I played this out of the blue in my DJ set at the club tonight, and to my suprise (considering the wide age range on my floor at the time), the room went crazy for it! It blends surprisingly well into current stuff the kids like- like Kim Petras, Ava Max, Rina Sawayama, Ariana etc. Its something about the intro beat and the sincerity of the song that helps slide it in like butter with contemporary midtempo songs that gives the false illusion that its more modern than this song actully is.
