecarim stabbing her in the back with a sword, which was kinda lame tbh).

I haven't finished THIS video to see if that's also the same for this one but this just crossed my mind from seeing the title
