    My grandmother was born in Denmark and used to make this when I was a child and we all lived together. I remember she used strawberries and rhubarb. I have been looking for a recipe for many years (I'm 75 years old!) This brings back good memories. I'm going to make it with the mixture of berries. Thanks for sharing this excellent video!

      So glad for your comment. I have to admit that I also enjoy making the dishes my mother and grandmother used to make for me. The rhubarb and strawberry combinatin is also great. Enjoy!

    In the Virgin Islands we make this with guava instead of berries. Interesting to see the original! I will be trying this! Thanks for sharing!

      It is so nice to read your comment. Yes, I know the the VIrgin Islands were part of Denmark years ago. I just wonder, do you still keep to some of the Danish traditions? Interesting that you make this dessert with guava. I would never have thought of that. Hope to hear more from you again. Greetings from Karen Grete and Heidi

    thank you for responding! the Danish built buildings are still there. Many of those in Christiansted are now museums. I cannot say much about the differences in customs as I have not researched Danish customs. the architecture is still there and the cities still hold the original Danish names. much of the cuisine is similar but with a Caribbean twist. how about visiting some time. the views and weather are amazing. 😀

    So glad I found this. My great aunt came over from Bisserup(sp) and she made this every summer. Rhubard, raspberries, strawberries. gooseberries and currents. Not all at once, but in different combinations. Many of these recipies were lost when she past. Now I can bring back these family favorites thanks to your website!!! .

      +Scandinavian Today I LOVE Denmark!! Copenhagen literally bewitched me. Love the Danish people-AND those magnificent open sandwiches!!!!!! I felt really at home there, as though I belonged. It saddened me to have to leave.
      However, I totally gave up trying to pronounce "rodgrod med flode", lol. I doubt that my throat muscles would ever be able to twist themselves enough to say it properly:)
      I come from the same part of the world as Princess Mary and was delighted to see so many postcards featuring her.
      Denmark rocks!!

    • @coralarch
      @coralarch 7 лет назад

      +Scandinavian Today, it took me a while to get used to all the cyclists in Copenhagen, lol. I almost got skittled a few times.
      I had a fantastic open sandwich at a restaurant near the Little Mermaid- it was so pretty that I was reluctant to eat it, but I did take photos of it:)
      I watch a lot of documentaries and your Queen Margarethe impresses me with her superb English and obvious intelligence. She truly is a great ambassador for Denmark.
