To Jordan ands Kaylee: I know in my heart, you'll never read this comment, but, I'm old. 75, single, and I've followed you two for a long time. You two have come a long way together. I searched my entire life, to have a connection/relationship like you two have. I'm excited for you two, and a bit depressed for my path, but I just want you to know that what you have is GOLDEN! Don't take a millisecond of it for granted!!!!

They most likely will read your note. I'm Jordan's dad and I know my son takes a lot after me. I've taught him to work his butt off, but at the same time to appreciate the ones who appreciate him. Jordan and Kaylee are listening to you. I hope you're enjoying their journey as much as I do. They're pretty awesome..

Go buy wire ties with the loops already on them. They come in packs of 1000. The only purpose of the tie is to position rebar until the concrete sets. Do things the easy way now, because you have a lot to do! That's gonna be a great house!

When my husband built our first house he spent about two weeks every night sertting our corners of the foundation and I got a bit grumpy about let’s get started. I never forgot what he said, this foundation is one of the most important things we have to settle now before we go any further because once we start building it cannot be changed. As we continued I soon realized just how important it was that the foundation has to be perfect. So do it right now or you will be having more problems later. Good Luck. You have built some beautiful bldgs so far so you will do fine❤

Machine sewing is a great skill to take up. So many uses. My Grandma taught me to sew in 7th grade. From that point on I always made my own bedroom curtains as I moved from house to house with my dad’s USAF assignments. Later as an adult, I kept making the curtains for every house we moved to in my husband’s 30 year Air Force career. I tried to teach my daughter just the basics but she wasn’t interested. But our son learned in 8th grade and he’s still sewing Copley outfits for the conventions he goes to. He has not been sewing his own curtains though as he’s now moving around in his AF career, but there’s hope! LOL

Use saddle ties for the rebar. it will totally strengthen your cages. It's just an industry engineered way of tying the bar, but it works.
You only need to do the tie wire saddle ties intermittently. It's a Rod busters anchor for tying bar.

I have not ever given the two of you the credit you deserve. You are the only vloggers that I watch on a permanent basis that got your priorities correct. The almost second you guys found out Sadie was coming you put income first before anything else. Your coffee stand came first then a good supply for it. Then came improvements to your living space. Then came tea now finally your home. I have watched what positive vibes that you put out and with each comes a bounty back. I only pray that you don't leave Sadie a only child. You are such great parents don't limit yourself to one and done... It is entirely up to you because Sadie is such a well rounded child but she will never have companion ship of another child made by you after you are gone. I guarantee you already have contingencies set up Jordan that is what truly keeps you up at night. You just don't want to admit it to yourself. Keep up the good work guys see u Sunday. Also go on another weekend trip checking on new products. It is never to early to get ahead of competition. Plus it is a good stress remover even for a short weekend trip. ❤❤😊

I poured the foundation for my house in 1981 at the age of 20. We used two 10 yard loads of con mix, 120ea 90lb sacks of cement and two cement mixers. There were six of us mixing and pouring. We started at 6:00AM and finished at 8:30PM. Still ranks up there in the top ten hardest working days of my life.

What an interesting video! I moaned when you said the measurements were off, but you took it in stride. That was amazing watching your crew set those pillars! They really are something!! Good luck with your new sewing machine, Kayleigh!! You are going to love it! Sadie will have fun watching and learning! When she is a little older, she will be able to make things, too. If they have cardboard sewing pieces available, she can sew those while you sew on the machine. If you can’t find them, make your own for her. Draw an animal shape on cardboard, cut out, punch an even amount of holes around the edge, thread a needle with yarn, leave a tail at the beginning for tiring off, and sew up and down in the holes going all the way around. Tie off with the two tails to finish! The best needle for her little hands would be one that is used for sewing knitted pieces together. They are plastic with a large eye…and not sharp. She can color the cardboard and add eyes for her animal! Love from Pennsylvania 💕🌷🐻

The next baby was a boy so I challenged myself to putting zippers in little boy clothing and one Easter I made him a three piece suit and a shirt. I was so proud of that suit. .y daughter go a beautiful blue satin dress that year for Easter. Satin is not easy to sew. Takes special needles for the sewing machine. Good luck.

Why don’t you tack-weld the rebar since you have a welder? Would it take longer than using the wire? 😊 Suggestion - line up 10 rebar sticks that has been cut for the column squares next to each other, get some sort of paint and mark the bend measurement on all of them by making a line across. That way you can quickly bend them and don’t have to stop and measure each one.
Great teaching Sadie the joy of giving what she does not need to kids to have less. Lesson for life! 💕

My grandmother was a genuine tailor with her shop 1930’s thru 1950’s. This led me to periodically fantasize that I had inherited her gift. I would go through these sewing periods in my 20’s & 30’s that were always a disaster. I finally came to terms with my lack of sewing talent in my 40’s. Instead I turned to making jewelry which it turns out I’m quite good at. If your sewing is unsuccessful you might find that your talent lies in a different craft.

Fold the wire in half over the hook and keep this loop on the hook while you drop the ends down the back side of the join to be made.
Bend the tails together under the join and up the front and over the hook again in front of the join so you now have three loops on the hook and the doubled wire around the join. Spin. Done. Pre cut your wires once you know how long you like it.

You can make your own wire twister that will do what you want with the doubled over wire. A 4 inch piece of metal with a hole drilled in it on one end. Imagine like a carpenters pencil shaped almost with the hole slightly more in diameter than the 2 wires so you can feed them through. They make small versions for twisting t post fence wires. You feed the loose wire ends through the hole then stick the other end through the looped end of the wire and twist. Probably speed wise same as the pliers but easier on the hands and wrists

As long as you get the four corners square the rest can be 3 inches off the center line and still not loose much strength. Your house will never move. Good luck with it all. Take Care George and Jenny

We made a square wooden box with long handles to the correct dimensions so we could fill 3 times or so with sand and rock and easily 2 people could pick it up and dump into the mixer. We always used the 5 gallon bucket (cubo) to measure out the right amount of water into the mixer FIRST! We built a 2 story large structure this way. We also had a LARGE wooden box built so that we could keep the mixer crew keeping ahead of the need for cement.

Concrete is what you are making when you mix cement. sand, aggregate (stone) and water. You are doing what you need to do to get the psi you need. The concrete mix sold in the states is the mix of all those ingredients, sans water, that will work for small residential projects. You are doing a lot of hard work, for sure, but you know you are hitting the necessary psi with your "recipe!"

Jordan you want to make that concrete not so wet. You'll lose the strength you need to Port a little bit drier. I don't know if you know anything about slump that looked like about a 9 or 10-in slump which we called soup. If you make it about a six or seven which is still wet, but at least you'll have consistency and strength. Try to dry it up before you pour it in. You might need to get a vibrator as well. That would help you tremendously😮

The foundation is key! Building in Cocle. Did foundation 12yrs ago, 5'+ with 5/8" rebar, unles hit solid rock, then drilled into rock 3' min for rebar. House has over 100k worth of concrete & core filled block at base of mtn & not sinking at all. Got pics as sent $ from states. Over 3k sqft with 1600sqft to go as we speak. No ac, high ceiling & fans, insulating as we install ceiling

I don't know about down in Panama but here in Canada you can buy the twisted wire already set up with the loops and home Depot has it in boxes with the rebar is pretty much the only wire that is sold to construction sites now for tying rebar here except for the automatic rebar tying guns that are sold. I'm not sure what they use but those things are pretty slick. I think most major tool manufacturers make one now

Please invest in Aviation safety wire pliers. They are long skinny pliers that lock then you pull the rod on the end and the entire plier spins to twist the wire. Those of us in Aviation add a bearing to the end that makes retracting the end faster and easier.

If you go on RUclips and look up how to use your wire twister you will find out how much easier and faster it is. There are also cordless wire tie machines if you want to spend the money. You can always sell them when your done.

Great job! Things are moving along and you’re getting it. I’m so glad Kaylee got her sowing machine. I can’t wait to see what she makes and how she inspires me! I bought two sewing machines last summer at garage sales, at separate times. One I couldn’t pass up and was a really nice one for someone who makes home-made bed spreads from scratch. It had never been opened and was only $25 USD, original cost $165. The other was a small Singer for $15 USD and it doesn’t look like it cost more than $100. I haven’t tried either one because I jumped on a jet plane to Bali for most of the winter. When I get back to AK it’s going to be really cold so I need some projects to work on. I had been thinking about what I could do to stay busy…besides attending workout classes. My other thought was to crochet!!!!

I haven't read all the comments... Just two thoughts, get the wire ties with the loops... much less work... And just check that your concrete mix isn't to wet, The more water the weaker the strength. Oh and the purpose of the wire ties is to just hold the rebar in place, it's not necessary to tie every intersection of rebar pieces.

I agree with buying wire ties with loops already in them.
But what I would do next is take your hand drill and attach a hook onto the end (instead of a drill bit) and use that to twist the wires…
It couldn’t get much easier than that…

It's a lot of work it's your passion project it's your home sweet home It's exciting to imagine what it will look like when it's done ...i'm not an expert in concrete at all but I usually seem them vibrate or shake out the air in the concrete so i googled it i didn't see it happen and maybe you don't have to but just for safety measures becaues it is holding up and entire house too ...Yes, you should almost always vibrate concrete when pouring a foundation, as vibration is crucial for properly consolidating the concrete, removing trapped air, and ensuring a strong, uniform structure with minimal voids; this is considered a standard practice in construction and is often mandated by building codes.
Key points about vibrating concrete for foundations:
    Benefits:
Vibration helps to push the concrete into all corners of the form, eliminating honeycombing and ensuring a solid bond with reinforcement bars.
    When to vibrate:
Always vibrate concrete for foundations unless you are using a self-compacting concrete mix designed to flow freely without needing vibration.
    Important considerations:
Over-vibration: Avoid over-vibrating, as it can cause segregation of concrete components.
Proper technique: Use a suitable vibrator based on the concrete mix and foundation size, and move it systematically throughout the pour.
Check local codes: Always consult local building codes to ensure compliance regarding concrete vibration requirements.

Hi Jordan and Kaylee, I’m a long time follower and came in a little late on the foundation digging.
I’m retired from construction now, but noticed you didn’t set 2x4 battle boards at the four corners to square the footprint of the building, before digging the foundation. That would have given you a square corner reference from the groundwork all the way through the construction process. It might be still be helpful to install them now to keep the building square for the rest of the buildout. You set two opposite 2x4 corner Ls first and then the other two Ls, using the string method you use now. As the building progresses you always will have a square reference point
    Hope this is helpful, Richard

      @Richard-g2c2d 5 дней назад

Forgot to say that the battle boards should be set about 2-3ft back from the corners and level across the corners. There are RUclips videos on setting battle boards.

i would try to streamline the process of things... like if you have 10,000 bars to bend... stack them on the table in piles of 50.. so you're not walking to pick one up.. and then drop them behind the table so you're not walking to stack them... the ties i'd probably just wrap it around 4 times and feed the end under the last loop... the concrete i'd be using that skid steer to load everything.. build a strong wood funnel the length of the bucket... then dump it back into the skid steer bucket.. use a trough to pour it... point is when you have to do something a lot it makes sense to make templates and guides and streamline processes.. there's no rush i guess but it might save your sanity

But my love and sewing or creating was just getting good and now 🤦🏻‍♀️ who knows where I’ll have to go to get a selection so sad 😢
