the "spine" is definitely meant to be a chain meant for Battletrap and his wrecking ball, they based it on the trailer thinking it was Optimuw's weapon not realizing he took it from Battletrap during the final fight scene
If I remember correctly - during a TF fanstream when they announced SS Primal they flat-out admitted they had room to include SS Optimus's axe (which can plug into his wrist port) and Battletrap's chain. They just used him as an excuse to drop the extra weapons ^,^
For my own Battletrap, I just used the second chain to tighten up the peg connection of the first one, so he's got one on either side of the 5mm hole in his hand.
The axe is for Optimus Prime and the chain ("spine") is for Battle trap. Although, if I recall, you can plug the two parts of the transparent key into either end of of the chain for a kunai style weapon
Yay ^^ I enjoy this guy, but yeah; definite pros and cons with this and Mainline Voyager Primal...I think that the latter has the better gorilla mode as well ^^ Especially with the forearm pieces...I compared to the movie's appearance to see if the Hasbro guys did an error, but no, it's the way it wants you to do it...thing is, it's more 'representative' than accurate, if that makes sense. But yeah, those larger pieces look better on the outside on both modes because it's a better silhouette. Thing is, SS Voyager Rhinox does something similar; the front rhino limbs look like they're turned the wrong way around because the robotic detailing is on the outer-side of the limbs, while the more animal-looking parts are on the inside...Very peculiar thing to double down on across two figures!
Yeah...the axe was intended for SS102 RotB Optimus Prime. And the McGuffin you couldn't recall was the Transwarp Key. Now, I'm not sure if the movie had a certain other "boss monkey" as bigger than Optimus Primal; if so, we're kinda screwed (because that Voyager ain't worthy of the line), but if not, then we need a repaint of SS106 Optimus Primal as a Studio Series RotB Apelinq. Yes, APELINQ. I find their lack of Apelinq disturbing.
So, I got the voyager Optimus Primal in the Leader class box from Walmart for 5$. I brought the box to the service desk and told them that it wasn't the right figure in the box.
On the tow arm pieces on Battletrap's arms, there's that post on the black panels that stick out, which you should be able to attach the chain onto so he can swing his wrecking ball. I commended with a picture on Twitter to show you what I'm talking about.
The instructions are wrong about how his arms are supposed to be transformed. The furry parts are always supposed to face outward and the articulation allows for the elbows' direction to be reversed, similar to the Transmetal and Optimal figures. Also, you do have to twist the gorilla hand 180 degrees before folding it into the arm. the shape of the thumb will fit into the recess of the round black panel. don't forget to unfold the heels from the robot feet. Overall, the easiest thing to do is (beast to robot) transform the limbs first and save the torso for last.
Here before optimuw primal is fixed
If you swing out battletraps tow arm there is a 3mm port you can plug the chain onto (his left arm). I've got him posed mid-wrecking swing!

The axe can be held by Studio Series Rise of the Beasts Optimus Prime

That makes a lot more sense. The arms just look weird the other way round.
