Padcaster Parrot Pro Kickstarter Nightmare | I Regret Backing This Teleprompter

  • I had a nightmare experience as a Kickstarter backer for the new Padcaster Parrot Pro Teleprompter. The product was delayed for almost a year, had some bizarre updates, was sold in retail stores for a cheaper price ahead of the backers, and the final price of the product with shipping was not worth it.
I'll talk about the screen hazing or ghosting problem which I think for the most part was overblown and compare it to my older teleprompter the Desview T3 which is cheaper and higher quality. Overall, I think the product is over prized and kind of absolute since better products have been introduced. It's not a bad product, just doesn't represent the price I paid for it and it's definitely left a bad taste in regards to me ever using Kickstarter again.

good video. Thank you for sharing alternative.
I'm with you on not using kickstarter any more. Super disappointed with how things were handled. Buying a product before it's proven out, is a bad idea. I have learned my lesson.

This sort of thing is why I don't back things on kickstarter any more unless I know the people involved in a more personal way. (Not necessarily in person, but at least hang out with them on a forum, KS doesn't care at all about whether or not these projects succeed after being funded.)

I’ve just received mine, and I’m a bit disappointed as well.
The ghosting is pretty bad, although I find black text on a white background helps this issue.
I wouldn’t have bought it if I had known Elgato were going to release theirs. I did actually buy the Prompter, though, and it’s definitely better than this.
Still, the Parrot Pro is not totally useless, but the delays and hefty shipping costs are unacceptable for what is a mediocre product.

@@TomWadeCine It gets even worse. Last night, I heard a noise while I was in bed. I discovered my Parrot Pro's glass had randomly cracked without me being anywhere near it, and there wasn't even a phone on it.
On reflection, this isn't really surprising because of its design flaws. One of them is having glass that comes directly into contact with your phone, putting pressure on it. This weakens the glass and leads to this issue. I'm sure there'll be many more cases like this.
I've just contacted the company about this, but I'm not optimistic. I'm UK-based, so there's no chance of getting a refund.

I got one. Had to pay shipping as well as import duties which sucked. But it does the job for me. I use a USB to HDMI cable from my phone to an atomos ninja which is clamped to my tripod so I can see the prompter screen when working with clients. I actually love the setup now

@@TomWadeCine but I agree on the quality aspect. Feels flimsy and cheap and no doubt with shatter to bits if it's ever dropped or mishandled

The padcaster Pro ist basically the cheapest “good” and usable teleprompter. I don't know which one would be a more economical solution. I'm happy with mine, but I have neither experience with better teleprompters.

That thing isn't worth the material used to make it. Make it better quality and better designed then sell it or just get rid of it as there is such a thing as bad products that should no longer exist.

Mate, l got mine a few weeks back and literally set it up today and 2 things, one, there is no 72mm thread, not a big deal but for me, the biggest thing and a why l am throwing this piece of crap in the bin, is the ghosting, what an absolute joke, like most of us, waited so long and this is how we are repaid..... 'it's a no from me" ..trashed...!!!

I just got mine a few days ago, and also don't like the ghosting. Also, I emailed them because I haven't been able to import any scripts via Dropbox, even though it is connected. Has anyone else been able to make that work?

I was really looking forward to receiving the Padcaster Pro. Super slow arriving and I'm very disappointed with the quality. Especially the very light weight plastic and the adjustment of the tray that holds the phone. It's very hard to adjust, super sticky no matter how much you loosen the knob and so flimsy. The is probably the fourth time I've been stuck with a very disappointing product from Kickstarter. I'm done with Kickstarter. It's not worth rolling the dice again.

Only stupid people back kickstarter stuff. This monetizes the greed these people have to get a good deal before anyone else... No, wait for the company to finish their sh*t, polish it, get it to stores, check it out and then and then only, if you like it, buy it. Kickstarter is not cheaper. You pay to be the beta tester of an idea and too often get scammed. It was maybe something with good intentions in the beginning, but looks like it's gone pretty wrong. Sad.
