Love these videos so much. Perfect blend of knowledge, story-telling, and personal touches. I loved the final scene of you walking to the Thai restaurant. I could sense the relief and satisfaction you must have felt after conquering the day. Well done, my man!
Pad Thai saved the day.
And thanks for noticing. I’m trying to make it educational but also entertaining. Glad to hear it’s being well received.
What’s also funny is the difference in the energy of my voice on site at the beginning vs the end. I’m way more tired. And usually the voiceover is filmed after where I’m even more tired haha
Highly recommend you find a good gaffer and a good AC to work with. It will bring your work to a much higher level. Rigging your camera is not something you should be concerned with, your AC will do that for you. Tell them how you want it set up and they will get it going for you. Same with the lighting plan, a gaffer will bring it to life. Be a "Director of Photography" not a I do everything guy. Trust me, you will be less stressed and have more mental capacity to put into the image. I know how it can be when the budgets are low but at the very least have a grip or assistant with you.
Yeah when I have an assistant it really helps with the mundane tasks. I’d love to get into higher level shoots with dedicated AC’s and gaffers. But like you said, finding those budgets can be hard.
@@davidmorefield for sure man you will get there. keep up the great work.
@Capture Project One that seems like the logical next choice. I do a lot of 2 cam interviews so I want to make it as easy as possible on the editor.
Sounds real lazy to me
@@RobertMoraleslv What sounds lazy?
Depending on the project, I like to tell clients it takes 1 to 2 hours from arrival Until we can start recording their interview.
That gives me plenty of time from loading my gear onto a cart and getting it inside and setup/tested.
Load out is definitely less. 30-45min.
Good way to push through the negative road blocks , still showing up and executing !
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Setup definitely takes much longer. I enjoy the process of breaking down. It's quite therapeutic.
That’s interesting. But I do agree it’s nice to know everything is nearly put away.
Unless the client is waiting for you to pack up so they can leave the site or transfer footage.
Tight package brother! Sure does look complete. Being a solo operator is gonna be so much more of a a breeze for you now. The goal is always to have your equipment be an extension of your creativity and not a separate entity. “You’re kit is working for you”.
Definitely breakdowns are slower than setups for me. Solely because I find myself re-processing the shoot and visualizing the final edit before the editing process.
Awesome video as usual. Keep blazing.
Trying to keep it extra breezy haha
I love the rig.
Yeah, that post-shoot headspace is usually wild. So many things going on in your head.
Dude! love how you dialed in the FX6. So efficient and well thought out. Great stuff!!!
Been scheming this thing up for awhile and it’s really living up to expectations.
Really great solution for your pre-built rig!
Look at studio monitor headphones with the coiled cable (sony and AT make really good sub $100 ones), they can stretch and wont pull on your camera. They were a game changer on set for me!
I’m sure they are better quality but I just like the ease of use of earbuds. Easy to put on and off and take up no space.
Thank you for the suggestion though.
@@davidmorefield I totally agree with you about the ease of earbuds: less fatigue, less heat, less space!
I dug a little bit further and realized that "coiled 3.5mm extension cables" are already a thing. I think that I will switch to this solution with earbuds myself. Funny how that works out.
@@user-f5xt2op9t haha good to know
You will be fine without a c stand. I have some that sit in my basement. I love your videos. It’s great to see real work instead of just gear reviews by people that sit at desks and coffee shops.
Bro I’m saying. That stuff gets annoying. I want to see how the gear performs in the real world.
You have literally mastered the art of efficiency my man!
The faster I can operate, the better shots I can get.
Nice content dude, I appreciate it as a one man band myself.
Of course man! I enjoys watching others bts as well. Always something to learn.
I can totally relate to the obsession/searching/changing and then satisfaction when getting the right parts for the rig!
I keep seeing that skateboard in your trunk, show some tricks bro! 😀
It is a satisfying moment of peace.
Haha maybe I can incorporate it somehow.
Love this style of content mate keep it up, perfect balance. FX6 rig looking great!
Thanks man. I’m having fun with it!
loving the rig and how efficient you are with your gear!
Efficiency is the name of the game.
Love these keep them coming!
Will do 🫡🫡
Awesome... Thanks. Loved the drive home portion. You were that guy. LOL !
Florida man strikes again.
When I wanna switch from 24p to 60p I use te s&q button. If you need b rool slow motion thats the best option.
Yes, super fast. Love that.
Oh man! Flat tires suck! Loving your rig and that bag! Regarding changing frame rates - I have the Sony A7siii and it has a dial that you can set to whatever you want. I have #1 set to my normal 24 fps settings (including recording settings), #2 for 60p and #3 for 120p. Since the Fx 6 is almost the same camera - I would expect that you can set the buttons on the left side, under the S&Q button in a similar way. Check it out, I might be right (or, wrong!)
The problem is the camera actually has to reboot which takes about 5 seconds. The alpha cams don’t have to do that so it’s way faster.
Congrats on the rig. Looks awesome
Thanks man. It’s performing really well.
Idk if you do any OTS (we do - it's great for quick broll) but if you do, I highly suggest the smallrig VCT-14 with the SmallRig Shoulder Pad Pro 2837B ... super efficient and affordable ;)
Setups are slower for me because I consider positioning the lighting and finding composition, repositioning the lighting .etc. longer than simply breaking down the gear.
I need to look into that. Not sure if I want to add a pad rn though.
Yeah, I feel you on fine tuning the image and lighting. Sometimes you just have to set up extremely fast!
Nice video. Interesting to see how you set up your camera, and what that means for client relations/focus. Also interview shoots take significantly longer to set up than break down for me cause always fine tunings things/trying to figure out what the best angle is, level for the lights, scanning wireless channels etc. Breakdown just focuses on where things go, and what makes sense to pack up first.
Totally agree with the fine tuning part.
Definitely nice to use dummy batteries, but I would suggest keeping one or two batteries for your monitor just incase the dummy battery stops working during a shoot. It happened to me once and had to replace it but luckily I had some npfs with me when it happened.
True. I actually keep the stock lcd in case anything happens with the cable or external monitor. You never know.
Would be nice if you can create a video on how you get your clients
You’re in luck!

Haha I take forever packing up unless there’s a real rush to get out. I really like taking time to make sure every cable, piece of kit, makes its way into the right spot. On some larger productions, where the gear isn’t personally owned (belongs to a large production company), I see crew poorly wrapping cables, throwing gear in the wrong bins, packing the truck wrong, just to get out 30-40 mins earlier… it drives me crazy.
Yeah, that’s always tough. Even in small scale crews where the assistant doesn’t know how you organize it.
Unpack > Pack up
All day everyday
Strong words 😁
You are located in Orlando? Crazy I’m located there too! Love to see another cinematographer 🫡
Join us in the next Orlando Filmmaker Breakfast on Feb 22! I’ll post an announcement on my IG. Link in description
I’ll definitely check it out !
@@dillondre So the date got switched. I'm partnering with another member. It's a limited seat venue. So I'll see if there's any additional spots available!
Another banger ! Great job, really can't wait to build my fx6 so i can earn more money to buy a komodo hahah
Haha why the Komodo?
@@davidmorefield just because i think it's a great camera for narrative work like short films I'd have the Fx6 for corporate and doc and komodo for short films :)
Packing up takes longer for me. People talking to you and while doing it lol
The key is to able to do both at the same time. Or have an assistant do it 🙌🏻
with using the small hd you loose the touch functionality for choosing the focus point. Do you miss that?
Can’t say that I do. I really only use af for faces. So I select face priority or face only.
Takes me longer to put stuff away haha
Me too 😂
What boom do you use for your mic? Do you like it? It's a piece I'm missing in my kit.
Hey man, I like this one bc it folds into itself. Here's my affiliate link if you choose to purchase on amazon. amzn.to/3DlskGI I've owned it for a year and never had problems.
Bro love your Vids Quick question. What part do you have connected between the sled and the monitor?
It’s the “alphatron adapter for smallhd monitors. It came with my unit.
@@davidmorefield You made a next-level rig. I'm looking for the smallhd 703 brights but they are super hard to find.
@@carl0sC my 502 bright was hard to find as well. So I put an eBay alert for the keywords “502 bright” and it alerted me when a listing popped up and I bought it immediately.
Do you have a feed hoing from your camera to the Ipad or are they just seeing his performance from the iPad camera?
Reason I ask is because I was connected with a company that asked for a similar setup and I don't have a laptop but I do have an iPad!
@@CarlosHerriottII correct, they are just looking through the iPad camera. However I would like to provide them the camera feed in the future. I just need to figure it out. I know it’s not hard.
what microphone stand do you use to boom the overhead mic?
It’s from Impact. Bought it on bh
Dont have to waste time switching frame rates if you use the S&Q mode
I like including audio for the editor.
@@davidmorefield definitely the only drawback to s&q mode.. no slow mo audio.. I guess they only had B roll in mind with that setting
@@memphismadetez but the fx3 can do it haha crazy
Man, I want a SmallHD for their false color alone. So much easier to read face exposure. I've screwed up a few times on the C70 by misidentifying middle gray. Question ... because you use a locked-off camera for interviews, what rules of composition do you employ? I'm never sure how to frame the torso because some people speak with their hands ... and do so at different height relative to their waists. Nothing worse than having hands half-in the frame.
I actually don’t like the framing of the last interview since it shows his belly. I should of zoomed in more.
Normally I just put them on a 1/3 of the image and have their eye line look across the other 2/3rds. Bottom of the chest to a bit above the head. Leave some head room. Keep their eyes near the top horizontal third.
noticed you blurred the client logo in the first shot, but then in the reverse shot it was visible. fyi.
Bruh, thank you for bringing that to my attention. I’ll go in and blue it. Thank goodness for RUclips Studio.
@@davidmorefield 💪🏾
Are you gonna be keeping the C70?
Yes, definitely for now. It’s an amazing camera. Especially for gimbal.
However, in the future if I stop getting canon requests then I might trade it for an fx3. But I hate that it doesn’t have nd.
So with the boom mic, Do you use a C stand to setup the boom mic or do you use something like a light stand to set up? Need to know this because I have some big interviews coming up helping a friend.
I use this! Much lighter than a C-stand and it folds into itself. If it's possible, please use this link to purchase. I definitely would add a sandbag though.
amzn.to/3RadEzL
@@davidmorefield Thank you so much
How are you able to use the FX6 without the original monitor?
I connect my monitor via sdi. You don’t need to use the oem one. It sends the On Screen Display so you can operate it like normal.
That makes sense @@davidmorefield cheers.
Wow.....How did you blow your tire out?
By procrastinating getting new tires 😒
you had your whitebalans at 4500 why not 5500? which means daylight
In mixed lighting scenarios, it’s common split the difference.
Is that the Shimoda DV roller or the carry on roller v2?
Just added the link in the description!
I own the same tripod.. But mine doesn't do that?
I only purchased the head and added it to an old set of legs. I don’t even know what brand they are.
@@davidmorefield That's the GH06 head, right? I own the same one.
@@brandonmrsh correct! I have a link to it in my description. It’s a crazy good fluid head for the money. Beat one I’ve owned. However I only purchased the head and attached it to an old set of legs that I own.
Treat your vehicle like your kit.
Wise words. It needs a good wash too.
Just got it back from the shop. 4 new tires and an alignment.
Is the fact that the c70 only does rf lens a reason why you went with the fx6?
Not at all. It accepts EF. All my lenses are ef. I even use ef lenses on my Sony. But I like that Sony has a singular mount. I just added links to all the gear I use, in the description.
@@davidmorefield for sure, you ever make it out to arizona for shoots? The scene is growing here
@@TimandLauren Actually, I've never been. What are you working on out there?
pseudo sport car but no money to buy tires hhhh
Who said no money???
