Watching you shoot that rifle is giving me “Quigley Down Under” nostalgia. And that’s one of my favorite Tom Selleck movies.
I just watched it for the 150th time the other day lol
Or - Unforgiven.
Gotta love Morgan Freeman, too.👍👍👍
I once got to fondle (with gloves) an unfired 3 band Sharps Rifle issued to the Berdan Sharpshooters. It sold for $12K back in 1990. A real steal, in my humble opinion.
Ain’t that the truth seem like it would’ve went for a lot more
When showing off a piece of history. I can eat dinner later.
You eat with your eyes and honestly the food dont look half as good after seein that beauty
It's just a remake.
Can’t do both simultaneously?
I could probably stand to miss a meal or six
Me too 4:40
I love how solid sharps are. It reminds me of an old car. All the falling block rifles are like that, they're mechanically very simple, it's just a big hunk of steel but sometimes simplicity is a good thing, especially when it comes to single shot breach loaders. They're very rugged.
My High Wall lacks that huge hammer, but makes up for it by being more graceful.
So are cars w/flathead engines.
My favorite rifle of the era is the Remington Rolling Block. It was a Sharps, though, that Billy Dixon used for his famous 1-mile shot at the Second Battle of Adobe Walls.
Reportedly Dixon, Bat Masterson and Hickok45 drew straws to see who would take the shot.
Remington Rolling Blocks are great rifles.
My Grandfather had two consecutive serial numbered Shilo Sharps. Love those rifles!
I have two myself, and the wife has one as well. Beautifully made and superbly accurate.
I only shoot black powder in them and cast traditional bullets from 350 grains, 420 grains, 520 grain govetnment, 535 grain Postell bullets, and one fine Steve Brooks custom 500 grain smooth sided paper patched bullet. They are the flagship of my prized possessions.
@@denisdegamon8224: That all sounded like mumbo jumbo gibberish.
I purchased one of these based on your original video many moons ago. It did not disappoint. Still have it. Still treasure it.
Beautiful rifle. Happy New Year
"If I miss too much and I cause you to miss your dinner - I'm sorry". Too funny! Classic Hickock45 with the 45-70 Lyman Sharps tribute / remake.
Love the 45/70 in tc/ssk frame contender pistol. A friend has a sharps rifle like that. It is beautiful rifle.
Exquisite craftsmanship a work of art.
45/70 is the bomb! Got a Winchester miroku lever with a 26" barrel that is a load of fun. With the price of those cartridges, a guy has to reload unless he's wealthy... 😅
You're correct on the reloading subject saving money! But more importantly, 11:55 your own ammo is being able to Taylor your loads to your firearm! Being able to taylor your loads, especially in Black Powder cartridge firearms, is most likely to be able to get the most accuracy out of your firearm! Store bought ammo is rarely the most accurate in your firearm. Also, finding factory loaded Black Powder loaded ammo is almost impossible today to find, and if you can, is way overpriced and probably not all that accurate. I even got into casting my own bullets. Ever since I got into reloading, and if purchasing a firearm that I don't already have brass, bullets for, I automatically look for and purchase brass, cast bullet molds, and reloading dies for what what ever it shoots. Today!, every firearm I own, no matter what comes about, I can make it go BANG! And the ability to keeping it going bang! I enjoy squeezing out the most accurate ammo for every firearm I have. I'm not into slinging bullets all over the place and because of that I choose to choose to go out shooting by myself or with a friend that believes as I do! Today!, because of my age and health I don't have time to whach and listen to people sling bullets all over the place or boast about their firearm and how accurate it is and if I could let them shoot my guns. The ones I hate the most is the ones that sling bullets all over the place and ask if they can shoot my gun or guns and ammo for them! I prefer to go out shooting with a like minded friend but just by myself is ok too! Another thing! What ever I take out shooting I bring back home with me. I hate those that bring junk, cans, bottles, boxes, wood pallets and plain old trash house trash to use for targets and leave it there after their shooting sessions. Sorry! Didn't mean to get into my likes and dislikes so I'll end! Captain Zoom-Zoom out!
@garyfoltzer6618 Doesn't take much to get on that soap box does it? 😉 I've been reloading for about 20 years now. It's a nice way to spend some time exercising the scientific method and have some fun at the same time!
Bought my Shiloh Sharps 45-110 years ago and absolutely love it. However, it is NOT for those unwilling to research load data and tech of the 1870's AND be willing to cast your own bullets. If not the 45-70 is an excellent option as ammo is readily available. Having said that, when I go to the range, many are astounded that the accuracy that an 1870's rifle in 45-110 can produce.
Originally the Sharps were not recognized by the amount of powder in the case but by the length of the case. I believe the 45-110 was actually known as the 45-2 7/8 ths.
You sir are indeed correct. I sometimes forget the correct designation of these older rifles and tend to refer to the head stamps of the cases.
Firm believer just as Elmer Keith & all the Buffalo Hunters before him , which most had colorful names . Now , I will loop & reappreciate this beautiful & historic Rifle. TY, Sir & a HNY to all.
Oh Gosch,.. Have one of this in 45-70 and 45-90 each shot the 45-70 with 405 and the 45-90 with 535 Postell Lead slugs and iḿ very appy with the resault. One of the best old westernguns I´v ever shot. Best regards from Bavaria Germany..
Beautiful guns
I think the old buffalo hunters wouldn't frown on you shooting from crossed sticks. That's a good looking rifle and some admirable shooting! Over the years I've enjoyed Sharps '74s by Pedersoli and Shiloh (Number 1 Sporter) as well as an 1875 by C. Sharps and the Browning 1885, all in 45-70. They have all been great fun to shoot, especially when they have a "shotgun" butt (versus the curved military-style butt). I understand that the Lymans were made by Chiappa. Yours looks fabulous!
Love my Sharps, and love watching you shoot one. Thank you. Awesome piece of American history.
Thanks for the video showing the Sharps 45/70 in action and Happy New Year to you and family.
This is really a wonderful Piece of Gunmakers Art and Craftman's Ship.. Love IT ❤
Thank you for showing some of the best forearms made.
Yes his forearms are indeed spectacular
A beauty! Thank you.
My 45-70 is a Winchester 1886....Octagon barrel, full length magazine, pistol grip, crescent butt plate, tang sight and at 82, optional side mounted scope....Have a Happy New Year....
The only challenge I have is affording one ! I'm glad you got a historical caliber...and not another 45 Colt.
A genuine man. 🇺🇸
Fun subscription, time well spent. NO 'ears' needed watching.
Hell yeah! Beautiful firearm you got there Mr. Hickok!
Quigley!
Beautiful firearm!
you can put the spent brass back in the belt or get a dump pouch to make it easier to deal with....Great video, thanks
Very nice beautiful firearm!
Wow,that is a beautiful piece of art work ❤
Your comments re: the weight of the ~10 pound rifle while shooting off hand are spot on! Up here in Virginia at the North South Skirmish Association matches we shoot like that for extended periods of time. Weight training makes a difference.
Have owne😆d HUNDREDS of guns over the 77-year span I've drawn breath on this planet, but a Sharps repro or original was not among them. At least not YET! Happy New Year, Hickock!😆
I'd love to see you shoot that rifle with some black powder cartridges. The sound is different, and the cloud of smoke is great. And they're really accurate. They're a bit of a pain to load, but worth the trouble in my opinion.
A beautiful rifle! When I was a boy I learned shooting with Lyman sights. You are an excellent shot! Best wishes.
as always your shooting is just the best I am a good shot but I don't know if I was shooting against you it would be tough great stuff, glad I found your site again be safe god bless
Thank you, sir very entertaining and educational video. Merry Christmas. 🎁🎄 and a happy new year.🎊
I have an old Sharps carbine 1855 model. Serial #1279. It is in functional condition and at some point it was converted from the paper cartridge, disk primer to a metallic cartridge, 50-70. When I discovered its value I took it from the wall and put it in my gun safe.
I have the same rifle with a vernier rear sight....accurate and good looking firearm. Nice shooting Hickok 45 😊
I have a Pedersoli straight stock with vernier sight. It's my absolute favorite long gun in my collection (My coonan .357 mag is my fave pistol)
Very fantastic rifle Definitely a classic one for the people who love the tools that have been around for years and work spectacular
Fun shoot, enjoyed it. Thanks for taking me along!...
Ahh quigley
Exactly what I was just thinking
Years ago, I collected Winchester files and carbines. I had probably 30 old rear peep sights and some fronts. Lots of history learned. Always wanted a Sharps
Now I’m really living vicariously through you brotha here in SC what a beautiful Sharps rifle going to have to call you Quigley around us thanks for sharing
I had a Shilo Sharps made in 45-70. I had a 2 year wait. The fit and finish is amazing.
Man, so many vids, ur flooding my phone, love em' though, learning alot especially with the mossberg pump shock wave, love ur vid on that
Eating dinner and watching Hickok 45 with a 45-70 Sharps and a 45-70 bandoleer belt. 😊
Love your videos SIR.
Love the 45/70! Have an original Springfield 1873/1884 Springfield trapdoor cavalry carbine. The action isn't as strong as the mighty Sharps, but the 45/70 does the trick.
Lol! I enjoy your shows. That tall one.... yeah ' the taller they are, the harder they fall ( farther and longer to fall also)
Whoa, nice belt buckle Hickock!
Ron, I wish I had that gun, and you had one twice as good. 😊
What a beautiful rifle! I can see it being used to shoot Creedmoor Style.
My god what a beautiful work of art
Beautiful firearm that makes you willing to forget the price, until you actually have to pay for it, lol. Great shooting, as always.
Love the Sharp's Rifle!
Late afternoon here in Australia just now. So no, I ain't missing dinner here 😊
I love your reviews!
I'm watching this video at 0313 hours. No worries about dinner.
My Winchester 94 is a pretty accurate cowboy model.
always have loved the falling block design.
Yes sir, mostest accurate
Just when I was watching Quigley Down Under.
I have a Pedersoli 1874. Mine has the straight stock and tang vernier sight.
I'm here just for the suspense. I would be styling with that thing in my saddle scabbard.
Most accurate and most beautiful. I've wanted one for many years but scratch the itch with my h&r buffalo classic. Truly the poor man's Quigley, but I love it
I have 5 different variations of the '74 Sharps, but I do not own a '77 Lyman. Beautiful.
It must be because the internet never lies.
There's an elephant gun. There's a deer rifle. And there's a cowboy rifle. Sooo . . . what are you planning to shoot?
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO AFTER WATCHING QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER!
You hit once. That’s Buffalo for dinner. All the rest is just showing off the beauty of the firearm.
True work of art!
Your thumb position on the stock, looks like you have experienced the thumb in the nose it can give you. I own the 50 x 90 Sharps, that one is how I discovered the thumb effect of the Sharp 1874 I have. Great rifles.
No worries dinner can wait , that rifle is beautiful, wish I had one
Cheers Clint
I like to miss that way too with a Browning Highwall .45-70!
Just a side note that rifle looks like a Daisy BB gun in your sasquash sized hands and stature.
Beautiful
Wow! That's a beauty.
Sweet rifle
I’m curious about how does the hammer work, very interesting video, thank you Sir for this video
What a beautiful machine.
Sharp's rifles are great and so much fun to shoot, especially with black powder.
That is a beautiful rifle.
I have a pedersoli Sharp's, pistol grip, octagon to round barrel that believe was shortened by the previous owner.
30" heavy barrel in 45-120 Sharp's.
110 grs goex ffg black powder and fiber wads behind a .459 610 gr round nose bullet has a lot of authority. (OUCH 😢), hahaha.
Damn that looks fun, i like how the gun is grooved out where the bullet goes in so u could probly slide the bullet in with ur thumb right from the groove. They dont make em like they used to
OMG love this thank you so much for sharing
Long live Hickok45
Too purity for me teacher man
But very well done ( Nice Crack down range )
Beutiful work of art
That rifle is a beauty
Man that thing is beautiful!
Beautiful rifle
Don't let the "I hope I hit the target" banter fool you. H45 is an outstanding shot. Maybe one of the best at standing with a pistol or rifle at distance. On one video years ago, at 100 + yards, I saw him put three shots in 1 1/2 "holes." Great marksman, but even better person.
Man, that's a beautiful rifle.
We all like different rifles. That's what makes life so interesting. Sharps are nice but for myself, I prefer the Remington rolling block. I have 2. An original 1887 Model 7 target rifle in 11mm Mauser and a new (30 year old) .30 carbine. Which fires the M1 .30 carbine round.
Absolutely beautiful Rifle!
That is such a pretty firearm!
I've got the Quigley in 45/120. yea they are heavy.
Beautiful gun.
It sounded like rain after shooting the watermelon, cool
I picked up my 45-70 a few years ago best elk gun ever
TY!! Just yesterday, I thought to myself, "I wonder about those SHARPS rifles"/ Today, here's your vid!! Service w/a smile!!
