There are some errors in this video. Borg never won the Australian Open. Also, he lost the final at Wimbledon against McEnroe in 4 sets, and the footage is from the year before (1980). Facts are important in this context.
@@morganclare4704 That's not true. Mistake in the Video. He only played it once and lost in the 3rd round in 1974. The Australian Open wasn't a big deal back then
Mac was indeed getting Borg's number on fast courts but no way would Mac have beaten him on clay or slow surfaces. You might be onto something though as Mac rarely got far enough into clay tournaments for Borg to balance the act, so to speak. Had he played on, all we would have seen were losses to Mac as they only tended to meet on faster, Mac friendly surfaces.
Borg only played the Aussie Open once - in 1974. Why? Because the Aussie Open had fallen into irrelevance in those days. Few gave a damn about it in those days. During Borg's career, the AO was played at Kooyong Stadium. Kooyong was a joke. The Kooyong grass courts were horribly maintained and the stadium itself had fallen into disrepair. Jimmy Connors only played the AO 2 times (1974 & 1975). McEnroe didn't play the AO until 1988 when the event was finally moved from pathetic Kooyong to the wonderful site its played at to this day (Melbourne Park). Look at who won the AO in the mid-to-late 1970s and early 1980s: Mark Edmonson, Brian Teacher, Roscoe Tanner, Johan Kriek... Not exactly Hall of Famers. Edmonson was actually working as a janitor in Australia when he entered and won the AO.
I was just going to say some of that! I giggle when Chris Evert says nobody used to go to Australia and that's why Margaret Court won si many titles. It's the least GS I enjoy.
The AO had nowhere the prestige back then that it has now. Few of the top players were willing to travel so far down under. Flinders Park did not even exist then. Kooyang was little more than a cow pasture. That's why Borg didn't win there. Plain and simple, he didn't go. It would be different if he competed and lost each year. Learn your tennis history
Well, the real problem was he married. In fact, he married down and set himself up for "family court". Poor guy never had a chance because he believed the lies of a selfish woman! He opened his life to the corrupt family law system.
I switched off after 22 seconds, when you mentioned "Borg WAS a living legend". Actually, I can't stand these amateur videos, accompanied by non fact checked statements and I wish, RUclips would just ban them. Go and tell your gossip to your children, or some drunk at the local bar, because you have zero idea, why Borg retired and are just after money from RUclips. Disliked and moved on

Yes, he only played Australia once and lost in the 3rd round. The Australian Open just wasn't a big deal for players back then.
Good, but a few corrections... the Wimbeldon loss was in 1981, the custody battle was about his first son, Robin
Bjorn was just a really nice person
He wanted his life back
He didn't say the real reason borg retired at 26 , he was burned out , and borg never won the Aussie open he didn't like to travel that far ,
HE WON 2! cheers

He only played it once. The one he tried and couldn't win was the US Open.
Many players at the time wanted to be home with the family at christmas , therefore skipping AO.
factually incorrect - he never won the Australian Open once, let alone twice. I stopped watching after that,
It also said he lost in the early rounds of Wimbledon in 82 when he didnt play , and lost in 5 sets in the 81 Wimbledon final when it was 4
Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus.
I think he only played in the Aussie Open once in '74.
Beautifully produced short documentary.
Wishing you much success.
Cheers!

The untold story is Bjorn realized he couldn't beat John McEnroe, and second best just wasn't his thing.

Enjoyed it, but not an untold story. A story told again and again lol
Aust Open never won one.

Very interesting. Thanks
how many grand slams did you win?

Lot of factual inaccuracies in this one.
How can you put up a video with so many inaccuracies? Need to do better research if you want to be credible
sorry Borg NEVER won the Australian Open
Apology accepted
@@forehandfrenzy 5 Wimbledons in a row and 6 French Open titles
Borg never won the Australian Open. Very sloppy research.
He only played it once - when he was 17. A lot of people didn't play Australia back then. It was at the end of the year around Christmas.
in short, you told us nothing
in short, you told us you didn't watch the video

Another correction... Borg only played the Australian Open once and he did not win, so no Australian Open titles
Two Australian Open titles? Embarrassing to get the basics so wrong.
Lots of wrong facts and mistakes. Extremely poor documental. Really disappointed. Complete bullshit.
Documental???! Idiot
Allegedly he was an addict and in a toxic relationship with his ex wife
