This was always going to be the danger of expanding the playoff - as you expand the field, you increase the number of bubble teams that get left out. At 4 teams, most years, the top 3 or 4 were clear. Sometimes, a 5th team had a good argument. But now, at 12 teams, drawing a line between worthy and unworthy 2 or even 3 loss teams, is going to be very hard. And, of course, the prospect of a "worthy" SEC team being left out is too much for the taking heads to handle.
@bobdibenedetto5891 Sure, it makes for good conversation, but I'm afraid it cheapens the title. Historically, the national champs could be largely perceived to be the best team in the country. Now, it's going to be which good/great team got hot at the right time and avoided critical injuries. No longer a national champ, in the historical sense, but more of a tournament champ, like college basketball.
Danny K is a joke. He is pushing a narrative that BSU doesn’t belong. And he’s attempting to prop up Colorado. Also he’s putting Jeanty down (best player in college and propping up Hunter who doesn’t have good performances like the very last game where he as a corner got beat and the guy he was covering caught 3 of 4 balls thrown to him and one for a TD. How is that good defense? Also on offense had just 55 yards, 3rd on his own team. But he, and so many others in media say he’s pulling away with the race…..such bs. They twist the facts and leave out most of the facts. (Jeanty is leading the nation in about 5 categories at least, none for Hunter, he’s borderline top 10 receiver barely currently and not a top corner. He plays a lot of snaps….so?) They say in the last game that he had a TD and interception…but anyone could have ran in untouched on that TD like he did and ANYONE could have caught that lollipop of of a tipped ball directly to him
Kannell said himself, "there is almost no incentive to win your conference". However, since the system is completely broken and you have conference championships that mean absolutely nothing over CFP championship why play the game at all? If you think the game matters then it should affect their rankings after the loss otherwise, again, why play the game at all? If there is no incentive to win a conference ND should be in a better situation because they are not subjected to a conference title game that means absolutely nothing. Michigan....a no name football school for the last 20 years got a gift that will never happen again in the history of CFP. Do I think Michigan was the best team last year? No. Do I think they would have won it in a 12-team playoff format like this year? No. UGA was eliminated from CFP last year by a fluke loss to Bama leaving the least competitive teams to face Michigan in the CFP. In 2024 format, a 1 or 2 loss UGA team in a conference title or regular season game would have bounced back in the playoffs and came on top. and/or Who knows what FSU would have done with a healthy Jordan Travis regardless if they made CFP. they could have potentially did the same being a 5 or 6 ranked team.
Yes and if not I’m done with this sport. You can’t keep that roster out, especially with all the blowouts this season. And Will Howard was down vs Oregon. Lazy officials didn’t wanna review it
Losing a conference championship game should absolutely drop a team. If you win you get a first round bye, that's a massive advantage over the rest of the field and a great opportunity. Don't want to worry about dropping by losing the conference champ game? Then go win the game, how about that?
Beat who’s on your schedule regardless of the conference. Yeah Ga could bet Army but a 3 loss Ga doesn’t deserve to get in if they lose the Sec championship game. Beat your opponent and get in. Period.
Every other team in the top 12 or going in should be worried about to go up against Oregon , Ohio State , Alabama and Georgia all four of those team I can see winning the National championship
The system is not perfect. We now have a 12-team playoff, and we still have people arguing over whether teams like Indiana deserve to be in. For every argument against, there's going to be one for. Get over what the committee decides. There's no right or fair answer here. I'm an Indiana fan. If the committee decides they don't get in at 11-1, so be it. Fair? No. Disappointing? Of course. It all depends on what they choose to use as criteria.
The eye test against ohio state is going to be absolute huge if indiana wants to be in the discussion. The strength of schedule is going to hurt them. But if they can look as good or even better than penn state did than i dont think you can leave them out over a 2 loss sec team. I am a penn state fan and i am cheering for you guys. Win or lose you can not get embarrassed
I think with them having Indiana at #5, they are in no matter what. If they had plans on Indiana not making it if they lose, they'd be ranked in the 8-11 range. They could lose 35-7 and still be in. Look at Miami at 8. ZERO quality games played, struggle almost every week and a lost to unranked GT. This committee is a joke. They go against everything they say for why teams are ranked. We look at how teams play. Miami looks bad every week. TX doesn't look as impressive anymore, except against FL who sat everyone slightly injured. Indiana struggled against a bad Michigan. I have no idea outside just don't play anyone good next year, to take this ranking system.
It's lunacy to still talk about Notre Dame joining a conference. Florida State won the ACC, went 13-0, and got left out last year. Can this whole stupid "join a conference" thing finally go away?? Christ.

We absolutely give most if not all SEC teams a huge benefit of the doubt. Listen to most pundits and they will always talk about SEC teams wins and everyone else they will talk about their losses. They will say Alabama won this game or this game but then never mention the vandy or at minimal glaze over it in two secs like it means nothing...
Penn St, Miami, and Indiana are all getting HUGE benefit of doubt. Miami has no quality wins and lost to GT, while almost losing to a bunch of other bad schools. Penn St has beat no one to earn that 4 spot. Indiana at 5 has a weak schedule for a G5 team. Yes TX should be lower as well. Stop being brainwashed. There is a lot of garbage going on in the rankings, not just the SEC
I think if Indiana loses to Ohio State they still belong because of the way they are winning. Yes they haven't beaten any ranked teams but its the way they are winning and not losing to weaker teams like Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss and A&M. I agree if Texas loses to A&M they probably dont belong but I think the reason they are ranked so high is because they have been beating and dominating the unranked teams and their defense is holding teams to their season low. I think the Georgia game was an anomaly compared to the rest of their season and I'm confident they beat A&M and if they lose yeah they should probably be out.
Please read @danny @josh. College football is so boring right now. Some weeks there’s only one or two interesting games. All the other games are boring and meaningless. Why don’t we have a “premier” league. Like the top 30 teams play each other. Every week is packed with fantastic matchups. Then the bottom six schools get sent down, and the lower championship winners get to play in the big leagues. Beyond the top 30 teams the talent drops off too far. Take the cream of each division and let them play it out for real. College football would be the most popular and profitable sport on the planet. The NIL money would explode for these kids, and they deserve every dollar of it. Make college football great again!!
Strength of what schedule??? Every sec team got two Ls which includes getting BLOWN OUT! if their blue chips are getting blown out, then it’s NOT a strong conference
I realistically think if Indiana looks good and keeps it close, they deserve some benefit of the doubt. But man their schedule really ended up sucking horribly this year, and those OOC weaklings were likely scheduled when Indiana sucked
Let's say theoretically that we created a new conference that included only NFL teams. Now let's say that during the regular season they only play in their conference. Most likely all of those teams would have at least one or two losses. Now the best of that conference would theoretically be like 10-2 but we know that they're obviously the best team in the country because it's NFL vs college. I'm this CFP system that team would probably not make the top 10. What I explained is basically the situation the SEC has.
The NFL system is superior because there is no eye test. No bias. Win in your region and you go to playoff. No taking 5 sec teams and 1 and 2 teams from the rest of the conferences. That's dumb.
@bjf5027 dumb it down for yourself. Look at the top 10.... nobody is beating anyone up and all of them are the top teams in their conferences 🙄 your point is invalid at this point
@@bryanpbrowning8620 The NFL system is also insanely boring. Their games have next to no weight. You could be 6-6 and still progress. I miss when the games mattered, when who you played mattered. This 12 team, autobid garbage can go away

But a 2loss Texas team is going to the playoffs , stop the cap 🧢 😂😂😂
This is nonsense, how does Texas have a 97% chance to make it and A&M a 14% chance? If A&M wins their next 2 games there is no argument to leave them behind Texas.

The system is far from perfect. However, if you think that the top 4-5 teams in the SEC aren’t all national championship contenders, you’re flat out wrong. It’s pretty much universal, however, that Indiana, Boise State, and BYU have no shot of winning it all.
Ole miss, Georgia , Alabama and Texas could all 100% without doubt beat Ohio state or Oregon. Who else is gonna stand in their way? Penn state? Absolutely not, Indiana? No, byu? No Colorado? Danny’s a little nuts… Indiana’s schedule is horrendous, and if they lose by 3 TDs to OSU, they’re not really good enough for the tourney. But the playoff does not mesh with the conf championship games. Couldn’t you see where, if the loser of that game was expected to still be invited to the dance, where they might rest some starters, or players who might be 50%, for the championship game? So what’s the point?
Lastly, bring back the BCS era rule that did not count FCS opponents as part of a team's record. So, the SEC would have to weigh the benefit of keeping their week-11 cupcakes vs the cost of only playing 11 FBS opponents.
There's just as many B1G, ACC, Big12 teams on the "played an FCS team" as there are SEC schools. Or are you mad Alabama played a trash school in Nov while Ohio St/Penn St were playing 1-9 Perdue in Nov?

Yeah he’s right they have nothing to stand on. If I’m Usain Bolt but I’m only beating high schoolers doesn’t show much but when I finally race another pro I get blown out. That’s Indiana, you have to prove you can at least beat a ranked opponent not the bottom of the Big 10

@@bobdibenedetto5891haha much obliged
Indiana and SMU are two great stories this year
If only they played a team worth a shit
@dwnsouthboy they will, I'm not saying they're going to win the national championship. Lol
smu did they lost though
Danny Kannell missed half the IU argument...
Josh cooked him here mostly
Big respect for Josh bringing up Texas being out with a loss to TAMU
Yall should’ve said that about that 2016 PSU team that WON the big10 and GOT LEFT OUT
As a OSU fan. What if Ohio State loses to Indiana? Are they still in with 2-loss & no possible B10 conference championship attendance?
Yes and if not I’m done with this sport. You can’t keep that roster out, especially with all the blowouts this season. And Will Howard was down vs Oregon. Lazy officials didn’t wanna review it
I'd keep Ohio St in
Josh Pate in the House.. Danny Kanell is the "Hill" of WWE. Plays role well.
I'd like to think Danny is Jesse, Josh is Josh, and Jesse is the 10 year old kid.
Losing a conference championship game should absolutely drop a team. If you win you get a first round bye, that's a massive advantage over the rest of the field and a great opportunity. Don't want to worry about dropping by losing the conference champ game? Then go win the game, how about that?
The risk is greater than the reward. Just ask Georgia last year
1:51 it did make me chuckle that the top 4 In that list literally all beat each other in reverse order. 1 lost to 2 who lost to 3 who lost to 4

@@JustN0pe3 I'd like to believe that would be the case.
SOS has to rule! If not then we are going to get more major mismatch games. I don’t wanna watch a top 10 team play Furman or Chattanooga
This is great,,,the media is making this a big drama. 12 teams is awesome and quit making it a negative situation.
It's lunacy to still talk about Notre Dame joining a conference. Florida State won the ACC, went 13-0, and got left out last year. Can this whole stupid "join a conference" thing finally go away?? Christ.
Boise State gonna make you cry baby SEC and Big 10 fans weep this year
Texas had their biggest win against Vandy. That definitely should get them a bye.
Buffs don't need AS or IS to lose, those teams are both 2 losses in the conference and CU is 1. If CU wins out Big 12 they're in.
so is byu
Pate, I found your page before I knew your employer! In Georgia that means I gotta support a fellow Georgian! I'm a DSGB so 🤷🏿 I'm just here to let the people know that Josh Pate loves Black People and Mexicans! 👀🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 #DAWGNATION
Josh jumps off and on about him and the sec. One day he says the sec is the best and the other, big10 is.
Tennessee over Ole Miss is a new one - Ole Miss destroyed Georgia , who just beat Tenn by 2 TDs , both within the last 10 freakin days
Ole Miss lost to awful kentucky at home. Arkansas lost to bad Arkansas. No doubt both teams should be eliminated already.

Why
The ACC should get 2 maybe 3 in. They won't but if it was fair they would. 6 sec teams will get in which is dumb.
@@jimjason5146probably 4. But acc is ass, sec vastly superior.
@ SMU is in the ACC championship game - the ACC is laughable per usual. Your front leader just lost to Georgia tech lmao
SMU coa beat some of the CFP teams. Their only loss is to BYU by 3 points before they changed Qb
Strength of what schedule??? Every sec team got two Ls which includes getting BLOWN OUT! if their blue chips are getting blown out, then it’s NOT a strong conference
Who's a strong conference? The B1G? That conference is so strong one of their teams SOS is 106. That bad even for a G5 team. Let that sink in
Kanell is still upset about his team getting beat in South Bend.
I realistically think if Indiana looks good and keeps it close, they deserve some benefit of the doubt. But man their schedule really ended up sucking horribly this year, and those OOC weaklings were likely scheduled when Indiana sucked
lol goes to every first week game where anything happens.
No it isn't. You are trying to seem smart while simultaneously not making a single legitimate point in all of your cry baby statement
The NFL system is superior because there is no eye test. No bias. Win in your region and you go to playoff. No taking 5 sec teams and 1 and 2 teams from the rest of the conferences. That's dumb.
@@bryanpbrowning8620 okay let me dumb it down for you. If the best conference has the best teams, then they will knock each other out of the running.

Don't normally agree with Kanell but thought he made good points in relation to Indiana.
The Texas hate is real and i like it . The fact of the matter is a 2loss Texas team is making the playoffs . You got me if they lose 3. But two losses, how do you exclude Texas . If Texas beats A&M and then loses the sec championship, they’ll be like the 8th seed or something. If they lose to A&M they’ll probably be a 9th-11 seed or something . But a 2loss Texas team is going to the playoffs , stop the cap 🧢 😂😂😂
Danny just can't stand that there's at least 6 SEC teams that should be in the play offs.
Right ! Like it’s not the toughest conference in CFB
There's 7 teams that are in the bubble convo now.
This is nonsense, how does Texas have a 97% chance to make it and A&M a 14% chance? If A&M wins their next 2 games there is no argument to leave them behind Texas.
ATM will have to win 3 in a row Auburn, TX and Bama to get in if not they have 3 losses and are out. If TX beats Kentucky (TX is 21 point favorite) then worst case is 2 loses and they are still in.
Ok screw it lets do what basketball does!!

He’s right about Tejas. They play no one. They belong in the big ten with that weak sauce schedule. Just like Ohio State does every year. Sorry.

Thank you Josh for devaluing the regular season. So if Indiana loses to OSU, they have nothing to stand on? What about a 10-0 start with an average margin of 20+ points? Do the games not matter? This is why I unsubbed to Josh. Pure contradiction just to get his puppies (Dawgs) in
Yeah he’s right they have nothing to stand on. If I’m Usain Bolt but I’m only beating high schoolers doesn’t show much but when I finally race another pro I get blown out. That’s Indiana, you have to prove you can at least beat a ranked opponent not the bottom of the Big 10
