It's not about the one pushed past all reasonable limits being in the wrong, so much as it's about controlling the narrative. Narcissists love to be the victim; they get sympathy, attention, sometimes gifts, and they can use the narrative they spin to destroy/punish whoever is trying to break free of their control. If they drum up enough support, they can even get other people to do all the dirty work for them. But every story needs a villain, and when someone 'blows up', even for perfectly legitimate reasons, it gives them the opportunity to make them the villain they need. These people aren't introspective, because they already know exactly what they're doing, and are fine with their choices.
The same ppl who call OP an ahole, are the same ppl that would do to OP and others what his ex-wife did to him. Why else would that bother them?
