I also heard a tip about carrying crates to create high ground scenarios, block paths, and create artificial choke points for groups of enemies for terrain advantages. Don’t forget to pick them back up when you’re done. Also if you run into a wall, go around it, sneak around it. Most battles have multiple ways to avoid or sneak past enemy groups for preemptive strikes. You can even talk yourself out of battles if your charisma is high enough. Most importantly, remember everything is RNG. Even with a high chance of success you can and will fail checks from time to time. Don’t get discouraged, think outside the box. remember if you can think of the scenario there’s a really good chance the game mechanics will let you do it surprisingly.
About shoving, it’s also really good to use it if you want to reposition your character but are unable to move without triggering attacks of opportunity. Even the weakest strength characters, upon a successful shove, will move an enemy far enough away that you can then move without being attacked by them. I’ve used this countless times, especially with the party members that I use primarily for ranged attacks.
I think the idea is to try the shove as a bonus action since disengaging is an action, that way you can still attack with a bow or cast an important spell as your main action. Shove can also be a good “I have nothing else I can really do and the enemy is next to a cliff so why not try” style option.
An extremely helpful tip, put all your reaction abilities on Ask, you can do that inside the spellbook of each character, on the tab reactions. If you leave just on toggle, they will use a lot of resources at wrong moments.

Another tip I could add is that you can enter turn based mode even outside of combat. This allows you to position all of your characters into ideal combat or ambush positions. .It's broken down into 6 second intervals between your characters and the world around you. The power of this comes from the fact that you can get a surprise sneak attack with all four characters before combat officially starts. Game changer.

Also there are a lot more enemies than there are player characters in most combat scenarios. So in theory, the enemy AI is getting more use of the Karmic dice than your characters, thus giving you a disadvantage.
@@eddyspeddy Yeah, that is the one case where it might make a difference but I am pretty sure Larian accounted for that. The whole reason they did karmic dice was because of how poor humans are at understanding probability. How some people just can't understand how they missed a 90% shot. Or that once you miss a 90% shot the chances of you missing the next 90% shot are 1 in 10, even though the odds of missing two in a row is 1in 100. This is the confusion the setting is trying to alleviate. When true randomness is used, most players feel victimized, like the game is cheating against them. X-Com is a perfect example. And even X-Com is not truly random but weighted slightly in favor of the player.
@@bf5175 Yeh, I'm just saying, I've played a significant amount of time using both settings since launch and can confirm karmic dice does make combat harder in the big fights. I have a tip for vendors, on the bottom right you see a sort of meter with a smiley, the more to the right it is the more they like you, and the more they like you the more they pay for your items, and the cheaper they sell you items. If you start off with a vendor of just gifting them crap items, that still has some gold value, the meter will go towards the green, once full in green your vendor is ready for proper business. To gift items basically enter barter as normal, then plop items into the sell area, and click barter. Don't click the scales to get gold from it, just barter it for free. Very quickly they love you and you earn way more overall than the small loss of the items you gave them.
my understanding is 'karmic dice' applies to mobs too, and makes the battles harder. I turned it off and encounters are easier. two things I found I can't do with the controller UI that forces me to switch to k/m: multiclassing (the button is literally missing) and there isn't an easy way to switch from melee and ranged weapons while out of combat (you sort of can if you un-equip and re-equip) it also doesn't pull from containers (like backpacks) that are in your inventory. I don't mind that you can't name them (you can't in real life), but it is annoying that you can't draw from them. (like I had a backpack of scrolls, but Gale couldn't see them to learn. but they're seen if in your inventory)
Barbarian/monk specific tip: helmets, gauntlets, and the like count as various types of armor. If your character has the “unarmored defense” ability, helmets and stuff like them can and will count as armor and remove that extra ac. If your Karlach has an ac of 11 in the early game, be sure to check and make sure she has NOTHING on her that classifies as light, medium, or heavy armor, such as a metal helm. Admittedly I’ve not seen a monk yet, but I assume it works the same way. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
Why do all the companions start with so many odd ability scores. Karlach has an odd score in strength, con, and Dexterity. I used my level 4 asi to bump up her con and Dexterity which immediately bumped up her unaromered defense from 13 to 15. I will probably give her a half feat at level 8 that bumps up her strength score by 1 like athlete.
I assume a lot of the odd numbers are to encourage two different skill bumps at level 4 using the asi, such as what you did with Karlach. It’s actually not a bad idea imo to put your main character at two odd numbers as well if you know the game well and plan to take the asi or two different “half feats” (feats that give a bonus and a 1 point boost to a score). For example: Iirc Lae’zel starts with a 17 strength. Giving her the heavy armor master feat not only helps her hit more by raising strength by one to an 18, but gives her the perk of reducing damage from non-magic attacks by 3. The usefulness of the damage reduction is debatable, but for some that can be totally worth it, especially since she’s a fighter by default and will get more feats than most other characters.
I've been playing tabletop 5th edition DnD for years now. Its interesting to see non-DnD players describe the combat as tough when most 5e players I know complain about the system being too easy and simple. Larian definitely did a good job translating the system for the most part though.
Unless your Ranger is melee focused, the term ranger doesn't actually have anything to do with using ranged weapons, it means a person that travels great distances. Hence why you have ones that do prefer bows and others like Drizzt or Misnc (or Aragorn in TLoTR) that use swords and like to be in the thick of the fighting.
One I was hoping you'd say is that you should send all of your camp supplies to the camp. If you travel to camp you can use them straight from the chest.
one thing I wish I knew before I started is how good a diet this game is. I can go without eating for 16 hours at a time since I COMPLETELY forget to eat. its wonderful for fasting. Im 100% sure I'll be found dead IRL because I didnt pass the death from starvation saving throw
This is one of the few games that I didn't mind backtracking to a much earlier save, losing 5 hours of progress and making the same exact major decisions just because I missed a rather irrelevant conversation with a minor npc. BG3 is truly an RPG masterpiece.
This game beat the ever loving shit out of me on normal until I finally learned how to really approach combat. I had never played a cRPG before, so I was fighting like I would in an old SNES Final Fantasy game, or a Persona game. I wasn't taking movement or the environment much into account. Now that I'm doing things like immediately jumping to a higher position before casting damage spells, or making the ground wet before casting lightning etc., I'm winning fights. It's awesome. It's super fun. P.S. Nice touch having the Origins music in the background.
I don't remember loving any game as much as I am with BG3 since Mass Effect 2 came out. With all the DnD classes, races, sub classes, etc. there's so much replayability
I never played any these games before i’m playing on easy difficulty and so far I’m enjoying it. I might bump up the difficulty once I get used to the game 😂.
Hey, in another video, you said you were creating your own game! Congratulations for diving in. I can't wait to see what you create. Love your videos. Be well!!
Love the tips! Definitely do more, i need all the help i can get. My tip is just dont be scared to respec (you’ll be able to within a few hours after starting, i dont think you can miss it) So for me, my cantrips were a bad choice, so i just respecced to get new cantrips. It’s easy, its helpful and it can make the long game more fun if youre really vibing with your character and not wishing you could do something else
I want to add this because theres an article that literally says you can't do this and nobody I've watched has mentioned this. You can change your party members class. You change to the party member before you talk to skeleton man. Every video ive watched never mention this and alm characters are always on default class. 😅😅
Additional tip: Don't do Metagaming. (character builds, quest guides, check consequences for your actions, etc.) I see a lot of Meta guides here on RUclips, but I think that most cRPG's like BG3 are at their best when you make your own experience. If you follow Meta-guides then you're just following on someone else's footsteps.
I think you should get a suit and make the character “MR LARIAN” just like Mr bethesda!! Also definitely do more of these!! Maybe 20 or 30 tips!! I would binge the hell out of that!
Ive never been interested in these type of games if im being honest, but I would like to try this one. Yet im scared to purchase this game and not enjoy it
Orient your crew (2:25)? How do you do this? I'm talking to Kith'rak Voss too and when choosing Character Select, does nothing, still Lae'zel talking and can't move whoever I've selected
I wouldn't recommend karmic dice. It affects enemies too and they are doing 400% more dmg. And your armor class doesnt matter anymore so tank is useless.
When people talk about the extreme difficulty of Baldur's Gate 3, are they usually playing on the highest difficulty setting? I'm on the Balanced setting and it seems.... Balanced. My team was wiped twice (both times on the final goblin boss), but I havent died since then and I just finished act 1. It's my first time playing a CRPG, but it actually seems much more accessible than I expected. I can imagine things are much harder if you don't do side content to gain advantages though (eg. poisoning goblins in the courtyard before they turn aggressive). I'm loving the game overall, even as someone with no D&D experience.
Love these types of videos, as a dad I can’t always dive into the mechanics of radial wheel organization, and other minor tweaks to games so would love another video like this in the future. Maybe a “for a rainy day” type of video haha
Im going to keep bugging you Matty, you gotta play the first two BG games! Yes theyre old and use archaic D&D 2e, but once you understand the systems (there's tons of RUclips tutorials) theyre so good! The Beamdog enhanced editions helped with some modern QoL improvements like zooming the camera, etc. Both games are masterpieces in my book, and i think BG2 is one of the best CRPGs ever made.
One thing this game will do - erase your social life and become your life..and you will love every second of it XD One tip- do not forget to eat, sleep and shower, use your alarm for this......you will need this.
They've mentioned improving the controller support when the playstation version comes out. I imagine a lot of that will be with the radial wheels. Would be great if they were auto organized similarly to the sections of the hotbar
the combat RNG bs in this game is seriously sapping any fun outta it, its nonsense how I constantly wind up missing at least 4 attacks in a row. Currently stuck on one boss fight with an ugly half-orc woman (didnt say who said ugly woman is to avoid spoilers) in a small room where she can counteract your spells and her buddies get a ridiculously op AoE ability that blinds u and cant get outta it due to how bottlenecked u are into the start area tbh this game does a pretty poor job at explaining combat aside from the brief pop up at the start
Wait you can move characters while in dialogue that makes things so much easier the amount of times i had to spend like 4 turns just to get close to enemies was frustrating
They should give you Xanax with this game and let people know when you come home from work and boot this game up your second job begins . What a mess of a game . Roll some dice and let fate decide the outcome for a game you spent money on . Insane

i wish i know the game was going to be so damn good... it's been a long damn time since i can think about nothing but playing a certain game. GOTY. my biggest tip is slow down and explore. if you bounce from one quest to the next you're going to be horribly weak and miss out on a TON
I would recommend trying it out anyway. I think the game is amazing. As was mentioned there are beginner non-spoiler video guides. As well, here are a few ideas for newbie-friendly classes if you’d like (if you’re not interested you can stop reading here): Fighter: A classic easy-to-play option. Make your highest stat strength (you swing a sword, like, really hard) or dexterity (you prefer your pain to be delivered from a mile away). You attack, you click the “second wind” option if you’re hurt, then you end your turn. Barbarian: Similar to fighter but more limited to close up combat. You bump up strength, get angry, and go swing a big axe. Warlock: If you want my opinion on the simplest spell caster and a good talker. Make charisma high, pick the “eldritch blast” cantrip, and every turn you pew-pew at enemies. Apologies if this wall of text seems like an over-explained mess of a reply. I have a lot of hours in and I truly believe this is a phenomenal game. People owe it to themselves to at least give it a shot. Legitimately hope this helps.

it also doesn't pull from containers (like backpacks) that are in your inventory.
It does you aren't supposed to wear armor as them.
@@XanderHarris1023 not sure but I'm guessing so they are open to feats.
This is my first crpg thats this in depth and so far, I'm not disappointed
good tips! I also suggest using talk to animals/dead as much as possible. It opens up new dialogue and also has some interesting outcomes on quests.
@@LTNetjak there's a feat i think to avoid those penalties to fire bows at close combat
people tend to think ranger as Legolas.
and there are those!@Broskisnowski
@Broskisnowski I mean what do Park Rangers do? Trek around parks.
Which would just be an archer@@hellscorpio82
I recently learned you can throw healing potions to heal allies. Has helped so much.
It also helps you heal NPCs without a healer or healing spells. I used it on an unconscious NPC when Shadowheart wasn’t in my party at the time.
Ill add to that: throwing it on the floor creates an AoE heal so if 2 characters are stacked up.. yeah.
One I was hoping you'd say is that you should send all of your camp supplies to the camp. If you travel to camp you can use them straight from the chest.
Inspiration Points : if you get more than 4, it gives extra XP (since it is 4 maximum).
Save, Load, reload, reload, save, story, re-load, story, save, load, save.
Backtrack to previous load. Chapter 1 intro complete.
Do NOT extract all ingredients! I have accidentally destroyed a quest related item because it was listed as an alchemy item. It doesnt respawn!
Camp supplies fill up the most I usually send supplies in the bag to camp resulting in less weight.
Started shoving recently, its been a game changer
You can do this in d and d also.
one thing I wish I knew before I started is how good a diet this game is. I can go without eating for 16 hours at a time since I COMPLETELY forget to eat. its wonderful for fasting. Im 100% sure I'll be found dead IRL because I didnt pass the death from starvation saving throw
Lmao 🤣
This is one of the few games that I didn't mind backtracking to a much earlier save, losing 5 hours of progress and making the same exact major decisions just because I missed a rather irrelevant conversation with a minor npc. BG3 is truly an RPG masterpiece.
I think the circle or highlight setting is broken. When I select circle only, everything still highlights.
With the Githyanki patrol, I had no time to prepare as Lae'zel just ran off to meet them & I had to run after her to keep up 😆
You just know Matty immediately spat out that bite of food once the recording stopped 😂
1 thing I wish I knew. When it was in early access, no problems. Now, my computer overheats amd shuts off after 10-15min.
I love this game! It took me a bit to get used to the turn based combat but after awhile it became easier for me. This is my 1st baldurs gate game.
I don't remember loving any game as much as I am with BG3 since Mass Effect 2 came out. With all the DnD classes, races, sub classes, etc. there's so much replayability
Not tried pathfinder?
I love how you keep using the Cyseal theme from DOS1 in your video. Whilst simple, I think its my favourite theme from that game.
Love the Dragon Age Origins music in the background Matty, especially since Larian Studios has now become the new BioWare to many gamers haha.
Is there any update to when the game will come to the Microsoft store for either Xbox or PC? Only word i can find on it was from 6 and 5 months ago.
I never played any these games before i’m playing on easy difficulty and so far I’m enjoying it. I might bump up the difficulty once I get used to the game 😂.
Same man! No shame in it
I'm on normal having a blast so far. I ain't used to turn based and crpgs so I took me a minute but I'm getting there. What matters is your fun!
My plan is to play on easy first, and bump it up to Tactician for my second play through.
Started on normal and it isn't to hard honestly. The only annoying part is the dice roll every now and then.
I started on normal and ended up bumping it down to easy
Hey, in another video, you said you were creating your own game! Congratulations for diving in. I can't wait to see what you create. Love your videos. Be well!!
Love the tips! Definitely do more, i need all the help i can get.
My tip is just dont be scared to respec (you’ll be able to within a few hours after starting, i dont think you can miss it)
So for me, my cantrips were a bad choice, so i just respecced to get new cantrips.
Additional tip:
Don't do Metagaming. (character builds, quest guides, check consequences for your actions, etc.)
I see a lot of Meta guides here on RUclips, but I think that most cRPG's like BG3 are at their best when you make your own experience.
If you follow Meta-guides then you're just following on someone else's footsteps.
Karmic dice also stops you also getting a critical success streak as well. works both ways.
either way a go with the rolls of no karmic dice
who else pre ordered BG3 on ps5 playing a game of avoiding spoilers lol added this to a playlist i will watch before the ps5 release.
I'm in the same boat. Trying to avoid spoilers like a plague. A little hard but maybe saving videos to watch before release would help.
I like the choice of Dragon Age background music in your video ;)
I think you should get a suit and make the character “MR LARIAN” just like Mr bethesda!! Also definitely do more of these!! Maybe 20 or 30 tips!! I would binge the hell out of that!
The dragon age music in the background is making me want to try a new origin
Ive never been interested in these type of games if im being honest, but I would like to try this one. Yet im scared to purchase this game and not enjoy it
same here xd
Same the combat seems like I wouldn’t enjoy it but I think I’m just gonna jump in for myself
Orient your crew (2:25)? How do you do this? I'm talking to Kith'rak Voss too and when choosing Character Select, does nothing, still Lae'zel talking and can't move whoever I've selected
Game is a serious time investment. You'll get drawn in and before you know it your 6 a.m. alarm for work is going off.
Wait the controller support on Pc is actually good?
One thing this game will do - erase your social life and become your life..and you will love every second of it XD
One tip- do not forget to eat, sleep and shower, use your alarm for this......you will need this.
Currently stuck on one boss fight with an ugly half-orc woman (didnt say who said ugly woman is to avoid spoilers) in a small room where she can counteract your spells and her buddies get a ridiculously op AoE ability that blinds u and cant get outta it due to how bottlenecked u are into the start area
tbh this game does a pretty poor job at explaining combat aside from the brief pop up at the start
Good video Matty. Thanks for the tips
What's the background music for this video?
Wait you can move characters while in dialogue that makes things so much easier the amount of times i had to spend like 4 turns just to get close to enemies was frustrating
I've never played a DND game or a turn base or CRPG I'm super interested should I give it a shot?
Would you recommend controller play? I am used to it for Rocket league but not for this type of game.
So hyped for the PlayStation 5 release
They should give you Xanax with this game and let people know when you come home from work and boot this game up your second job begins . What a mess of a game . Roll some dice and let fate decide the outcome for a game you spent money on . Insane
These were awesome tips Matty, another tip video would be much appreciated my guy
6:41 Yoooooo, your character is called Rufus Albarea? I see you, sneaky lil trails reference
When everyone says “it will kick your butt”, is that even on its “easy” setting, or is everyone just playing on the balanced setting?
Mash potatoes and corn cure migraines? These tips are next level
I am a big fan of this type of video coming from you, Matty! More, please 😛
Thunder Wave is a caster's best friend. best level 1 spell for damage and push factor for getting away if needed. also who doesn't like clapping a bish off a cliff. lol
Aww thats cool when saw the begining add i thought it be another ingredients pack like hello fresh but a delivery service for ready meals that sounds great
Repositioning, during dialog, is a cool tip : did not think of that.
Great tips, man! I haven’t actually been hearing the majority of these, so that was awesome! Great content as always, Matty!
what about the save and reload tactic ?
i wish i know the game was going to be so damn good... it's been a long damn time since i can think about nothing but playing a certain game. GOTY.
my biggest tip is slow down and explore. if you bounce from one quest to the next you're going to be horribly weak and miss out on a TON
I feel like karmic dice were making me fail more at things I'm very very good at. Can't say for sure but I turned it off lol
I didn’t enjoy DoS and hope this game does it for me
I really want to play it but it seems so deep and complex that I'm honestly a little intimidated
Trust me, it's worth the learning curve. There are so many BG3 beginner youtube videos out, watch a couple and jump in and you'll be more than fine.
I would recommend trying it out anyway. I think the game is amazing.
As was mentioned there are beginner non-spoiler video guides. As well, here are a few ideas for newbie-friendly classes if you’d like (if you’re not interested you can stop reading here):
Fighter: A classic easy-to-play option.
The Dragon Age soundtrack in the background suits this game so much. ❤
three 1's in a row- LOVE it!! I reloaded.. :)
