"Tessa Perutz (born 1988, Chicago) takes us into a world that is at the same time recognizable but also unfamiliar. Forms and colors play with our illusions, by building and then deconstructing planes within natural landscapes. By layering the brightly colored shapes, Tessa is able to transform one of the oldest themes in painting - the landscape - into an almost abstract composition. Each form, each color, can be separated and can live, move, and traverse the surface individually from all the rest. Strangely familiar, this landscape depicts a specific place for the artist, yet nevertheless allows the viewer to find our own experience through it."
