Presenting the short journey from Mangaluru Central (Mangalore Central) to Kabaka Puttur by the 06485 Express Special. This is a very unique train - it has just 5 coaches and runs mostly empty since it runs at an unearthly hour. This train starts from Mangalore Central at 0510hrs every day, and arrives Kabaka Puttur about 2 hours later.
Watch this video if you are fan of ALCOs! This journey was performed solely since this train received an ALCO! ALCOs are soon becoming extinct - and any opportunity to travel with them shouldn't be missed!

The announcement at Mangalore Central changed . It had old pgt divn announcement till feb 2023. Missing those days
That Alco music at 14:19, just wow. 😮 . I had taken these for granted a decade back, have not heard them for years now.
With fast electrification of Mangaluru Bengaluru line, diesels will disappear in this line in few months. You are really lucky to have travelled in a train hauled by WDM3A which is a rarity nowadays....

traveled in 12620-Matsyaganda Express to Honnavar
traveled in 16540-Man Ypr Express (enjoyed this stretch in vistadome)

ALCOs are dwindling in Southern Railways territory, your video, which records, the engine start of ALCOs at Tirunelveli (TEN) and the chugging sound between TEN and SCT could be the last one, as that section is completely getting WAPs now. Hope these workhorses find better job duties as it is hard to see them doing trifling jobs at various yards. It will be interesting to see the future of ERS DLS, wish and pray for the loco shed gets WAPs and WAGs.

What is special about Kabaka Puttur?
Of course Puttur is very special for us, especially for me as a Kasrotaran. We call Kekam(East) Puttur since we have another Puttur in Kasaragod.
Many Kasrotars have settled in Puttur for agricultural and commercial purposes.
and a few from Travancore too.
I also have many relatives there.
Betel leaves and watermelons in Puttur are world class.
My mother also brought up in Bantwal (Now Banta Wala)
Nothing special.

What will happen after the development works at Mangalore stations,
One Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat will depart from Central and the other from Junction.
Why will Vande Bharat go there? They'll require complete rescheduling of the trains
