Thank you for the useful tutorial. I like the fact you compare the hand calculations with simulation results. This really helps to understand the problem.
Dr. Dalyo, my name is Carlos, from Brazil, I'm a mechanical and civil engineer. I liked very much your video concerning Linear Buckling I-Beam Tutorial - Ansys 17. I have some doubts about this problem. In case of a a frame structure with two columns and one bean linking each other. How to separate the results of the Buckling Analysis for each column? Is it possible to get the load multiplier for each column separately? Thank you so much for your videos and hope you can help me in this issue.
Do you have, or can you recommend, a program of learning that will allow you to think your own way through problems and identify the correct boundary conditions, models etc? In other words, to "teach a man to fish" rather than giving him a nice succulent trout? :) I have been trying to work through the edx course on FEM simulations and he takes you from first principles, but can you recommend a book or online course that will help people to think through and analyse ANY problem, without necessarily being given explicit step by step instructions?
go to a proper technical univeristy or look for mechanics and strength of materials/structural engineering courses online. there you should learn how to calculate forces in nodes, reactions etc and "by hand" calculations, only then you sould start thinking about using FEM/CFD programs, which are basically advanced calculators
Dear DrDalyO, Thank you very much for your video. I have a question on APDL commands. If I apply the boundary condition like F,node_num,FX,FORCE_VALUE how could I display it in WB? I tried use APDL commands: /PBC,ALL,,1 /PBC,NFOR,,1 but it desn't help. I know that in ANSYS MECHANICAL APDL I could choose the next option: PlotCtrls->Symbols->AllAppliedBcl's. Is it possible to make the same thing in WB?
Hello, I have a question, are you discontinuing ANSYS tutorials on RUclips? I found your tutorial on Pluralsight website, where, in order to learn, one has to pay a certain amount every month, so are you not going to make tutorials on RUclips?
Thanks, these videos are very helpful. When I generate the "total deformation 2" for the torsional deformation, the model changes in a way I find hard to describe - not smooth at all, it's really sharp and twisted with sudden directional changes. Could you explain this at all? Cheers
Dear Dr. Dalyo, Thank you for your very helpful videos. I want to model a column with circular cross section in Ansys . the problem is that my column's modulus of elasticity and density vary linearly from bottom to the top of column. is it possible to model this column and define a function for E(elastic modulus) or density in Ansys? if so, how can I do that? In addition, How can I define a rotational spring at the end of my column instead of just fixing it? Thanks for your time,
Dr Dalyo thank you very much for a very informative video. I am a big follower of all ur videos. I just have one question, what does the first and second mode signify, why there exists different modes and by increasing the number of modes what are we trying to achieve . thank you
+Sivaraman Kiran Hi Siva, thanks for liking my channel! Basically they are the different ways the beam can buckle based on the degrees of freedom. Have a read: m.machinedesign.com/fea-and-simulation/buckling-analysis-fea
hello, tnx for your uesfull video. when i modeling this video in my ansys workbench, first mode is okey, but 2th mode have a Highly Distorted Elements. why? and how can i fix it? :(
The eigenvalue is an indicator that gives you the load multiplier. Meaning, that is the multiplier of the current load in your structure to have the load that would cause buckling to occur. For example, your column is currently being under 100 kN, and the first eigenvalue is 2.0, that would mean at load 100 x 2.0 = 200 kN, the first buckling mode would occur. Therefore, the higher the eigenvalues the better.
Sir, your videos are helpful and informative. I could model simple beams and columns easily. But i have a problem while importing geometry from AutoCAD 3D in .iges format. After importing geometry, it is generated as surface bodies and not as solid body. Help me out to solve the problem. Thankyou
Hi I'm trying to find critical force for c channels for lipped and without so if you could do another video by showing how you work out the critical force by hand and then by using ansys. Btw I love your videos really helpful.
hello introduce me firman hidayat .. one of the final semester students at malikussaleh university (indonesia) .. I am currently working on my final project on pci-girder bridge analysis using ansys application ... but I have a little problem about how to input the prestressed cable force that works on the bridge girder beam ... can you help me in solving this problem..help in any form is very appreciated..thank you
Thank you for the useful tutorial. I like the fact you compare the hand calculations with simulation results. This really helps to understand the problem.
Your tutorials are really good. Keep making videos. All the best wishes are for you.
Thanks a lot!
Excellent videos!! Really helpful, this leads to maximize the utilization of Ansys.
"make sure to set the units to something ridiculous before we start"... great
Great job! Lots of info clearly described. I guess I'll have to subscribe :)
Haha guess so! :)
Thanks a lot DrDalyo, very useful video!
Clear and concise! Great video
Sir kindly help ...how to provide proper constraints in case of both ends fixed in ansys fea???
What is the difference of using a line body vs creating a the I beam cross section and extruding ?

very helpful thank you. However i was under the impression that you need to apply an element type to the model. Is this automatic?
It is automatic in Workbench, if u use ADPL you need to apply element type. You can also change the type by using Commands in Workbench
Yours truly useful and easily understood, thanks paa
So if you initially applied 2 [Force unit], the load multiplier would be twice as small?

Please share vedio for non linear buckling.
Thanks!! It's very useful!

Excelent job,thanks
Does the FS buckling change with introduction of end moments on the column?
If load multiplier is coming negative then what will happen?
Thanks, these videos are very helpful. When I generate the "total deformation 2" for the torsional deformation, the model changes in a way I find hard to describe - not smooth at all, it's really sharp and twisted with sudden directional changes. Could you explain this at all? Cheers
I see the same problem, in the second buckling mode beam edges seems very sharper in every mesh. But all the other results are the same.

very clear video..thank you

Can you explain to me what an eigenvalue tells us about the buckling. And is a high eigenvalue good or bad?
The eigenvalue is an indicator that gives you the load multiplier. Meaning, that is the multiplier of the current load in your structure to have the load that would cause buckling to occur. For example, your column is currently being under 100 kN, and the first eigenvalue is 2.0, that would mean at load 100 x 2.0 = 200 kN, the first buckling mode would occur. Therefore, the higher the eigenvalues the better.

Thanks alot for this explanation
Please upload a tutorial on fatigue life assessment of RC beam
how can i share material geometry model between static and linear buckling??
In the project schematic window your allowed to drag from the geometry cell to another analysis cell to link the geometry file to multiple analyses.
How can we do this using APDL Please?

very good
Nice man! Can you make the same excell wth and circular beams too? :O
thank a lot
+kohteesai kyaw Np. Thank you for watching!
You use Internet Explorer!!!!?? WT* Dude!??? :O Btw, great Channel!!!!!!!
+Shayak Ibna Faruqui actually I dont use IE. Its just for the the tutorial to keep it simple and use the default browser.
Thanks!
thanks
Excelent
+Cristiane Daemon Thank you!
Euler is not pronounced "Yuler" but is like "Oiler".
Although the tutorial is great the units really should be in SI.
