For this contest I really wanted to choose a song that I really have a connection with, so I covered Never Forget (Midnight Version) from Halo 4! I spent endless nights playing Halo 3 as a kid, and this song means a lot to me. I wanted to make this arrangement as dynamic and as moving as the original composition (hence the big differences in volume). I hope you enjoy it!

I tracked 6 and 7 string guitar, 5 string bass, and I used a bunch of software (listed below) to program the rest of the instruments (strings included) because I play djent so what else am I gonna do
Hardware used:
- 6: Ibanez RGsomethingsomething (3EX1?) with a Seymour Duncan set
- 7: Schecter Damien Elite 7 with BK Juggernauts
- Bass: Ibanez SR505
- Distorted tones: AVID Eleven Rack
- Camera: Canon T3i
Software used:
- Drums: NI Studio Drummer
- Synths + Piano: Massive and some other NI VSTs (Heavyocity Evolve)
- Strings: Cinematic Strings 2
- DAW: Cubase 7
- Video Editing: Premiere Pro 6

This is Halo. This is nostalgic... Actually brought a tear to my eye. Reminds me of Halo 2's soundtrack, and makes me feel like a kid again. This is the kind of music we need from 343. This is what we need in infinite.

Literally brought back a good sense of nostalgia from 2012 back when I was truly happy when I had less problems back when Halo is still Halo before 2015 it all ended thank you for making this song even more epic it nearly brings tears out of me for something i miss so much and cherished the most rip halo 2001-2015 over and out.

For real though, this is insanely well produced and the arrangement riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiips. It sounds HUGE. Absolutely blown away! Also I really need me an ebow dangit. Literally everything I try and write has an ambient thing to it so that would be the best lil' toy to have haha
Thank you dude! I'm glad you liked it! I love the ebow, it's so good for ambient lines, and there's a setting that brings out natural harmonics that's really great for shifting and evolving notes. Great investment!
Maaaaaan, it sounds like something I should've had for my cover. Went 50% black metal with it. Has loads of ambient background drones but it's all just a super reverby tone that I'm more or less trem picking the entire time. Judging by how it sounds it could've brought a lot more out in those parts. Definitely going to make the investment when payday arrives!

Growing up with Halo, this track was probably my favorite in any of the OSTs. I never could have imagined how it would sound in a metal cover. Fantastic arrangement man, brings back a lot of good times haha!

Dude I was going to play halo 3 but my guitar didn't have enough frets.
Dang this is pretty amazing dude you did an outstanding job.
IMO I would've loved to hear you use the ebow to do the same harmonies your strings are doing at 2:10. You introduced the distorted guitars before hand and I think it would've helped transition into the next time your guitars came in. It's a minor touch but golly. Outstanding mix nonetheless!
I definitely hear you, that would have been cool! I kind of wanted to use the ebow to produce ambient notes that match the chord progressions without switching to different notes, if that makes sense. It's a really cool little thing, so I've definitely gotta keep messing with it to see what sounds best. Thanks so much for your advice!
(For instance, I didn't realize you could adjust the power of the vibration by moving it away or towards the pickups until I started recording the video lol)
I had no idea haha, I plan to get one one day cause of definitely could come in handy to write some lines that fill out the song better than picking them haha

Yeah exactly! I used to just speed pick and add a ton of reverb and echo, and that can still work in some places, but this is so much better for ambient stuff. It was a little pricey, but I'll definitely be using it a ton.
