Upcycling is such a cool art, thanks for posting 👍
No worries! Glad you liked it, cheers 👍
This is something I never even considered before. Now I'm going to have to see if an old rear rack can be repurposed. Cool! 😎
Haha yes! Easier than buy/finding a front rack for sure ! Cheers 😊
Got an old rear rack from a dusty bike. Was messing around with it and could not install it, due to a lack of instruments. Discovered a local “work station” initiative, where u can use all the tools and old parts for free. Long story short got myself an amazing rack, bunch of new friends and cool place to hang out! Thank u for the great vid!
Hell ya that sounds awesome ! No worries thank you for watching cheers !
I just sawed the loop off an old Blackburn rear rack so that it made room for the front brake on a 1996 Saracen MTB.
(I did a Canti to V-Brake conversion as well, because Cantis are bloody awful).
It's much better to have the load transmitted vertically down, to steel bolts in a steel frame, than to a bent aluminium tube.
Nice !! Glad you were able to do it 👍
By the fact that i have some rear racks laying around, I am actually thinking about the same idea🙂nice to see, how you fixed it…thanks for sharing👍🏻😎greetings, Achim
No worries!! Hope it helps, & good luck 👍😊
It looks really good. Just wondering if you put heavy items on the rack the fact that the attachment is bended it could be eventually a problem. Metal resists well to compression and traction which are the forces you have there when there is no bend.
Cheers man! the metal is pretty thick so I don’t think it would be a problem but I’ll def keep an eye on it !
Such a cool looking bike Gary...The rack makes a great addition. .Always enjoy your videos. .Thanks 🙋
Thanks Steve! Glad you like the vids, appreciate it, cheers!
The very gradual bending and multi point b ends to achieve a better angle was the best way to go about this.
Not to mention bike packing usually entails light weight gear
Thank you i appreciate that 🙏😊
Looks tidy as! I still have no idea why front racks are so much more expensive than rear ones 🤷♂️
Cheers! Haha yeah good point, they are literally made very similar! 🤔🤷♂️
@@garysprojects yo it’s the same with linear/compressionless brake cables. It’s the same style as gear housing, but 4x the cost 🤷♂️
@@toastyrides 😳😳😳 strange
i love your videos and bikes! i will try that out on my bike too. Thank your for your inspiration 😊
cheers mate i appreciate that!!
That's brilliant !!
thank you mate!
Love the shogun bike , mines ancient and still a reliable bike . I'm fitting a rear rack on it this weekend but hadn't thought about one on the front 🤔
Ya shoguns are classics ! Great solid bike. And even better with a rack haha !
“If you run into any problems just bend it”
😂😂😂
Bend it like Gary 😂..
New stickers ?
😂😂😂 not sure if they would sell
Pretty Slick, I was fortunate to find an ancient Rollfast that had a front rack on it...had to drill a hole for the brake cable to go through. It's aluminum though; going to see about one of these instead. Thank You
Awesome ! Cheers man
Love it.. nice one 👍🏽...... Uk 🇬🇧
Thank you my dude I appreciate that 👍
Nice n helpful Gary , cheers ✊
no worries glad it was helpful cheers mate!
Turned out awesome! 👍
Thanks my dude!
I love this tutorial. Too many videos of people doing stuff with a bike shops worth of tools. Instructions: bend it
Hahha ayyy cheers my dude! 😊
Cold-bending aluminium tubes seems a bit sketchy tbh
Try at own risk !
Had an aluminium front rack crack on me, Loved the light weight though...
Nice Gary!
Thank you Chris!
I have only rear eyelet on my fork, but I got the same rack, how can I screw it in in rear fork eyelets ? Any suggestions ?
Yep you can you would just need to make it longer or make an adapter , some ppl use a small piece of metal but I’ve actually attached racks to that eyelet before without any problems
Cheers... So nice bro ❤️
Cheers homie !
Nice upspeak?
thx for letting me know
Looks great, why don't you just put the rack on the rear though ? Is this in addition to a rear rack ? I do like the look of a front rack
Good question, I like the rack on the front so I can have a basket on , makes chucking stuff in easier because you can see it when you ride and you’re not scared of stuff falling out. Maybe I’ll do a rear rack setup soon!
Right on
the covers you have for the cabinets are awesome as well... what are they? Thanks
Haha cheers man they are from ikea, same with the shelves
@@garysprojects THANK YOU SIR
how to do this with quick release wheels?
Connect rack to axle
I love it. But, what is the advantage to running a bodged front rack rather than a legit rear rack? Is this just an experiment for aesthetic fun or is there a handling advantage? Either way I’ll probably give this a go on my old stumpjumper!
I expected the opposite but when I was researching racks I found a lot of people claim front rack impacts handling less
Thank you! I like a front rack because when I do errands and stuff I can chuck it in the basket and have my eyes on it all the time, that’s the main advantage for me! Ya give it a try and let me know what you think! Cheers
😁
Ayyyyy
I've been looking for a rack for my custom 700c, never thought about this! And rear ones are so much cheaper. Cheers man!
@@rustyarches88 for sure ! So strange that the price varies so much when it’s basically the same thing. Good luck with the mod 👍
