  • Comics come in a plethora of genres so it's time to take a break from Superheroes, and Marvel and DC (sorta on the latter lol) and take a look at Daytripper. A comic by Brazilian creators Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba this graphic novel asks the reader to ponder the relationship between day to day life and death.

And the joke about the name is that is a really old and bizarre name. It's hard to translate because looks like popular american names are the same since ever. But it was like Seaberst Beardsley or something unusual like that.

It's 1:30 am and I'm just casually scrolling through my youtube feed and I swear to god I read the thumbnail as "life is but a bread" and that somehow made enough sense for my sleep-deprived brain to go "hm ok makes sense" and continue scrolling for a few seconds before I realized how little sense that made.
Also somehow didn't realize it was one of Sasha's videos so I'm glad I looked back and didn't miss out!

What a great recommendation, as the Vertigo stuff started to get a little too self involved and angsty towards the end. This story seems more balanced. Proof that some ideas work better if you add or subtract one element. So thanks for a new item on my I'll-have-to-check-it-out list!
Here's some recommendations in a simular vein; Seekers: Into The Mystery by J.M. DeMattis, Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children (DC's Piranah Press), and American Splendor by Harvey Pekar.
Existential, wry, and slice of life. Or, as one of my favorite authors put it, "it was good, it would work, and no one had to get nailed to anything". Happy reading!

I read this when it came out. I thought it was older than 2010, so that was a surprise. I really really liked it. The art was great, and it was great reading something that was just about day to day life - it was a very different beast from the equally superb American Splendor - but I never quite loved it. I just never really got to grips with him dying at the end of every issue. That just never quite clicked for me.
I would happily recommended it all the same though. I honestly cannot remember the issue about his best friend that you mentioned. I think I need to find where I put my copies of this...

The copy I bought has the DC black label logo on it. I enjoyed it. The artwork is beautifull and Brás' life story felt both universal and personal. It reminds me of Sandman a little bit, when Destruction claimed that the Endless defines the opposite of what they represent, Destiny defines freedom, Despair defines hope and Death defines Life. Chapter 9 was my favorite.
