    Never had one as a pet, but there used to be a 12ft gator that would sun on my dads deck everyday. We used to take our folding chairs and a six pack out there and hang out and drink with him. He was a chill guy, didn’t mind us being there at all lol. I think he might’ve liked the company even

    I'm glad he's so responsible with his gator. Im sure he is very tame, but the fact he tapes the mouth in public is really responsible of him.

      @@bromaro true, but I like to look at things on both sides but i can see the concerns for that as well. However all animals will have some sort of stress being out in public. If a dog is agressive a muzzle is used in public. You can't train a dog not to be agressive if they aren't out to train. Much like a gator can't get used to people if not out in public.

      @@FfStar Maybe he’s not allowed to take it out in public without it. Some places require certain breeds of dogs to be muzzled when out in public, just bc of the bad reputation they get.

      @@GabelhelmSogarbraten yeah they're alligatorids, not alligators. Alligators are the animals the belong in the genus alligator, the American alligator and the chinese alligator. Not differentiating them is comparable to calling bears lions

      that's real trust right there and proof that almost any animal can be domesticated over time when raised by humans as babies. imagine is this caiman had offspring and people took care of the offspring like this and then that one has offspring and repeat....then you have a fully domesticated caiman breed just like a dog or a cat.

      I actually just learned that caimans in specific are more closely related to alligators, even though they look more like crocodiles.

    As an Australian I giggle about how they’re talking about this “pet” as if it’s huge. In Australia crocodiles get to be around 5m (16ft) and around 450kg (nearly 1000lbs)

    I wonder how the gator feels about the kids treating him as a jungle gym lmao. At least his mouth I taped up when out in public. 200 years from now I wouldn’t be surprised if gators are just as domesticated as cats and dogs lol.

    Thats not an alligator, its a crocodile. You can tell by the shape of the snout. A crocodile has more of a V shaped snout white an alligator has more of a U shaped snout.

      Well it's for public safety. If the animal suddenly gets stressed it can be very unpredictable. This man has been living with the caiman for decades without issue so it's not really a problem at home.
