    I started the sleeves today. I was intimidated because I had never added a foundation chain like this and it took me a couple days thinking about it. We!!, it worked beautifully! I was so happy when both sleeves were added and the pattern matched. Danced around the room like a fool.
    I love your patterns! I made the Sea foam Cardigan too and it came out amazing. I love the unusual start to the row, took me a while to master but it gives such a nice edge.
    My success here is completely due to your careful instructions. I can't read a crochet pattern, I don:'t know why because I understand the abbreviations.
    Thank you! You are very talented!

I can’t lie, it upsets me when others take work and don’t credit the actual creator. Anyway, thanks for sharing this pattern, it’s on my to do list lol

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  3 года назад

      Hi. If you want to use a #3 weight yarn instead of a #4 weight yarn, you would have to alter the pattern to do so. Since it would be difficult to match the pattern gauge when using a thinner yarn than the pattern calls for, you would need to either alter the pattern repeats quite a bit, or make a larger size at a smaller gauge. I hope this helps!

    Love this project and just may have similar yarn I can use. One thing, I do like to finish the edges even with a narrow band, so I may try to add a narrow (3 inch) one around the opening and on the sleeves. I'll see how ambitious I get. Thank you so much for your detailed tutorial.

    • @irmar
      @irmar 4 года назад

      Yes, it will look much better and "finished" in my opinion. Three inches is a bit too wide though? It's 7,5 centimeters. Especially for the front. It will become like a shawl collar (not that it's a bad thing). But, now that I think of it, this band will allow you to put buttons, which is cool.

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  Год назад

      Hi Diana. This stitch pattern is a multiple of 12 stitches. So when the pattern tells you to add the extra chains for the sleeve, you can add 12, 24, or 36 to the number of chains given in the pattern for the size you are making. I hope this helps!

    How can I adjust the pattern to make the sleeves long? Thank you!

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  Месяц назад +1

      Hi. The width for the sleeves is added on Row 9, where the Upper Back portion of the pattern begins. The instructions for Row 9 reads as follows:
      Row 9: Starting with new yarn, ch 24. Turn the work so the back of the last row is facing you. Dc in first st, 2 dc in nxt ch-sp. *Ch 2, sk 2, dc in nxt 6 sts, ch 2, sk 2, 2 dc in nxt ch-sp.* Repeat from *to* until 1 st remains. Dc in last st, ch 26.
      When the pattern says to chain 24 at the beginning of the row, that adds stitches for the sleeve on one side. Then, when it says to chain 26 at the end of the row, that adds the stitches for the sleeve on the other side.
      The stitch pattern used in this project is a multiple of 12 stitches. So when the pattern tells you to add the extra chains for the sleeve, you can add 12, 24, or 36 chains to the number of chains given in the pattern to lengthen the sleeve however much you want. So for instance, if you decide to add 24 extra stitches to the width of the sleeve, you would chain 48 (24+24) at the beginning of the row, and chain 50 (26+24) at the end of the row.
      The instructions for the following row are written for the exact number of stitches that would be in the row if you followed the pattern as written without lengthening the sleeves. However, once you get to this point in the pattern, you may be familiar enough with the stitch pattern to continue the stitch pattern through the row. If you need any help with Row 10 when you get there, just let me know and I will be happy to provide more specific instructions.

    Confused! Yess I am making this cardigan. I have completed row 11(5-8). Rt after this you say repeat stitches 5-8 again before I start 3-8 several X according to my size
    Question is after I have completed stitch#8 there is no way I can do another row of 5-8 after completing stitch 8. Stitch 5 starts, dcst same st, dc4st

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  3 года назад +1

      Hi Carol! I am assuming you're on the Upper Back portion of the instructions. Rows 9 and 10 are adding the extra stitches needed for the width of the sleeves. Rows 9 and 10 are modified versions of Rows 3 and 4, so if you repeat Rows 5-8 once according to the instructions after working Rows 9 and 10, the stitch pattern will flow smoothly. However, you cannot repeat Rows 5-8 more than once, or that will disrupt the stitch pattern. The pattern only says to repeat Rows 5-8 once here so as not to disrupt the stitch pattern. Does that help? Please let me know if you have any more questions!

    I wanted to ask about the yarn. Does the name of the yarn imply that it is a z twisted yarn as the opposite is the s twist? The z twist in a yarn doesn’t unravel and is less likely to split unlike the s twist does.

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  2 года назад

      Hi Louise. Yes, this yarn has a z twist rather than an s twist, but it is now discontinued. I would recommend substituting another summer-garment-friendly worsted weight yarn. I have a guide on choosing yarns for summer garments here: yayforyarn.com/best-yarns-summer-garments/ I hope this helps!

    I couldnt find how many foundation stitches to make for size 2

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  10 месяцев назад

      In the instructions for the cardigan back, the number of foundation stitches for each size is given in the Row 1 instructions. Row 1 ends with a total of 100 (124, 148) foundation single crochet stitches. If you are making Size 2, then you'll follow only the second number in that list, which is 124. So you will need to start with 124 foundation stitches for Size 2. I hope this helps!

    • @YayForYarn

      If you want the sleeves to be deeper (from armhole to shoulder), you can repeat rows 3-8 of the upper back an extra time and repeat rows 3-8 of the right front and left front an extra time in the sleeve area. I hope this helps!

      Hi Maxine! In the written pattern, the numbers for size 2 and size 3 are given in the parentheses, right after the number for size 1. So the pattern says to work a total of 100 (124, 148) sts, which means for size 1, you'll work a total of 100 sts, for size 2, you'll work 124, and for size 3, you'll work 148. I hope this helps!

      When you get to the instructions that say "Upper Back", on Row 9, it says, "Starting with new yarn, ch 24." To make the sleeve less wide, only chain 12 instead. Then, at the end of Row 9, it says to ch 26. Instead, chain only 14. This will make the sleeves less wide on your cardigan. I hope this helps!

    Sorry to be a pain, but do you have a knitted equivalent, like with the sea foam and coral cardigans? Thanks :)

    Is the gauge still the same if you use light yarn?

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  Год назад

      Hi. No, the gauge will not be the same if you use a #3 Light yarn. This pattern calls for a #4 Medium yarn, and I do not recommend using a different yarn weight unless you feel comfortable altering patterns. I hope this helps!

    Where is the pattern for the large size? Been all over the page to find it!

      Hi Nell. Since this cardigan is designed to be very oversized and loose-fitting, this pattern comes in 3 size groups. Size 1 fits sizes X-Small, Small, and Medium. Size 2 fits sizes Large, X-large, and 2X, and Size 3 fits sizes 3X, 4X, and 5X. For whichever size you would like to make, you'll need to visit the first link in the video description to view the free version of the written pattern on my blog. (Under the video title, just below the video player, there should be a bit of text that says "See More". Click on "See More", and it will open the video description so you can see the link. Once you're on the pattern page, just scroll down to read through the pattern. All of the info on sizing is there, as well as all of the written instructions and information needed to make all of the sizes. I hope this helps!
