It may have been mentioned before.. but you can manual focus on the 16-50 pancake by selecting MF on the camera and then the zoom ring becomes a focus ring and you can still zoom with the power zoom function.
The 16-50 Kit lens has a wide-tele zoom control lever, apart from the focus ring which can act as a zoom ring. Thus, when using manual focus you can change the focal length with the lever whilst focusing with the ring.
I had the 16-50 and sold it because I hated the electronic zoom. Just picked up a super clean 18-55. I shoot with an A7 now and usually use adapted manual focus lenses but I am going to a big festival this weekend and I am going to be drinking so I don't have the time to manually focus everything.
the 16 to 50 has a manual focus ring as well. its the small ring at the front. I have this lens and was the 1st one I got with my camera. If you have focus setting in the camera set to manual rather than auto it will disable the small ring for zoom and make it into a manual focus ring. Or auto focus with manual support ( DMF )
Couldn't agree more - solid review Eric! Glad I could help ;-) The 18-55mm was the kit lens for the NEX-7 and people raved about it. I guess when they moved into more lens design this one wasn't as popular. Its a hell of a deal for what it costs - I have 2! If for no other reason - manual zoom and manual focus are worth the entire deal.
The Art of Photography Something I do not understand: on a a6300 what kind of 18-55 lens is needed? Because looks like sam I and II lenses are not compatible..like what kind of words do I need to type in order to find the compatible 18-55 sony? How much is it used in euros? Can somebody explain please?
Hey there. Thanks for making this video. great job! after my kit 16-50 lens broke after falling from a cheap tripod, i decided to get something a bit better, but with similiar specs. Ill be checking out the 1855 now, and wanted to check if you know if ebay is a safe place to buy them. There are alot of listings from china and korea for this lens. However im assuming that they are actually manufactured there, so that is the reason. Ive been googling around to see if there are known fakes, and havent seen any yet. Do you know if its reliable buying from korea or china these lenses? Thanks :)
Spot on review ! I have both kit lenses. I got the 18-55 when I bought the NEX 5 years ago and the 16-50 with my a6000 some years later. Considering that they were only about 150 dollars each as part of a kit, they are both great especially for the money. Nowadays I tend to use the 16-50 more because I have the Sony dust cover for the a6000 plus the kit zoom which makes for a great casual carry around combo. I use the 18-55 less now also because I now have the Zeiss 16-70 which has a similar form factor and ergonomics to the 18-55 but with a bit of extra range on both ends (plus better quality ... at a premium price however). Nevertheless, the kit lenses are very useful and don't deserve the bad "press" they seem to get from many bloggers and vloggers.
100% agree, the bad press is in my opinion from semi uneducated people. They truly dont understand the gear and just learned they always must have the top of the line stuff. Not everyone needs a $1K lens. Most actually dont.
When I bought the a6300 bundled with the 16-50 I didn't have high expectations from the lens. I was pleasantly surprised by the IQ, although the corners suffer from distortion at the wide end. I expected that though, so no surprise there. For a small 'walk-around' option it's a decent value. The 18-55 was not an option at my place of purchase, but I would have chosen that one instead if I had the choice - just to make my transition from a DSLR system a little easier.
So, I'm going to purchase a Sony A6000 and I need to pick a lens. I'm on a budget and I'm also fairly knew to the world of mirrorless cameras. I prefer sports photography such a surfing, and landscape photography usually with a subject who is out of focus. Should I pick the 18-55mm or the 16-50mm?
Personally I like the 18-55, the 16-50 may focus a bit faster but for surfing photos you are going to need a telephoto lens. Something longer then 50mm
What Guardian Observer was referring to is that Sony tend to be expensive compared to other brands. Though I wanna suggest that this price difference is mostly on full frame e-mounts where it gets expensive quite fast.
choose the 16-50 If you interested in shooting video on gimbal. because of balancing.. when you changing angle of lens, this lens helps to you much more about rebalancing time..
i was suprised that doing reviews this kit lens 18-55mm e mount actually beats the canon 50mm F1.8 II in alot of aspects and that is one heck of a lens even without oss which i dont use anyway as found on 70-300mm canon it has potential to mess up shots , but get great results without. focus peaking omg love it i have never found manual focus so easy to do
Great video. Thank you. Quick q, is the electronic zoom available only with the 16-50 or is it available in both ? Do we get farther zoom coverage in 18-55 than 16-50 ?
Eric Rossi thanks for the answer. With 18-55 I should still be able to aim and click right ? Meaning I don't have to adjust the zoom everytime to focus . The manual function is only for zoom but the camera is still on autofocus. Sorry I'm new to slr cameras, all I'm used to is aim and click. I'm planning to get the a6000 with 18-55
lovelygrtt yup it still has autofocus! The bonus for the 18-55 is having the ability to have manual focus. You will need to zoom though as it is not a power zoom.
hello can you recommend this lens for gimbal for example i want to take wedding video can i record wedding videos with this lens please info give me more greetings from turkey
I can't decide which combination would be better value for money. I'm getting a6000 + 16-50 + 55-210 + 35 1.8 or a6000 + 16-70 for about the same price. Which is a better deal please suggest. If 16-70 is that good i'll go with that, but if it's only just a slightly better than 16-50 then i think its not worth it. Since i guess you've first hand experience of the lenses can you please advise?
+Eric Rossi i extremely like the look and feel of the a6000 body. Bt there's no 2.8 native zoom plus 16-70 from what i hear is not so much better than 16-50. Want to hear it from the horses mouth.
I am leaning hard to want to trade my 16-50 for a 18-55 I really want to be able to turn off and on my camera without having to reset the focal length back to 23 or 33 mm. If i wanted a smaller lens I have the 20mm F2.8 pancake the smallest sony e-mount lens.
Eric Rossi I don't zoom when shooting videos. I am turned on by the dedicated manual focus ring on the 18-55. But, I don't want to be that guy who gives up a superior technology or rather new way of doing things just because I am used to the older way of doing things. Do, you think it is perfectly possible to adapt to the 16-50 lens? Which one is user friendly once you have spent enough time with both the lenses? Thoughts?
Thank you very much by the overview! Now I'll definitely buy the 18-55mm; this one is costing around 70 USD in the second hand market of my country while the 16-50 is around 230 USD. I was disappointed with my new a6300 because I tested it with the 16-50mm and faced the problems you described, like you I'm a Nikon user. I don't believe way the MF works on this lens is a option when you have a perfect moment to shoot. So the 18-55 will be a cheap and good option until I have the money to buy better lenses!
I’m a new Beginner still learning how to use my camera. I brought a NEX7 for $300 & it was like brand new in the box with the kit lens two batteries a hood & the charger & because I am mostly doing video to stream on RUclips after seeing a lot of videos if I decide to do a upgrade I will buy the Sony 35mm F1 8 lens besides I don’t want to spend $1700 for the Sony A7-3 if it’s not necessary

I got a 18-55 sam of my sony a65 adapted to my a6300 when the 16-50 die... great fealing. The manual controls are priceless... even whith the chunky adap ring.
18-55 kit came with my Sony NEX-5 back in 2010 and used it for almost 10 years. Only been using primes (sigma 16 and Sony 35) with my A6400. Will give the 18-55 a chance on the A6400….it’s handy after all
in general i use the 18-105G when im not using my manual lenses on the a6000 but i have the 18-55 for my nex as the underwater housing i have for it is designed for that lens. good quality lens though
As always, thanks for the share +Eric Rossi. I have to agree with Mr Forbes, coupled with my NEX 7, it is quite a serviceable lens. The extra reach I get at 55 while doing street photography, makes a world of a difference. My personal experience, from F5.6 to F9, are the real sweet spots. I can't compare to the 16-50 as I've never shot with it, but thought I would offer my input on the 18-55 as an owner, and still quite happy with it. Stay well my friend!
Love this!! Could you post a link to the video you quoted in regards to walking around with these lenses, I'm interested if there is a huge difference in the image stabilisation with in the lens, I'm extremely new to vlogging, I'm struggling with the camera shake walking around, do you think the 18-55 will make a difference with the a5000?
Such a nice review! Plus, 16-50 tends to break easily and are very sensitive.. did not drop them or anything but the camera cannot recognize the lens :/ planning on buying the 18-55! Thanks so much
Alicia Yi Something I do not understand: on a a6300 what kind of 18-55 lens is needed? Because looks like sam I and II lenses are not compatible..like what kind of words do I need to type in order to find the compatible 18-55 sony? How much is it used in euros? Can somebody explain please?
Two 16 - 50 broke on me, so I would not recommend that lens to anyone. In fact is the reason I am telling people to look elsewhere (non-sony) if top quality is paramount on a small camera. So I am looking to get a used 18 to 55, as it can be found pretty cheap.
I own them both. The 18-55 I bought with my Sony Nex 3 a long time ago. And I bought a cheap secondhand Sony A6000 with the small 16-50 mm lens for 250 euro secondhand. Like new! I like the small lens, is also black, but offcourse I tryed the 18-55mm. Quality photo's a little the same. I also use my old 16mm F2.8 mm with ultra wide converter x75, that is fun. The A6000 is a great camera, much better then the Nex 3 offcourse. Nice vlog, tnx. Do not miss the manual control on the 16-50 (you can set your camera to autofocus), I play a lot with good FD Canon lenses on my A 6000 with converter and autofocus is a great progress, I can tell you that. Perhaps this week I am going to bye a Sony 18-135mm secondhand for 99 euro. Let see if it is still oké.
dropped my 16 50 from about 5 ft flat face down onto laminate floor ..ouch front lens popped out . took me a while to sort out reassemble,, and it was out of focus . did a factory reset lens on camera a6000.. all good again ..
I bought my a6300 with the 16-50mm. I would like to have the 18-55mm because of that manual controlled fokusring, but I don't have the money to switch.
I just got the 6300 and a 35mm f1.8, but I also have the 16-55 from my old nex-5. There is no denying that the prime has better image quality, especially how flat the image field is. However, we don't live in the film era any more, an advantage with digital is how easy it is to correct for distortion and dark corners. I did some simple test and with digital corrections, it's almost impossible to tell between the two lenses. The prime probably has slightly more contrast but such differences are EASILY overshadowed by photography skill. This is not to say I just wasted my money however, the prime is f1.8 which will be MUCH more useful in low light. The kit lens is just way too slow.
18-55 has same filter size as 50mm 1.8, 20mm 2.8, 28mm f2, 35mm oss.. and many more less common, loke laowa 9mm or 7artisans 55 1.4. Worth considering imo
Hi! Thank you for your video. I am coming from Canon and i am new to Sony so i need some advises. I have a question: the 18-55 whoul work for the Sony alpha 7S mark II? Or i would need an adapter? If iI need an adapter which one would you use?
nah, you wouldnt want to use these lenses on that full frame sensor anyway. I would just get a better lens or get a kit lens that comes with the A7s ii
Is it worth getting the 18-55 for the sony a7sii, seeing as you'll have to use it on aps-c mode? If the sony a7sii has 12megapixels, what will the megapixels be on aps-c mode? I was looking to buy one of these lenses just to have something practical lying around with that kind of range, for location scouting, etc, but am worried that the quality will be much worse...
@@Eric_Rossi thanks man. i've been reading everywhere that buying an aps-c lens for a FF camera is a bad idea. I'm now considering buying the sony FE 28-70mm. However, I am still curious about what the megapixel drop is though. I know on the 42mp cameras they go down to 18, and on the 18 they go down to 10. do you know what the a7sii 12megapixels become on photos taken with an aps-c lens?
i have both and they are very versatile lenses on my nex 5 (original) you do see a little more chromatic aberration with the 16-50 but if you have the right lens profile in LR you can get rid of most of that in post :) you should do a top e-mount picks on lenses !!!
@@caferastas8591 Well today I sold my 16-50 for £60 and got the 18-55 with a Neewer 35mm lens for £50. I swapped because I think the 18-55 is more suited for video than the other.
I needed this video just got an a6000 with no kit lens and I was debating on this 2 lenses, as far as autofocus speed should be the same in both right?
Great review just exactly what I needed since I've been buying some of this equipment of the used market and I've got both now... I love it when people share some examples and images not just opinions on photographic gear... And I really have to agree with your assessment probably because I'm like you and I come from old School SLR shooting from clear back to the early 70s..
After 4 years of this video. Do you are using the SONY 18-55 Do you keep is great or is not I hope your responded before I take a decision with one I am watching on eBay. thank you.
@@Eric_Rossi After I purchased I agree with you my friend is a good lens better than packet 16-50 mm I got both but I prefer 18-55 mm once again thank you for your video.
Hmm ok that's cool. It's a shame there isn't any "vlog" style video tests of the 18mm lense. I do a Pokemon GO series on my channel and I'm trying to get a better wide angle so you can see more of whats going on in my shots instead of just my face which I hate.
Something I do not understand: on a a6300 what kind of 18-55 lens is needed? Because looks like sam I and II lenses are not compatible..like what kind of words do I need to type in order to find the compatible 18-55 sony? How much is it used in euros? Can somebody explain please?
Not fully sure what you are asking, do you mean because this is a crop sensor camera, what lens you would need for it that equals to around the 18-55 look?
Eric Rossi no, in order to mount a lens on a a6300, which 18-55 is needed? For example I bought a 18-55 sam I and it wasn't compatible with that lens.. Thanks for the quick reply
Nice video Eric. :) This was my first lens I bought (used for 130.00usd) with my first a6000 and I was and still am very happy with it, for wider angles I have the sony16mmf2.8, and if I am bringing my bigger bag I would slap on my tokina11-16mmf2.8 for nikon w/adpt, now a days I have the sony18-105f4 an I have been using that a lot and love it but if I just want to go for a walk I always take the 16mm and the 18-55mm with me. Also, they look awesome on my second silver a6000. :D
Hello, im a beginner in photography and im planning on buying a Sony A6000. The photographer that recommended me this camera said that the lens should be 18.55. When i asked another photographer, he said that i don't need a 18.55 and i could use the 16.50. I mostly take pictures of people, but also i take close-ups and food. Witch lens would you reccomend me as a start?
@@Eric_Rossi The thing is that the camera im buying is an already used one, and unfortunately there aren't any lens coming with it. But still, thank you for your reply, it was very usefull!
I had the NEX5N with the 18-55 and I have now the A6000 with the 16-50 and I like the 16-50 better, because it IS smaller AND the wider angle looks better with HDR landscapes.
16-50mm is wider and is the most important advantage, but if you want manual focus lens there are plenty of third party lens you can choose from with greater zoom range.
It's funny I've been saying the 18-55 is MUCH better but everyone would argue 'it's not as portable and doesn't have servo zoom'. But I would trade that for the IQ with the 18-55 as I just love the pictures and video quality from the 18-55
haha yeah they are pretty well known for their Used inventory in Houston lol i need a decent cheap video lens so this should do for now! Great video by the way very informative love your videos man.
Perhaps it is that my lens is a defective one. I'm not a professional, I'm a profane in photography, I have the older 18-55 f3.5-5.6 that came as a kit with my Nex5 along with the 16F28 and work perfectly, but with this, the PZ 16-50, I see huge distortions, I took several pictures and the doors and walls were all bended, curved, arched... And, if while recording videos you zoom in or out, the noise of the motor inside will be heard very clear and loud in the results. I'm so disappointed that I I've gone back to my older one and put this away for good. If, instead of Sony, it were a unknown and cheap brand I'll could accept it, but they sell it for about 380.00€!!!! Hate it so much and consider it so bad that I'll be ashamed to sell it to someone on eBay or similar. Thanks for your video, is clear and with no mince on your words, different from others reviews wich only celebrate de "goodness" of the 16-50
16-50 has a manual focus control. Select manual focus option from the menu and the same ring becomes your manual focus control.
I was confused when his said it doesn't do manual focus. I use manual focus on 16-50 all the time.

I totally agree the 18-55, when I got it with my NEX was amazing. I would easily get it over the 16-50.
2021. I bought a nex camera just for the 18.55 for my a6600.
I found that a nex body with 18.55 is cheaper than finding a mint 18.55 separately
The 16-50 breaks really easy. It has cheap plastic rings inside to control zoom with tiny nobs that break with the slightest touch.
I use the 18-55 on my A7m2. It is outstanding on that body as well.
Hey you say you can manually focus the 16-50 but most say that the ring is zoom or focus depending on settings. So does it do manual focus?
side question... but the 16-50mm is a power zoom lens.. does that mean it will contribute to draining the cameras battery? (shorter battery life)
good question but no nothing noticeable at all, Sony just has the worst battery life
i was suprised that doing reviews this kit lens 18-55mm e mount actually beats the canon 50mm F1.8 II in alot of aspects and that is one heck of a lens even without oss which i dont use anyway as found on 70-300mm canon it has potential to mess up shots , but get great results without. focus peaking omg love it i have never found manual focus so easy to do

oh thats awesome! Yeah I would pick the 18-55 as well if an option.
would you rather buy an a6000 kit or body only with an 18-105 f/4?
personally the 18-105 is an amazing lens but those are two totally different prices lol
well, I've got the chance to ditch the kit lense, save 100 bucks and go with a used 18-105 for 450.. hmm..
I'm late to this, but if you can find a 18-105 for 450, do it NOW! Even if you dont end up using it, you can definitely sell it and make a profit.
I have the very same 18-55 and was going to source a 16-50. It was purely for compactness. I may not bother after the video and comments response.

both are equal, like I mentioned, I'd take the 18-55!
what's that filter on the 18-55? it says Philippines, I'm just curious which brand
If I remember correctly a 49mm filter
Thank you very much by the overview! Now I'll definitely buy the 18-55mm; this one is costing around 70 USD in the second hand market of my country
while the 16-50 is around 230 USD.
I was disappointed with my new a6300 because I tested it with the 16-50mm and faced the problems you described, like you I'm a Nikon user.
I don't believe way the MF works on this lens is a option when you have a perfect moment to shoot.
So the 18-55 will be a cheap and good option until I have the money to buy better lenses!
yeah I enjoyed the 18-55 a bit more as well
I’m a new Beginner still learning how to use my camera.
What about for vlogging? Would you still say the 18-55 is a better choice?
its ok, I would look into a wider angle though. 10-18mm is a good choice besides these two, but overall I would take the 16 since its a bit wider
Eric Rossi Would that still provide a nice depth of field when shooting with a 10-18?
not really, anything wide angle isnt the best for that. You would want something 35mm, 50mm, 85mm
18-55 kit came with my Sony NEX-5 back in 2010 and used it for almost 10 years. Only been using primes (sigma 16 and Sony 35) with my A6400. Will give the 18-55 a chance on the A6400….it’s handy after all
in general i use the 18-105G when im not using my manual lenses on the a6000 but i have the 18-55 for my nex as the underwater housing i have for it is designed for that lens.
good quality lens though
yeah if I had a choice, 18-105 anyday!
Stay well my friend!
hope all is well man! But yeah Ted told be about it so I jumped on it and I def liked the 18-55!
Honestly, the stabilization isnt the best. It's more geared for stills. The 16-50 will fare better for that.
Such a nice review! Plus, 16-50 tends to break easily and are very sensitive.. did not drop them or anything but the camera cannot recognize the lens :/ planning on buying the 18-55! Thanks so much
interesting, glad to help though! You will enjoy the 18-55
Alicia Yi Something I do not understand: on a a6300 what kind of 18-55 lens is needed? Because looks like sam I and II lenses are not compatible..like what kind of words do I need to type in order to find the compatible 18-55 sony? How much is it used in euros? Can somebody explain please?
@@EliaCanu This is the E lens mount
Let see if it is still oké.
dropped my 16 50 from about 5 ft flat face down onto laminate floor ..ouch front lens popped out . took me a while to sort out reassemble,, and it was out of focus . did a factory reset lens on camera a6000.. all good again ..
perfect, glad that worked out for you, phew!
I bought my a6300 with the 16-50mm. I would like to have the 18-55mm because of that manual controlled fokusring, but I don't have the money to switch.
sell the 16-50 and buy a used 18-55. I found a used 18-55 for under 90 bucks
You can use the zoom ring in the 16-50 as a focus ring if you press the af/mf button
for auto focus which is better?
Thanks!!
honestly about the same, if anything I'd say the 16-50 but so minimal

So after a vacation with 3000 or more photos, you stay in front of the pc a week.
Guardian Observer yes, that is actually very accurate.
Hello, the video autofocus is also fast on both?
they are about the same, the 16-50 may be a bit better
18-55 has same filter size as 50mm 1.8, 20mm 2.8, 28mm f2, 35mm oss.. and many more less common, loke laowa 9mm or 7artisans 55 1.4.
Worth considering imo
a very good point to consider as well if you use filters a lot
Great video dude, I found with the 16-50 that it's very easy to break and the build quality isn't great. Definitely going to invest in the 18-55🙌🏼
yeah the 18-55 is built much better
Is it worth getting the 18-55 for the sony a7sii, seeing as you'll have to use it on aps-c mode? If the sony a7sii has 12megapixels, what will the megapixels be on aps-c mode? I was looking to buy one of these lenses just to have something practical lying around with that kind of range, for location scouting, etc, but am worried that the quality will be much worse...
Nah in aps-c mode youll totally be fine. you wont see a huge drop in resolution. But I would look into the 18-105 f4 possibly if you have the budget
Well the key is being in crop mode in that case, otherwise its not a huge deal
18-55 beats the crap out of 16-50 quality wise....as for the mobility, well it's pretty clear 16-50 is the better choice
you mean build quality? because my 16-50mm copy beats the crap out of 18-55mm in image quality.
i have both and they are very versatile lenses on my nex 5 (original) you do see a little more chromatic aberration with the 16-50 but if you have the right lens profile in LR you can get rid of most of that in post :) you should do a top e-mount picks on lenses !!!
18-55 which f? 3.5? Can I use of course with an a6500 right ?
its an 18-55 3.5 to 4.5 So when you zoom in you get restricted on opening the aperture. Yes this will work with the a6500
great! thanks!
Solid review Eric, truly appreciate it!
Thank you, very welcome!
If i buy a sony that comes with the 16-50, would be wasting money if i buy the 18-55 for the same camera?
Depends how much you're paying for the lens. They're very similar.
@@ChrisOsbyrne in the case that i have a sony nex 5r with 16-50mm and the 18-55 cost me like 60 or 70 bucks
@@caferastas8591 Well today I sold my 16-50 for £60 and got the 18-55 with a Neewer 35mm lens for £50. I swapped because I think the 18-55 is more suited for video than the other.
@@ChrisOsbyrne okey ill keep in mind your comment thanks
I needed this video just got an a6000 with no kit lens and I was debating on this 2 lenses, as far as autofocus speed should be the same in both right?
awesome, yeah they are similar! I'd still go with the 18-55
Eric Rossi specially Me do will be doing video mostly, thanks a lot for the video and your reply
Do you are using the SONY 18-55 Do you keep is great or is not I hope your responded before I take a decision with one I am watching on eBay. thank you.
dont base your decision on what changes and gear I made. Do it for yourself. Its still worth buying if you need a lens in that range no doubt
@@Eric_Rossi After I purchased I agree with you my friend is a good lens better than packet 16-50 mm I got both but I prefer 18-55 mm once again thank you for your video.
Do these lenses have silent motors?
yeah they are pretty quiet
Is there any close focus distance difference between the two of them?
its pretty close, you get more control with the 18 though
Is the 18-55 a Wide Angle Lense?
for the most part, it is yes. Anything under 50mm becomes more wide angle
Hmm ok that's cool. It's a shame there isn't any "vlog" style video tests of the 18mm lense. I do a Pokemon GO series on my channel and I'm trying to get a better wide angle so you can see more of whats going on in my shots instead of just my face which I hate.
Psalm Lab
I used it in a review of the Sony a6300, check that out on my channel
Thanks I'll check it out.
Thanks for the quick reply
im not sure what lens that is. But both of the lenses in this video will work 100%
Elia Canu you need to get the SEL1855. The lens that didn't fit is an A-Mount lens and requires an adapter to be able to mount it on E-Mount cameras.
thank you! That 16mm is also a great prime as well, very sharp!
Thanks a bunch for this video. Needed a kit lens.
glad to help!
Just scored an 18-55 for $104. Next up macro - lemme know if you have any tricks for that. Currently have the 55-210 and 16mm prime
oh easy choice, Sony 30mm. I have a review on this channel with that as well, but its super affordable!
Witch lens would you reccomend me as a start?
whichever one comes with your camera is fine, honestly both are very equivalent
@@Eric_Rossi The thing is that the camera im buying is an already used one, and unfortunately there aren't any lens coming with it. But still, thank you for your reply, it was very usefull!
I had the NEX5N with the 18-55 and I have now the A6000 with the 16-50 and I like the 16-50 better, because it IS smaller AND the wider angle looks better with HDR landscapes.
the iq is the same honestly but both are a great choice. Just depends on your needs!
16-50mm is wider and is the most important advantage, but if you want manual focus lens there are plenty of third party lens you can choose from with greater zoom range.
yeah but 2mm is nothing notable
on wide side, let say 16mm and 18mm it's 12.5% more field of view, however on telephoto end even 20mm difference is nothing notable
that idk about and I'd even argue that 10mm is something more notable. But just how I feel, we can differ
It's funny I've been saying the 18-55 is MUCH better but everyone would argue 'it's not as portable and doesn't have servo zoom'. But I would trade that for the IQ with the 18-55 as I just love the pictures and video quality from the 18-55
that auto electric zoom isnt targeted towards most photographers in my opinion, mainly more hobbyist and parents.
Great review! I just picked up the 18-55 and I think it feels better and perform better than the 16-50.
congrats, enjoy the lens!
This was a VERY useful video. I almost bought the wrong lense.
glad it could help!
My 16-50 manually focuses, not well but it definitely does.
Thanks!!!
anytime!
Aw here in houston is the lens for 82.00. I live in katy
I have both…
Sony may need to re-design standard kit lenses.
My local shop has the 18-55 for only 82 bucks I guess I should grab it then? lol
wow as long as it works lol yeah
haha yeah they are pretty well known for their Used inventory in Houston lol i need a decent cheap video lens so this should do for now! Great video by the way very informative love your videos man.
thank you much appreciated, totally jump on that!
Thanks for your video, is clear and with no mince on your words, different from others reviews wich only celebrate de "goodness" of the 16-50
sel1855 is good for stills but the video auto focus is awful
yeah its not as smooth and is a bit loud
i broke my 16-50 in just a few days so i sold that and bought a 18-55 that is wayyyy better
great call!
I think you’re damaging your lens and camera body by scraping them against concrete.
negative
18-55
18-55 всё-таки немного получше.
