Razor Ruddock - Is a Canadian former professional boxer who competed from 1982 to 2001, and in 2015. A promising heavyweight of the late 1980s and early 1990s, Ruddock earned his nickname of "Razor" for his cutting jab, although he was better known for his powerful hybrid left hook/uppercut, which he called "The Smash". One of the best exhibitions of his left hand power was his brutal knockout of former WBA heavyweight champion Michael Dokes in 1990. Ruddock is also known for his two fights against Mike Tyson in 1991, and Lennox Lewis 1992.

I've said this my entire life.
Ruddocks left hook finisher in this clip is, without a shadow of a doubt, the finest, nastiest, most spiteful and perfectly executed hook I ever saw in my life.
It is an incredible punch.
Mean asf
he took 5 years of his life with that punch
I like that you called his smash 'spiteful' lol
This is what I'm looking for, this should be always included in all top KO clips in boxing
Lowkey reminds me of how merciless put it on Morrison back when they fought. Mercer looked like he wanted to kill Tommy with those last two hooks
It's amazing that Tyson weathered that "SMASH" at 1:47 that is such a powerful punch to the knockout button and Tyson's neck barely moves.
I saw the mouthpiece fly out of Tyson's mouth. I am scared.
Tyson is really made of iron
@@pizzaman9859 buster douglas had something to say about that
He did rock mike but mike is mike
I think tyson expected that much power from ruddock thats why he never went down against him.. otherwise even buster douglous power enough for him to go down.. but when he anticipated the power from ruddock he ate it beautifully
That long left uppercut type punch is special
Reemus Boxing the smash
It's like a shovelhook but at a high angle.
How was that even possible? A deal with the devil? That low long crossing/uppercut left with that kind of power is unique, it seems like it wouldn't be a good way to throw a punch but it was devastating
@@Beesa10 its a haymaker from below hahah speed is why that punch worked for him
@@tiberseptim1769 Ironed out by a haymaker from below haha
0:54 good God, he threw it like a spear 😳
F*cking brutal
He is probably one of the most underrated athletes in heavyweight boxing. Guys his size don't usually move that quickly with their whole body. The fact that he was a significant contender despite goofy skills speaks to his natural ability.
Ive been saying this for a decade on forums...ruddock is one of the most physically gifted heavyweights ever...fast hands and feet, great heart and chin (pre 1992),strong,pulverising power......the last gift isnt so complimentary...worst boxing IIQ in a top level boxer....neglected his right his jab post tyson
Makes you think what a monster a prime david haye was, same seize as ruddock just a lot more speed and power
Shame he went out like that
haye wasn't near ruddocks size, ruddock hit a lot harder as well.
He had good skills tho in my opinion
@@theinformationbomber7102 god damn that's a scary thought
During the 90s this guy was definitely among the best of the rest. Massive power and decent chin. Tyson fights took pretty much everything out of him.
francisjtuk neither one was ever the same after those two fights.
Yeah his chin is crazy, Mike tyson broke his jaw in the second fight in the early rounds and he lasted.
@@Samford404 I believe Tyson said after the fight that he was the hardest puncher he'd ever faced and tough as hell too.
@@francisjtuk Yea he said the famous "his punches feel like a mule kick" in the interview.
@@Samford404 damn right ! That would have felt nasty.
Thought I'd drop a Ruddock highlight before going back to my favourite boxers video, it should be uploaded by Friday. The smash! Devastating punch.
I saw the first fight with Mike Tyson, and man this guy had a heart of a warrior truly a gifted power puncher that could hurt you with that deadly uppercut he possess, and in the second fight with Mike Tyson truly showed what he was made of showing that true warrior like Arturo Gatti getting up from the knockdowns from a beast like Mike Tyson, and he really hurted Mike tyson in different parts of the fight, even Mike's mouthpiece fell of his mouth from that deadly uppercut, truly this guy could have been a champion going to the distance with a broken jaw against a beast like Mike Tyson in his prime this guy truly earned my most serious admiration, and respect a true fan of his from a mexican fan. To my Jamaican and Canadian Hermanos 🇲🇽🙏🔥🇯🇲🇨🇦🤝
Big up from ja
Indeed...that signature uppercut was truly devastating...
That’s not an uppercut, it’s a SMASH!!
Don't disagree with your assessment, but Tyson was well past his prime by time he fought ruddock. Vs spinks was last time we saw a prime tyson.
@@Heavyweight-kh8ss nah this fight was before his trainer died so he was still in his prime
It's a shame that Ruddock's management got rid of George Chuvalo as his trainer. Chuvalo knew how to fight, and more importantly knew how to prepare for a fight. Chuvalo believed that boxing should be approached as a contact sport, like American football; you prepare to inflict pain but to also incur pain. Getting rid of that brain, especially after the Michael Dokes fight, was stupid.
Absolutely! Patterson tried to incorporate a more conventional boxing style in him. Made him think to much about what he was doing instead of doing what was more natural to him.
Lol he's the beastly athletic type of HW that makes you glad you're in the lower divisions
Reemus Boxing. Lol, right.
SENDO!
The pride of Ozaka, the tiger, Rocky of Naniwa!!!
THE NANIWA TIGER
Whats?
It's not called Sendo, its name is razor ruddock, and it's not Naniwa Haha XD
@@CapitanGladion lemme explain.
There is a character from a boxing anime.
Its name is sendo the tiger of naniwa and his special punch is the smash.
One of the most beautiful punch in the industry. A punch that could easily slip through defense. Razor is a genius to even innovates punch like that.
Always amazed me to see a fighter throw a strange/different punch, or be able to fire that shot from a weird angle that defies logic. How Ruddock was able to put so much power into that half hook half uppercut is absolutely insane. It's his lead hand, which makes it more impressive. He's not winding up to throw it either, he's firing that punch like a jab, he doesn't telegraph it at all.
Right! He fires it like a piston!
One of the sickest left hooks ever. Unforgettable
Its an uppercut
Its literally both 😅 its like a long range shovel hook@@Johnacegaynor
Underrated warrior, one of a kind fighter
Razor Ruddock and Mike Tyson's first fight might just be one of the greatest heavyweight boxing matches I have ever whitensed. The amount of power they both put behind their punches and the fact they both were able to handle that kind of power was amazing. Carnage pure carnage is exactly what that fight was. Shit was like some Gatti vs Ward type shit but at heavyweight, they are both extremely lucky no one got seriously hurt. True warriors, both of them.
Such a sweet mover, his second fight with Mike Tyson was one of the best ever.
I believe he’s one of the hardest punchers ever. I think that last left that ko’d dokes is the hardest punch delivered in a boxing ring.
I wouldn't quite go that far but he was definitely a powerful puncher for sure. He generated great leverage with that left
@@hanzagod yep understood but in the slow motion replay of that final shot, Dokes head wobbles like he was in a car crash or something.
Oh for sure that was a devastating knockout
haNZAgod even tyson said he punches like a mule kick
Enbear yea he’s definitely a hard puncher but just not on the level of other guys
Best drop step in HW history w/o a doubt. Absolutely lethal move when done correctly like Ruddock did often.
*I love this*
...... You should have thrown more at Ippo...
It should have been able to break his plot armor against you....
Ive loved this video for years, happy to see its still up. Best Ruddock highlight ive ever seen.
Glad you like it!
Those Razor-Tyson fights were awesome.
Definitely underrated power! Also has decent feet for a heavy! Could definitely win against anybody if the opponent let too many blows through. Head snaps!
the smash? more like brain damage.
Yes, brain smash
smashes their brains
0:55 gave ME a damn concussion
He is a fantastic boxer. This guy if he was born in another era like the current, I'm almost certain he be world champion. Fast, big puncher, good skills with the awkward technique Smash and very good durability. He is trouble to anyone after all there aren't that many who could get to the 7th round with Mike (anyone watches could also say it seems premature the stoppage as it seems he was good to continue) and then in the 2nd fight being able to go the distance and he wasn't a punching bag, he actually a formidable opponent giving Mike trouble!
The more I think about the more I believe he would have dominated if he was in this era. It's a shame really because he was champion boxer level but of course the other's like Mike and Lennox are better and were dominating the division.
I know he got KO by Lennox in 2 rounds but I think he lost a lot of his durability post Mike's fight. No's going to come out completely fine after the two gruelling fight he went with.
Then you got Tommy Morrison who was dominating and pretty much just bulldozed through everyone, Donnovan had over a year break, comes without any warm up fights agaisnt Journeyman's and instead went straight to fighting Tommy Morrison the Duke! And he actually almsot won but got careless and lost in the 6th round. He was so close to winning against Tommy. this says a lot about Donnovan. In this era he would beat Wilder for sure, he has the durability to take some of Wilder's punches and in return giving Wilder the Smash. Well we know what will happen after.
I think he could beat David Haye when Haye was WBA champ and I think he can take Joshua. Fury I think he can too if he can land a few of those smashes. Donnovan had the speed and skills to get it done. Dangerous boxers wouldn't know what hit them. these Prospects like adam kownacki would have no place agaisnt Donnovan when he gives them a smash. Donnovan can certainly beat Charles Martin.
I rly can't see donovan being a champ in any Era, his skillet was limited, and only had the smash
@@victorianicolau9431worst boxing take I've heard in my life
I know this post is old but you make some darn good points. The sad part is not only would Razor Ruddock have shined in today's era he would have been paid what he is truly worth. Those fighters back then gave us classic fights for pennies on the dollar. Today's fighters get paid ten times as much and are afraid to take any chances.
This guy was amazing. I hadn't heard of him till I watched Tyson's fights. Smash
The Sendo guy in Hajime no Ippo, he really punches like this guy. Super sharp like wtf.
Isn’t that where they got the punch from?

BRUTAL
3:01 Ohhh Lord!!!!!!
Absolutely devastating.
He already ate one that had him frozen that last shot definely damaged him for life
1:04 sendo smash
that's just a jab to set up an uppercut , this was not a smash , and it's very common actually , but risky. it's usually set up by double jabs and it's even called the knock knock by most coach like teddy atlas
exactly , out of all this video with very few "real" uppercuts you manage to chose one of the rarest time he throws a uppercut and called it the smash...typical hajime no ippo fan lmao
and like the guy above said , it's the safest way to pull out a uppercut (with the right hand), floyw mayweather used that knock knock strat against canelo and i believe it's actually the main reasons why people say canelo got schooled , he looked like an amateur taking those set ups punch twice in a row
@@marcisarn2365 Who tf...
that punch is a whole stance. a quickly fused blast that starts from his feet and posture
The swing of his punch was so deadly it hits like a hammer wow..
For a guy who was supposedly only a left-hand puncher, he threw some pretty nasty right hands
in this montage.
haNZAgod, think about doing a highlight for Ken Lakusta, the most unexpected guy who fought the biggest punchers from multiple generations.
Ruddock vs Lyle would have been an interesting fight
Lyle is a tank and a much hard hitter than Ruddock. Ruddock's got that suspect chin that is a great disadvantage.
Ron Lyle would full on MURK Razor Ruddock.
Lol nostalgia has blinded u, ruddock would smash little lyle.
ruddock wins.
His Smash Uppercut would get him no doubt
"Razor Ruddock dies. If he doesn't die it doesn't count"
George Havenhand "I don't know why you talk to me like that when you know I'll kill you for it"
Lol mike stole that line from flash gordon
Definetly killed his career lol, he got a broken jaw after the second fight with mike tyson, making his jaw very Vulnareble to punches
An absolute legend
A fast and extremely powerful puncher. Skilful with it and comes across as a real likeable chap.
He had the good night uppercut special that could assure you a good night's sleep. LOL
When Ruddock would punch full force with either hand, the power and speed seemed inhuman. It looked like a spring. I'd go as far as to say he's the MOST explosive boxer in history, his absolutely insane acceleration of his hands making them extremely fast and powerful is unmatched. If anyone knows of any boxer who had the same ability to make it look like their body was a SPRING, I would love to hear it. Man, that springy acceleration and power seemingly coming out of nowhere is so fascinating to look at.
When that smash punch landed, it was THE END.
had to watch on half speed on a lot of these.. incredible.
That left uppercut hook....oh my gosh. When you took that shot, you went right to sleep.
Man Razor Rudduck is underrated as hell has wins over multiple former world champions such as Mike Dokes/James Smith/Mike Weaver/Greg Page and had 2 hellacious fights with Tyson
Also gave tommy "the duke" morrison a very good fight before getting stopped in 6
@@victorianicolau9431 he certainly good he dropped him heavy to

Great Video, gives deserved credit to a good fighter. So much for Wilder questioning tyson's opponements...
Wilder is horrible. Got exposed and beat up.
That Nasty left is a thing of pure beauty
I never thought a punch could go through a guard like it wasn't there holy shit
Joshua vs the young razor ruddock would be a fight I would love to watch anyone else ?
Glass jaw Joshua. Joshua is too slow
Scary puncher
Bonecrusher fell slowly like a big oak while razor watched like a woodcutter. Sorta like Ali watching Foreman
That punch kind of reminds me if Rocky Marciano's Susie Q It's just a crushing looking blow.
Big guy with smashing left hook/uppercut
It's impressive how fast it is.
0:34 by far one of the cleanest right crosses iv ever seen
Whenever I saw the guy's neck Ben backwards like that all I could think was, I'm glad that ain't me. When you look at some of these guys leaning on the ropes after that smash, I think some of them were already out, but just haven't gone down yet.
Always loved Razor. Hope he is doing well. Entertained me a lot.

A gifted athlete who possessed explosive power in both hands. It was a myth that razor ruddock never had a right hand, he just never used it as he was too reliant on his left hook and uppercut. A wasted talent who just needed to polish his technical skills.
the song very fitting great video
The real life sendo!!
He was one of the best 90s fighters
The only problem with Ruddock ws-- he was not consistent and a bit erratic. . Suddenly getting knocked down & smilingly getting up again. This inconsistency harmed him otherwise --a true champion material.

More like given him a broken jaw.
Woulda killed aj. Aj is soft
there's a clip of sonny liston knocking down roy harris with this punch. the announcer called it a smashing left hook. wonder if that's where he really got it from.
Ruddock's signature punch was a hybrid between a left hook and a left uppercut. Liston knocked Harris out with a left hook, not the same punch.
Great video
Great fighter that left hand was a killer fr
Amazing

I watched tommy flatten him with a left hook. Razor was one of the best left hooks in boxing during his time.
