    I'm Irish and from Kilkenny so listen up. 15 players on a team divided into 3 full forward, 3 half forward, 2 midfield, 3 half back, 3 full back and a goalie. Back of the net is worth 3 points and over the bar is one point. You are not allowed to throw the ball, it must be hit with an open hand. Players can run for 4 steps but this game is damn fast so sometimes more. All players are amateur so glory is for home and birthplace and nothing tastes as good as a win for heart and community. Croke Park is the national stadium and seats 83,500 and hundreds more across the country. It is the greatest sport known to man. Enjoy!

      @finity mccarthy Haha! That was in 1901. They compete in 2nd tier Christy Ring(which they did win) which, in turn, allowed them a chance to COMPETE in the senior. Not to mention the fact that all the London players/management are Irish/of Irish descent. The 1901 team was 100% Irish involvement so what's your point?

    I am biased I do admit. I try to watch other sports objectively. I love so many sports but I have never found a sport that measures up to hurling on so many levels. Speed, skill, passion, physicality, honour, tradition, pride, blood and adrenaline. There are no overpaid prima dona's in this game. All amatures who hold down a job and sacrafice so much to play a game they love and all for the love of their club and county. Decendants of celtic warriors risking it all in one incredible spectacle. This is offically the fastest field sport in the world. This is the oldest known team sport on earth. This is the ultimate adventure sport. For me this is simply the greatest sport I have ever had the honour of witnessing. If you are ever in Ireland you should check it out.

      Sad.
      American "football".
      Takes 4 hours to "play" a fucking 60 minute game.
      There is on average ONLY 11 MINUTES OF ACTION!!!
      A bunch of overpaid wankers
      Our hurlers are real Men, do it for their community and their county , and go to work the next Day.
      11 minutes of a crappy version of padded up rugby vs 70 minutes of break neck speed skill and action. No brainer.
      Go back to bed, clown!

    • @seanogcarey
      @seanogcarey  10 лет назад +1

      You can take 4 steps with the ball in your hand and then you must put it on your stick, you cannot throw the ball however yo can handpass which is a to slap the ball to a teammate. You cannot handpass the ball into the goal when you have possession

    • @kayleighc6127

      David O'Neill Ya I agree in some ways, but the game is a lot more skillful now, and it's great watching players like Joe Canning of Galway and Shane Dowling and Kevin Downes of limerick playing. It would be good to see something like the Black card introduced into hurling.

    • @ardrua1504
      @ardrua1504 10 лет назад +1

      MikeOxlong IRE I'm not happy in the least with this "look his way and I'll blow the whistle" style, the GAA hierarchy are interfering too much, these guys who spent more time on the politics side of the pitch than on the pitch itself, maybe helmets might have been a good idea, the game is alot more fast paced these days, and the sliotar is moved from player to player more tactically, I think a ref knows what's what, I think a black card on top of the red and yellow is confusing. Next they'll be sin binning, they need to leave the sport alone, do what they do best and let the players do what they do, sell the game around the world.

    Great to see a variety of teams showcased in this video but to promote a sport and claim it to be the best on earth you need to use the best teams and players as part of this video. The Kilkenny team which won the 4 in a row should of featured more in this considering, debatable, that they are the greatest team ever to enter a hurling pitch. However, good video.

    • @seanogcarey
      @seanogcarey  10 лет назад

      Cheers bud, I think I mainly tried to get the best most outrageous scores in the history of the modern game. As far as the players go I think I got it spot on, its difficult to put one of my hurling heroes JJ Delaney in without much footage and as a defender it doesnt make a great video. I think 90% of the scores were possibly the most important or incredible scores of all time. As for the 4 in a row team (apart from Henry Shefflin's score in the vid) there wasnt as many standout moments of the caliber of say Ciaran Carey's point or John Fenton's goal in my view

    • @SocksRooney2
      @SocksRooney2 10 лет назад

      I see now what you were trying to do with the video. It makes sense now that you tried to compile the best scores! It does make sense that when anyone is promoting a sport they will show the scores rather than general play. Well done sir you have done the sport proud!

    After watching this and Gaelic Football, it's very clear where Australian Rules Football comes from/originated.
    For the Irish - Aussie Rules is like Gaelic Football in play, excepting a smaller rugby style ball, four goal posts (inner pair = goal, outer pairs = point) and marking, the "Specky" - spectacular catch. Otherwise it plays at about the same speed.

    Great to see, just a little confused of the lack of video's from Waterford considering they are traditionally the most Off the Cuff hurling team in the country. May not have won a lot of championships but have produced some of the most exciting hurling over the last 15 years. Very surprised nothing from the Waterford v Cork games for the Munster final's in recent years there was in particular some great skill by Mullane, O'Halipin etc... Other than that fantastic job in putting it together :)

      Its unknown in the UK.Technically NI is in the Uk except for county antrim(only nationalists which are a minority in that county).The game is very much associated with irishness and antibritishness

    As a Cork man I've been lucky to see many great moments, was in the stadium for many of those games but the beating Galway dished out to us that day with Canning's handpass was hard to take, and I know it was at the end of the game but it summed his performance up that day just brilliant
