Always fearful of the "expected" clapping at the end of the Molto Vivace.
    Good performance!

The grand master of emotion ... Pyotr Illitch Tchaikovsky ... Symphonie Pathetique ( 6th symphony in B minor op. 74 ) is a goddamned epic emotional rollercoaster masterpiece and my top one , after Berlioz 's Symphonie Fantastique , Dvorak 's Symphony ( from the New World ) , Schubert's 8th ( unfinished ) and Beethoven 's 5th symphony ! Great performance by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra !

One of the best versions I have ever seen or heard. The tempo is for me crucial in this piece, and the conductor for the most part does it just right for my taste. I grew up listening to the Pierre Monteaux version on RCA Gold Seal from 1957 on LP. Very impressive.

I grew up with Paul Paray and Sixten Ehrling. I saw them both conduct the Pathétique with the Detroit Symphony. Leonard Slatkin deserves a lot of credit for keeping the DSO at the same high level of musicianship I remember with Paray and Ehrling. Peter Oundjian is a top flight professional and he clearly is in sync with this terrific orchestra. Brilliant performance!

I saw the DSO do the 6th Symphony in 1966 at Ford Auditorium. It was oversold so I was seated on the stage behind the orchestra. Segovia was the soloist that night but I don't remember what piece he played. It was thrilling. I was in college.

There's one at every symphony concert. Someone needs to write a satirical work for orchestra and audience coughers.

really... i almost wonder sometimes if coughers are there from comepetitors, but that just seems crazy. Horowitz at Carnegie has him staring down one culprit while he's playing. Kuerti does that too. I would not want to be on the receiving end of that glare. I cough from previously being a smoker and nerves, thus, I don't go to concerts. If it calms down, I'll try it, but this sample here is the worst.

The performance is fine, conductor very good, video and sound quite good. Commercial interruptions in the middle of movements totally ruin the experience. I stopped watching. And I grew up in Detroit and greatly respect this orchestra. But I do not respect whoever decided to interrupt the video with commercials.

Origins of music unevidenced. Except it is gift to humanity from God the Creator. Music continues in heaven. Discontinues in hell.
Jesus Christ died and resurrected for remissions of everybody's pre-existing sins to save from eternal hell. Penalty of sin already paid by Jesus Christ on The Cross. Accept HIM. Be saved from eternal hell. Enter heaven. Enjoy heavenly music. For free.
