This story was amazing in its own right but made even better by the telling. Ian, you possess the wondrous gift of storytelling. Lady Sybil was better than all the refined gold in this world!
I really like the work of H.B. Cave I hope you'll read more from him. Just like H.Kuttner, hope you'll get permission to read them to us. Lovely stories....!👍🏻👋🏻
Another compelling entry in HB's excellent Fringes of the Mythos series. What can I possibly say except thank you HorrorBabble! Your adaptations are wonderfully engaging and so expertly produced they're a pleasure every time in addition to helping spread high culture to the masses. Again, thanks HorrorBabble!
I must have listened to "The Brotherhood of Blood" (by Hugh B. Cave) a dozen or so times. I'm thinking this tale is just as well-written (and creepy). I'll save this story for some time after dark. Many thanks, Ian. Cheers -- W
Amazing story and narration! This one is fantastic! I love this story, especially the ending. I will divulge no more so people do not complain of spoilers. This is a darn fine story. It's definitely worthy of "fringes of the mythos." I am going to be sad after this series e ds next week 😢. I want to read more about this author. Thanks, Ian!
Marvelous narration, good sir! As soothing as this story was, I do feel an uncertain question welling up from the unlit depths of my own subconscious. How did Warren die?...
This would make a wonderful black and white movie if done correctly. The story shows how the power of love can overcome evil. Thanks for your narration, Ian!
I’ve been avoiding this video….trying really hard to prolong our “Fringes of the Mythos” Journey! 😢 I’ll most likely do the same with the final video, as well!! I DON’T WANT OUR JOURNEY TO END! 😣😭
While this was thoroughly entertaining it has so many plot holes and contrivances it works better as comedy really **SPOILERS BELOW** 1)First off the bad guy pretends the feud is over and gives his enemy the most horrible picture imaginable as a gesture of reconciliation, wtf? 2)The family decides to put it on prominent display instead of quietly stuffing the ghastly thing into a closet and forgetting about it/burning it 3)Then when the bad guy dies he has his son somehow break into the house, find the picture, fit a 3 foot space behind it and inter his fathers coffin in that space without anyone being the wiser 4)When the ghoul starts working on the father he promptly decides its a family curse and demands his son not tell anyone, because hey, why would you want to warn your kid about the family curse? I mean they might actually be able to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT if you did that! 5)And then in the centuries after no-one EVER takes the picture down to clean it, discovering the coffin 6)Not one member of the family moves abroad or just decides to live elsewhere in the country and avoids the curse 7)All of them "do their duty" by keeping the secret (because look how well that works out for the previous generation) 8)And not a single one ever thinks that maybe that hideous old portrait OF A GHOUL might have something to do with the curse when it strikes them Really though, I loved this story! It was just so silly!
“Suspension of disbelief” is a real thing, often enjoyed by the “believers” so they can emotionally engage in the fervor of the [this]story. Often times, honor & disgrace go hand in hand down the path of pride’s foley. To use Tarot as metaphor, the Fool’s Journey is the Joker card; there is a fool/child & it is entertainment to watch the Tower fall; of course, in the telling of the narrative Wisdom comes from a True-Lover’s Fellowship, employing Courage/Strength to Chariot through the MASSIVE MESS of IGNORANCE’s Bliss; and, finally, Star’s in alignment with the Sun & Moon represent the fully INTEGRATED [Adult]Magician who with the Hierophant/Hermit, Emperor/Empress, High Priestess’s Knowledge the Fool becomes the Hero by KNOWING the DEVIL on the outside IS the Devil inside; Temperance/Grace for self offers environmental/communal Justice; therefore, The Wheel of Future Fortune may turn only if the Devil is defeated & defamed not by ignorance but by be:coming the WISE ONE who follow’s the Star within- guidance is Lovers as Teachers whereby intelligence is put to good use & a journey to the path of Abundance in all seasons (winter, spring, summer, fall; fire, water, air, earth; pentacles, cups, swords, & wands; diamonds, hearts, spades, clubs); this is the story path of the human experience. All that said, it is true, that in REAL LIFE “suspension of disbelief” leaves big gaping voids of capitalizing on one’s personal/communal capabilities. So, I think your points are definitely VALID, but the demarcation between reality & “artificial intelligence”/make belief/story seems a bit ignorant of the fact of the matter: this is a story about GHOULS…@least our Hero/Heroine/Lover’s UNITED are not divided by Death. 😊💬💭💚📚🪄🖼️📖🪩♠️♥️♣️♦️♻️♾️⚠️🆔🕉️
Spoiler alert below! I believe I missed something, but the other residents of the household won't leave me alone long enough to re-listen. So the body of the painter had secretly been placed into a hidden room inside the home of the family's sworn enemy? Did I miss something? Or was this psychically undead corpse inside a hidden space behind the canvas?
Not only that but the Son must have broken into the house armed with nails, a hammer, a saw, several wooden boards and probably a tin of varnish as well as the coffin just to construct that hidden room! All without being noticed...
“You fool! Warren is temporarily unavailable, please leave a message after the tone…………..
PEEP! “
I wonder if anyone's gonna tell Warren has so many messages.
@@Safeguard1 Warren gets home: 'You have... 666 unheard messages.'
But Warren has learned: Do not call up that which you cannot hang up on.
One of my favorites. I think partly because the good guys finally win :)🌷🌱
Ian, you are one the very best narrators I've ever had the pleasure to listen to.
Excellent narration. Surprised by the great quality of the narrator.
I forgot it was Wednesday. Now my day is complete with Horrorbabble. 💀
same !!!
Ditto!
I hadn't forgotten, but it's almost always a highlight of any day.
That's a big leap from absence to completion.
Another great “Fringe” tale. Hope you plan to have another series!
9:00 I love how in these old stories the doctors inject opiates and sedatives at the drop of a hat.
Wasn’t that long ago they still did.
" got ghosts in your blood, do a morphine about it."
Patient is erratic? Opium.
Patient is melancholic? Cocaine.
Not sure what's wrong? Radium.
I love happy endings in horror stories.😊
What a brilliant story, accompanied by a brilliant reading. Thank you, sir.
This story was amazing in its own right but made even better by the telling. Ian, you possess the wondrous gift of storytelling. Lady Sybil was better than all the refined gold in this world!
With a name like The Ghoul Gallery, I can't believe I've never heard or read this story! Great find. Thanks all!
I know right. As soon as I saw the title I knew I had to hear it and I'm definitely glad I did.
@@c.shannon3914 😁👍
your mythos fringe series is shaking out nicely - great choices Ian
Dare I say ghoulishly good?😏 Sybil's fierce devotion in protecting Edward was truly moving, this one is definitely a winner!😄
A story that deserves to listen twice (at least). Thank you, Ian.
Nothing soothing me more than your elegant voice after a long day at work.❤
Thank you so much!

Excellent story and narration! Very good. Thank you Mr. Gordon and Horror Babble. Until next time.
Excellent!
Ghoul Gallery

What an amazing story and such wonderful narration 👍 Thank you 🙂❤️👍
Well, apparently these people need to call Carnacki.
Always want more ghoul content
A fantastic tale. I was truly satisfied with it and Ian's narration was perfect. As usual of course 🙂

"Skeletonic." Huh, that's a new one.
Also, this is why doctor-patient confidentiality is a thing.
nice to have a good old-fashioned horror story with a happier ending than usual. : )
Great job, Ian.

I really liked it!
The prose of the purple world drowning in adjectives
The most epic grudge 😧
Loved it, a very compelling story. Should be made a short movie, filmed in the style of The Lighthouse perhaps.
Great story !!! Thank you 😊
Reminds me of a Castlevania fan game I watched, where one of the places you explore is called "The Horror Gallery".
This is amazing. Now I'm moving on to the rest of the story. Thank you. Have a wonderful day 🤗💖🌟
ghoul of vengeance, i love it
I love Cave.
Listening from the ukwales❤

Moral of the story; beware of Greeks bearing gifts!

Old intro why?
If you mean the HB/RM intro, this is the intro that always accompanies the Rue Morgue collaboration series episodes.
❤
Is Warren still dead?
Very progressive of the author to make the young woman as a strong active character.
