    So I take it that the faster it flies using the rear propeller propulsive force the slower the main props will rotate to avoid the normal issues with the tips breaking the sound barrier?

    Imagine a swarm of these, at night, armed with suitable small diameter guided bombs, dropping dozens on a high speed low level target run, coordinated to come in from every direction to a target from over the horizon.
    interesting thought experiment. :)

    • @CriscCiaddu
      @CriscCiaddu 2 года назад

      Yes, this technology can save people's lives because it makes the helicopter faster and more maneuverable to make landings and take-offs faster.
      If the technology is used for normal, mountainous or marine helicopter rescue it would be something extraordinary.
      Even in the military field, it allows a squad of infantrymen to be pulled out of an area with a high density of fire more effectively than with current traditional helicopters.

    this is very similar to the old Cheyenne project in the late 60s. Curious if this concept was built from that foundation I j see more streamline fuselage and dual rotor hubs - I think would haven given the Apache a run for its money and was years ahead of MDs design.

    • @Prometheus203
      @Prometheus203 6 лет назад +1

      RocKiteman _ 2001 The Cheyenne was better in every way than the Apache except the Apache is more survivable and the computer technologies needed to make the Cheyenne safe to operate weren't really developed yet. Today the dual main rotor is more survivable than the dual tail and the computer technology has been perfected to a level that probably makes the X2/S97 easier to fly than a conventional helicopter while maintaining flight within the safety envelope designed for the aircraft.

      According to a Wikipedia page for the X-2 - linked below -that aircraft's *maximum* speed will be 288 M.P.H. At that speed, a propeller is adequate.
      Moreover, in a dive, the propeller can {I presume} be put into a reverse blade angle, to keep the aircraft from overspeeding.
      The old Lockheed AH-65 Cheyenne single-main-rotor helicopter used a rear propeller, and could put it in reverse to keep from overspeeding in a dive.

      You are naive if you take that as a proof. You are as lucid as a door if you think that the military industry is not manipulating the political structure. The f35 should do like the f22. A true combat exercise with a foreign country.

      Christopher Gaul Do you seriously want to announce your ignorance that shamelessly to the whole world?

    • @ChristopherGaul
      @ChristopherGaul 7 лет назад +1

      No, you're doing a fine job of demonstrating your ignorance already, no need to duplicate your effort.
      Meanwhile in the real world the F-35 is a sad commentary on government excess, greed, bribery, and design by committee. If it weren't for the fact that they were smart enough to spread the manufacturing out over enough states to get a lot of votes and pork for plenty of Congressmen, it would be dead and cancelled and replaced with more sensible upgrade programs for the aircraft it's intended to replace but never will. But even if it could, it's based on a disturbingly ignorant US "connected battle" strategy that is overly dependent on electronic data sharing. The USS Donald Cook incident has already proven that not only are the US's potential adversaries aware of this strategy and it's weaknesses, but that the already know how to defeat it and turn these overly expensive weapons systems into useless piles of junk.
      Now add to that the fact that the F-35 can't do ground support half as well as an A-10 at an order of magnitude the cost. It can't out dogfight the F-15 at the same cost ratio and because of system like the one that took out the USS Donald Cook will force them to become individual fighters instead of integrated systems on a real battlefield, they'll be expensive missile fodder that's already been proven inferior when forced to fight conventional air superiority roles.
      Oh, and all the planes it's meant to replace can actually fly in the rain, unlike the F-35.
      But go ahead, spew your ignorant fanboy, rah rah, nonsense about how awesome the F-35 is.
      Meanwhile, the X2 technology in this video is excellent and is the future of rotary aircraft and it denigrates it to compare it to the F-35.

      Christopher Gaul I lost it when you mentioned the Donald Cooke incident. You know that half of it is propaganda hogwash, right? The systems were not shut down and "all 34" sailors did not quit. Don't embarrass yourself. Dogfights? Really? What are you, 12? Meanwhile in the real world, the F-35 has a 20:1 record against adversaries including the F-15s and F-16s (Red Flag exercises, obviously ). Is the F-35 the best plane we could have had? No, it would have been better to make specialized airplanes for each role. However, the F-35 is better than any legacy fighter. Try sending an A-10 into contested air space, you're probably foolish enough to do so. The F-35 will be able to provide CAS where the A-10 won't . There's a shitload of stuff you don't know about the F-35. Stop trying to sound smart, your failing miserably. If you want to continue being igorant because it makes you happy, please do so. But take your misinformation and ignorance away from here.
