      With you. On the lake I cannot get a fish for anything. On the river, great days. Then it rains like crazy again and I go back to the lake to get skunked. Weather needs to chill.

    I love that you always remind anglers that the first goal is “enjoyment” and the second goal is “catching”.
    If you're not enjoying yourself you won't catch! If you're not catching, there are still myriad ways of enjoying yourself - besides, you never know when your next bite will occur which IMHO adds to the enjoyment factor👍
    Great videa as always

      You're not alone, I'm on a pretty substantial skunk streak myself right now. I've spent many hours sitting on the bank enjoying all the things that are enjoyable about that. Sometimes at this point I find that don't really feel like going fishing again, but that all goes away when I find that next hot bite. In the end, I'm always glad I persisted through the rough patch. I hope your skunk streak ends gloriously and soon. Good luck!

    Nice!!! Funny, I was just going to comment that the bucket is one of best things that I learned here. When I first started one the things I did not like was the gunk build up on my rod handles (and why didn't I think of that!!). I understand going w/just a backpack it being a luxury as I don't pack mine, I need a foldable pail. The foldable pull wagon is awesome though, when you can use it. Thanks Tom, as always great editing, sound and quantity!!!

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  20 дней назад

      I always wash hands between baiting and casting, but this one spot where I had to climb up and down a 5 foot cliff to get to the water every time really convinced me there had to be a better way. The bucket was a suggestion from another viewer, and was kind of a "Duh, why didn't I think of that" moment for me. Now I bring it along even when the water access is easy. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks!

    I'd put some cution on that unhooking mat I've seen carp bash them self on euro unhooking mats that are padded on hard ground. I have a cradel and unhooking mat for big carp tackle perfer the cradel

  • @thomaskass6668
    @thomaskass6668 20 дней назад +1

    Your set up today is basically what I use . Minus the unhooking mat and back pack.
    My chair has a storage pouch built in to it and I added a shoulder strap to carry it. Bait bag an net 3 rods. Fishing been slow in pa with some of the smaller lakes already into the spawn. Can you tell me what those bow fishermen do with all those carp they kill 🤔

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  20 дней назад

      Some guys will do something useful with the fish like use them for cutbait or fertilizer, or even eat them, but I think that's rare. Usually it's wanton waste. They kill the fish and then toss them in the trash. At least that's what they're supposed to do. More often they leave them laying on the bank or pile them at the boat ramp.

    • @thomaskass6668
      @thomaskass6668 20 дней назад

      @OutsidewithTom when they kill off all the big fish genetics there won't be any big carp. Especially when there letting them shoot them during the spawn. Sorry tom this works me up!

    Is it an american thing that people don´t have their spools filled up completely? Makes me anxious :D
    Cool video though, that´s how I´m fishing most of the year.

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  20 дней назад +6

      Whenever you see the spool on the video, a significant length of the line is out in the water.

    • @jahrolo
      @jahrolo 20 дней назад

      @@OutsidewithTom No offense ;)
      How far out did you cast? And you´re using braid, right? Seems like a thick line to me... Maybe that´s why the spool looks so empty.
      Here in Europe (Austria, to be precise) I´m using 0,37 to 0,40 mm mono on a much bigger reel. Could also be an explanation.
      Because when I cast (not more than 80 meters most of the time) my spool still looks fully loaded :D
      But most of US bass fishermen on youtube have their reels not filled up.

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  20 дней назад +7

      My gear list is in the description. This is the kind of pointless nitpicky stuff that I just don't care about, so I'll pass on the explanation and debate. Good luck.

    • @henryschmidt636
      @henryschmidt636 20 дней назад +1

      No it's not an American thing but it sure seems to be a RUclipsr thing. Drives me nuts too. And it's not just after a long cast is made. I do "nit pick" and observe every tiny detail, just a habit after 25 years of police work. Mono is so cheap, there is no reason to ever not have a full spool.

    At least for salmon fishing if you fish with the wind into your face the fishing is better. I haven't noticed it with carp fishing except the waves kinda screw up my fishing.

    Lol, if dried seeds expand and kill fish, then we definitely wouldn't have any Carp. I wonder how this concept came about.

    • @OutsidewithTom
      @OutsidewithTom  20 дней назад +2

      I remember hearing about a similar myth when I was a kid, that it was bad to throw rice at weddings because birds would eat the uncooked rice and then their stomachs would swell up and kill the bird. I think maybe this fish myth might be based on that bird myth, which has been proven false.

  • @DylanKowalski123

    Love your videos but I would not call this minimalist if you saw what I bring. I bring 3 rods or 2 depending in how many I'm allowed. My bait, net, and beer that's it. I got adhd so can never sit still no need for chair and landing mat I just get them out in net.
