ROK special forces are one of the most under rated special forces in the world. They show no quarters, no mercy and humanity rules don’t apply to them if you are their adversaries. If you think Gurkhas are fearless, the ROK special forces are insane.
Only civie kids "rate" special forces. Nobody in the international special forces community gives a damn about ratings or tiers. There are alot of capable special forces out there and you won´t know much about their capability as many of them follow a "no publicity" policy. Its paradox but the better they do their job the less you usually will notice them. Its always the SFs that get rated up by the internet kids that - wanted or unwanted - gained media attention.
@@mgt5126 Yeah. It is kind of pointless. More or less all western (jn a wide sense, including Japan, SK, Australia, Israel etc) militaries/national police forces have excellent special forces. It dosen't matter if it's Delta Force, FBI HRT, GIGN, GSG9, SAS, Norways FSK, Swedens SOG, Sayeret Matkal, Japan's SFG and so on. They vary in scope and resources (US special forces will have far more available support than say Norwegian) but most of them are more or less modelled after each other (military SF often have a wider scope of capabilites than police SF tough) and train with each other. They attract the same kind of people and have similar training programs. Every single one of them would make short work of untrained somali pirates.

the ROKN ship and Naval Base had the facilities, but it was requested that he be given preventive care first and the surgeries after should be in Korea.
Was in the 2nd US Infantry Division 1985 to 1986, at Camp Casey, South Korea. The South Korean armed forces are a tough bunch. All are experts with either Taekwondo or Hapkido. They can literally beat you to death with those martial arts. Guns or fists, these South Koreans could have killed these pirates nine ways to Sunday. Then hopped on a helicopter for a ride back to their main ship. And tossed back a bottle or two of Soju. Soju is a hard spirit, alcoholic beverage of about 70% alcohol. You drink two bottles of Soju and you better get a designated driver. Fastest way I know of to get gassed.
Modern soju varieties do not go above 20% alcohol, most commonly they sit around 12%. Historically it has been 53% when it was first distilled, although those were rare batches. perhaps you were drinking something else
@@ChEwYninetyfive : Whatever the alcohol percentage was two bottles made me loopy. By the fifth bottle I was stewed to the gills. In a coma by the tenth bottle. The other drink I often had was Makolee. A rice wine/beer, or whatever it was, that was as white as milk. When I first bought it from the store, freshly made, it was about 3% alcohol. Often left it in a refrigerator for two months to make it ferment even more. From kiddy beer to something more like Brandy in alcohol content. Wish someone made Makolee in the USA. Tried "Yut" a few times. "Yut" is Korean sake. Burned going down like a shot of sour mash whiskey from the boondocks of Tennessee. ROK soldiers have a great history of combat bravery, sometimes going too far. Just look up the ROK units that operated in Vietnam, nicknamed "Tigers" because they were feared by the Vietnamese and at least according to books I have read they had a habit of taking trophies and leaving "warnings" for the Vietnamese. At one point the ROK has 48,000 personnel in Vietnam. A terrible war that should have never been fought, but God bless the souls that did.
Koreans didnt commit war crimes as frequently as other coalition forces. We knew exactly how to counter partisans based from our experience in Korean War, which was to kill anyone who lied after helping the partisans, while recieving all the help from Korean engineering corps. Places where Koreans eere stations had the least amount of insurgents. They didnt fuck around. 8 million civilians estimated to have died in the Korean War in the course of 3 years. 1.3 million civilians died from Vietnam war over the period of 10+ years.

The arrested pirates were tried and imprisoned in Korea. The imprisoned pirates found that prison life in Korea was much better than living in their own country. They received vocational training provided by the prison and were able to save as a result. Two of the imprisoned pirates were teenagers at the time, and both applied for asylum in the South to have Korean citizenship. One chose to return home after his release from prison because he has a wife and children in his country, but he actually wanted to stay in South Korea, too. The gunman who shot the captain was only 21 years old. He was content with his life in prison, and when he met the captain again, he wept and apologized. He said he had no idea he was doing something bad, because it was for a living. However, he learned a lot while in a prison in South Korea, and when he heard that the captain was not dead, he was tremendously relieved. The captain was able to get out of PTSD after receiving his apology and forgiving him. He is currently out of prison and living in South Korea.
The guy in the blue jumpsuit posing with the captain (1:08) is the pirate who shot the captain. 5 pirates were trialed in Korea, of which 4 got 12~15 years and the guy in the picture got a life sentence with the possibility of a reduced sentence/parole. With access to clean water, food and medical care the pirates actually gained around 25 pounds in prison and are being educated in English, Korean & Somali (they couldn’t read or write) to prepare them for a life after they are released. They even asked if it was possible for them to be granted Korean citizenship after release as a refugee, but that’s to be discussed in the future I guess.

@@Warlordrex5 You need to read up on the Pacific theater. The Japanese were already in a state of considering surrender by the time the atomic bombs were thrown. The Japanese Guandong Army was stationed in Manchuria for years, with the idea that it would be able to withstand the Red Army long enough for the USSR to reconsider an Asian theater. But when the Red Army did show up, the Guandong Army was like a twig in front of an avalanche. Manchuria was all but gone in just 2 weeks. Nor did the atomic bombs actually get the Japanese to surrender. It was when the US accepted that Japan can keep its emperor, with full immunity from war tribunals, that Japan accepted the terms of surrender. The US could have thrown 50 nukes at Japan and they still wouldn't have surrendered had the immunity clause on the emperor not been stated.

I believe they oppose libertarian values because they are a danger to the status quo. I wonder if folks know there's a huge difference between conservatism and libertarianism.

I was stationed in Vietnam back in 69 69 to 70 and we had an ROK company bass camped there I used to walk past the building and I would hear these soldiers in there hollering I stopped in one night just to see what it was and they were all practicing Taekwondo I asked if I could join and the sensei so sure no problem I stayed there about a month and realize that everyone in the class was so far Advanced past me I could never catch up but I was thoroughly impressed with what badasses those boys were

I just read more about this operation. It's an extremely hard op to pull off as the target structure is in the middle of sea, adding extra layers of complexities and uncertainties compared to a building, airplane, and bus hostage situation that are on the ground and static when rushed (not to say these are easy in anyway). This could've gone wrong or bad in so many ways. It's remarkable what they pulled off.
When dealing with pirates the western forces are too cautious and "humane", While the redblock is too brutal and unprofessional.
ROK is spot on.
One missing part. One pirate picked up a RPG to shoot the navy's ship, he got eliminated by sniper.
I would like to express my respect for all those who contributed to Operation Adenman Dawn and my appreciation and greatness that I cannot express in words. A hero can be anyone, but also no one can have the courage easily. Thank you.
Lol...you can rate them because???? What a colossal idiot

Thank you for your service, sir
Let's just say I still can't remember what I did on some of the weekend benders that I had in wonderful, downtown Tongduchon, South Korea.
In 80s it was mininum of 20 percent to 35 percent. Quality ones are minimum 50 (served to guests) Considering the volume of the bottle back then, i'd say its kinda true

Respect to all the brave people who went to the rescue

You don't mess with South Korean ships(or South Koreans in general), there's a reason they've been able hold off their northen brother. Same goes for American ships, both might have a bigger payout than ships from smaller countries. If you really want to know why not to mess with American ships just ask Japan what happened last time they messed with them.

There was no "surrender" to them, it would have been much bloodlier to not have used the A-bombs. Plus did they start waving the white flag after one? No. Only after a second nuke did they start waving the white flag, point being they got hit with one of the worst weapons man has ever made and were willing to still fight. *"in bitter retaliation."* America didn't want to be dragged into another war so when Japan made a surprise attack on US soil that no was expecting(because it's peacetime in America) yeah I can say they're bitter about having to come in and win another World War. You'd have to be a sociopath to be proud of that and I'm not a sociopath, I'm an American.
sean locke lets ask the 938,174 women and men and 120,406 children how they felt about how those peaceful Japanese when China itself was declaring surrender.
