Ledger in real life vs him in the Dark Knight are 2 completely different people. If you listen to an interview of him, his voice is so soft, gentle and charismatic. In the film it's so dark, and cruel and unusual. That just underlines his unbelievable dedication and acting, and staying in a hotel room for 1 month did pay off after all. Shame he's gone, when I watched the Dark Knight I felt that if the joker was a real person in our world, he would talk, move, laugh, and unleash chaos on a city like Gotham EXACTLY how ledger portrayed the joker.
You have to be in the mindset that Harvey was asleep from pain and delusional, half his face is gone....no drugs, but endorphins cause hallucinations and distortions. Easily mistaking Joker for a nurse. Not farfetched at all. I was on IV codeine as a kid in the hospital once and had a conversation with the wall.
Did U gyz noticed the fingers of Heath during the Gun scene...🔫 Even if the trigger was pulled it won't fire...😎 Since he jammed it already...😂 scripted or not it was pure brilliance 💖
Out of his league? Look, I absolutley love Heath Ledger's Joker as much as the next guy and even the guy after him. It's iconic, it's Legendary, and will go down as one of, if not the most iconic comic book portrayal ever. Trust me, I get that. But you really have to go back and really take a look at this scene, but only look at Aaron Eckhart's performance. This man went from complete blinding rage, to desperate to move so he can strangle The Joker, he then starts to hear Joker out. He then contemplates what he's hearing and it clicks for him. He was able to believably portray a man who full of rage who wanted to kill the person he loved, and transformed into a person who now has a gun and The Joker right in his hands and instead of, he accepts a new truth and is now someone who wants exact revenge on the city he swore to protect. All that in a 5 minute conversation with The Joker, AND with only half his face I might add...
I had to add my own piece. Aaron Eckharts performance is the only transformative performance in the film and the damn heart and bleeding soul of the narrative. He's the Hero of the Dark Knight. He's the tragedy of the Dark Knight. He's practically JFK. He fucked with the mob and it cost him everything
My only real complaint about Eckhart’s Two Face is that because he’s missing skin, muscle, sinew, ligaments it’s physically impossible for him to speak that clearly. He should be slurring his words and putting a lot of effort to enunciate.
Actually that "hospital explosion scene" was not improvised. There's a 3D animation Nolan had made where the "explosion stars, then stops; 3D-model-Heath turns and acts disappointed, and suddenly the explosions starts again". It was always meant to happen that way.
Yes you are right it was meant to be a pause between the explosions, but Heath added the twiddling with the detonator part rather than just emote disappointment. That physicality of showing his disappointment elevated the scene to a Joker level of crazy.
Wrong. The explosion was always meant to be delayed, but Heath was always supposed to walk straight to the bus. Him stopping and playing with it was improvisation.
Whats great about this scene is that to me the joker gives the illusion of control. but if you look closely he's holding the hammer of the revolver so even if the trigger is pulled it won't go forward.
I honestly just done watched this movie again after a couple years maybe for the 5 years or more maybe and I still got chilled to the JOKER and the entire movie plot Such a legend ...
I was just about to say that the last part was actually a movie mistake, I honestly think that if it hadn't have happened then that scene wouldn't have been anywhere near as good. It fits perfectly with the fact that moments ago he said, "I just do things".
but when you watching joker reaction is always like first time you watching him . that acting that screenplay that cinematography .. just wow every time there is something new.
You do realize that this type of Joker was originally Ledgers idea, right? The directors came along after ledger showed them his stuff....and ledger originally tried for Batman, if I remember correctly....so the actor, in this case was the writer, in a significant amount.
My favorite scene of this movie has to be the interrogation scene with the joker just because of the lighting... You can it's Ledger's face but you can't match it to the voice
Korbin get in line, there are many including me ahead of you in the Heath Ledger fan club ( I loved him in the Patriot and a Knights tale) from frame 1
Dont sleep on Aaron Eckharts performance. Harvey Dent is the focal point of the entire plot. Ledgers portrayal is excellent however the character is static and doesn't have an arc. The plot is Harvey Dent. He is "the face of justice". Its the character's sweeping ambition to face down the mob , knowing the risks. Gordon and Bruce are driven in their belief in Dent. The better part of screen time is the Jokers pursuit of Harvey. To find him. Kill him or break him by whatever means possible. Harvey Dent is the lone transformative story arc. Going from Hero and symbol of justice to abandoning his morales in broken despair turned violent and mad. Heath Ledger gets his well share of praise. Were it not for this role he would be remembered immortally for playing the greatest gay cowboy ever in Brokeback Mountain. The collective AAA cast of The Dark Knight is what makes this film a Hollywood classic. Any disregard of the equally excellent performance Aaron Eckhart had in this film is absurd. The bar is set high for any actor attempting to fill future roles of both the Joker and Harvey Dent. Shit I dont think we'll ever see a better Commissioner Gordon for Christ sake Gary Oldman was the truth
Contrary to popular belief, the last part wasn't improvised. They planned the entire thing out. The reason why that part was there was to determine the minor explosions from the dangerous ones. Obviously the dangerous one happens after the pause of the previous explosions.
There's nothing to laugh about in this scene, the joker is literally terrifying in this movie, legit for real! That's why this is one of the greatest villain performances of all time!
The explosion was not improv, the whole thing was scripted, the pause was always suppose to be there, it was a safety precaution to insure that Heath could get out of the blast zone in time.

The beginning laugh was good until the cough
The optimum pressure over words and totally manipulative attitude, Only Heath could do that!
You do realize that this type of Joker was originally Ledgers idea, right? The directors came along after ledger showed them his stuff....and ledger originally tried for Batman, if I remember correctly....so the actor, in this case was the writer, in a significant amount.

As a kid when I first saw this in theaters, I found it disturbing seeing the Joker disguised as a nurse in the hospital just to see Harvey Dent
Thats my most favorite movie and this scean is just amazing..
what a talented actor. Death follows talent...FUCK DEATH!
Did you notice the joker's finger, even if dent pulled the trigger, the hammer wouldn't fall, he was holding it. "Do i look like a guy with a Plan?"
You know Joker is completely lying since he knew exactly both Dent and Rachel locations
