- Is it the steapest? No. Is it the glnarliest? No. Super huge features? No. But one of my favorite things to do in pisgah is shuttling up to the blue ridge parkway and doing massive point to point shuttle runs. My favorite is pilot rock to full pull on black mountain back to the hub bike shop. In the past upper black mountain was a wild trench with tons of water bar drops and was super cool as it ran straight down the ridge. But, as you can imagine it got erroded more and more each year. So, they re-did it a few years ago into a more sustainable trail. Now, I'm not a huge fan of redoing trails for the sake of redoing them and more often than not I think they lose their original character and turn black diamonds into green circles. But, I was pretty impressed with this re-route and I was worried it wasn't going to be my favorite ride anymore with the re-route. I have to say I was happily wrong and it did not dissapoint, and is still IMO the sickest ride in the Pisgah area! Haven't been on the new version of Black Mountain but the old washed out gnarly version was EPIC. Hands down the best I ever rode and easily worth the 10 hour drive to get there.
The old version was definitely sick. But that's why I named the video what I did cuz its still the sickest run IMO. Yes it's laid out different and isn't straight down the gut but what it lacks now in fall line blasting it makes up with really good flow and is insanely fun. The only thing that would make it even better is some more prominent features to double sections etc.
If you liked Old Black, don't waste your time on new Butter Gap.
Everyone who remembers the old version being good is delusional. The new work made the trail waaay better and more fun. The old one was basically a drainage ditch
@@bchearne Flying down that drainage ditch at mach chicken was a thrill and fear inducing. That's why it's remember 6 years later.
That hike a bike is worth the pay off 🤙🏼 Check out Buckwheat next time you’re down.
I’m ready to go back!
Same... might go late fall with the fam. Other than that I feel another spring trip 2025...
These trails remind me some of what we have in VT but so much longer and better. What even compares here in NE? Nice!!
The only thing that comes close in New England to comparing to this is probably fatbiking in the white mountains lol... there are some big mountain rides in NH but they aren't smooth like this or purpose built for mtb at all. All hiking trails... maybe north conway
Any time you want to go do that again….. I mean I wouldn’t be mad
I am in! Fall or spring... or maybe both haha
it was definitely one of the best rides in the area when I last rode it.... 20 years ago!
Haha yep... that's why I said still!
One of my favorite trails on the east coast!
Same... but quebec is slowly creating into my top trails
Absolutely Ripping
I try! 😉
James crushing it!
As usual
Wouldn’t it be nice if the Black Mountain trail wasn’t dozens of miles away from the town of Black Mountain? Confusing name
