music is all about what sounds good. doesnt matter if he used pedal or not. plus, old school pianofortes still had a way of sustaining, you would raise the keys up with your knee.
I'm like half way through this and suddenly I realize that its been going on for, like, 10 minutes. Kudos to you, Paul Barton, for such an amazing memory!
Your making me a believer in classical piano. Nailed this piece by Mozart. I think we could start converting new believers with this video. Very, very good and seemingly effortless and flowing, like water running down a wooded stream...ty
I've never known that Mozart's pieces would sound fantastic with a pedal. The second slow movement sounds so romantic rather than classical.. Nice playing.
@Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart i can play the 1st movement, just managed to sight read the 2nd movement yesterday , was patchy but pleased with my progress, and also managed to get through half way in the 3rd movement, the importance is keep practising, there is a well known saying practise makes perfect, and I am humbly seeing the benefits of doing this.
I'm 11 and I can play this! You inspired me for studiing this! Thank you! Now I'm gonna play this in a piano competition. Sorry for my bad English I'm hungarian.
This is actually a pretty easy piano piece. No hard chords, rhythm is moderately pace, and a lot of it is just scales. It's a great piece to learn rudimentary material. Simple chords, little trilling, arpeggios, and scale runs. It'll be one of the first pieces classical piano players will tackle when they first start. If you want to learn to play the piano, try this one out! It's fun and you'll learn a lot.
+Jongseong Lee This is easy? I never would have guessed. Just watching it, someone who is clueless as to anything involving piano, that is pretty amazing.
NickLikesMusic Only in terms of learning classical music. You'll start off with stuff much easier to get you into it, but this piece is going to be one your introductory pieces into notable piano pieces. For people looking to play difficult piano music, this is considered easy. If you look at Chopin's Etude Op 10 No.4, this piece doesn't even come close in terms of difficulty.
***** Find a local teacher. They'll be able to get you started right. But if you really want to get into classical pieces, you need to transition into a more rigorous instructor preferably somebody who's had training in a conservatory.
What a performance! Really awesome! I was looking for a human performance of this musical piece because I instantly liked it as soon as I started to heard it and your playing just make me like it even more.
Thank you for this video. It might seen strange, but I never knew that Mozart had written such a sonata, or that he himself considered it to be "for beginners". Having never heard the piece I'm delighted to hear such a lovely melody, especially in the first movement! And then seeing you play it, I can see with my eye how you play it masterfully. Would be challenging to learn, as I'm not only a beginner, but I'd have to play 1 hand at a time ... my right hand is partially disabled. Thanks again!
+Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart HAHA yeah, but you wish you had a piano forte that sounded as good as this one (minus the excessive pedal) when you wrote this piece in the 18th century....
although some may consider mozart more approachable than other composers such as chopin or rachmaninoff, mozart requires a clear sound which cannot be hidden by pedal like in other pieces with a devastating amount of notes
It is excellent! Would you please play Mozart's "Ah ! Vous dirai-je, maman"? I like his happy "glistening" quality of the piano works. Ps, I don't see much Mozart's pieces on your channel. Who's your favorite composers? Thanks.
Your trills are quite impressive. I'm also fond of your use of the damper pedal in the 1st movement. Makes for an interesting rendition. *two big thumbs up*
Paul, it is great to hear you play some Mozart. This is fantastic. Your interpretation of the the first and third movements capture the playful mood of Mozart so well. The serene second movement is particularly well played. Given your superior piano skills, maybe you should play a Fantasy for us.
In the left hand in bar 6 I heard something that is different than I remember. Upon re-listening a few times and looking at the score, I see that the left thumb plays B instead of C (this is at 16 seconds). I'm not sure if this is from a different edition, but I prefer the C, because it gives that minor 7th chord sound (together with the D and F).
Hi paul you play this beautifully, any chance you could re-upload this with an overhead view like on your other recent videos? it would help a lot with learning some of the sections. Thank you anyway for all the videos.
There is Paul again .. wouw really .. I REALLY WISH I am like you later .. I love your videos .. always so stunning !! really impressive work once more !!
phenomenal. the ease with which you play it is amazing. just want to point out you have one note wrong in the section that starts at the 0:23 mark. the left hand should be G,B,D,G|G,C,E,G but you are playing G,B,D,G|G,C,D,G. just sayin'. i confirmed it with multiple sheets and videos of other players.
Hi Paul I don't think I have commented on your video's since I closed my Hamiltonrrw channel. You and my grand daughter are the only pianists I have seen play the repeats of the second mov't. Bill
And he gave this piece to his young pupils to master before he moved them onto something more challenging! Who was it they voted musical genius number one of the Millennium? Robbie Williams?
It's the piano itself, or over-pedaling, or some kind of processing during recording/editing. He plays well, but consistently has problems with muddy sound. He must prefer the sound. Unfortunate; it grows old very fast.
Makes it muddy, imo. That's the thing with Mozart, interpretation very easily breaks Mozart. Especially the pedal at this piece. Blending of the notes isn't fit for this piece. That has little to do with playing it the way you like, more with music theory.
I REMEMBER PLAYING THIS FINGER TWISTER. I PLAYED. ALL. MOVEMENTS. IN. COMPLETION. PERFECTLY. WAY. BACK THEN. IN. JR.COLLEGE. MY. PIANO. INSTRUCTOR. WAS. SO GREAT. BUT. SEEMED. AMAZED.
i have seen many videos of mr.paul he plays in such a manner that its with ease and great hand speed great playing technique can u give me some tips like how to improve left hand speed and to practise songs like beethoven rondo caprio and how long u profeesionals take to complete and perform live, please kindly reply sir :)
simple question : do you have huge hands ? cause they're pretty much staying at the same place, specially during 0:23 when you have to play LH :: SOL-SI-RE-SOL / SOL-DO-MI-SOL for me I have to open my hand very wide while playing this. and by the way I can reach a 10th.
man if it's "economy" my hands are in depression )) but I see what you mean. I never practice technic.. I bought that book "le deliateur" by Van der Velde.. hope this will help.
This was great to watch and listen to.I was just saying how wiki calls it easy or facile. What do you use to work out your hands daily.Hanon? if not did you ever use Hanon.
Yeah, I think so too, but so what? It may not be authentic, but when it's not over used, a hint here and there can add to the atmosphere of the piece - and certainly makes some awkward held notes easier to play!! Despite common belief, some of the fortepianos of Mozart's time did have sustain (knee operated) pedals, so perhaps it's not that inauthentic.
Hey josh, it may seem odd, however, if you listen carefully, you'll notice that no upright or grand sounds like that. Second, even if it is a legit acoustic piano, it is a Yamaha. If you browse yamaha products on their page, you'll notice they sell special units to mute their pianos and play samples instead. I've played alot of those pianos in a library, it's pretty common if you want to practice but you don't want to bother people around you.
music is all about what sounds good. doesnt matter if he used pedal or not. plus, old school pianofortes still had a way of sustaining, you would raise the keys up with your knee.
To be fair: I'd prefer this piece with "finger pedal", but why not?
This is incredible! I aspire to play this as beautifully as you do.
I'm like half way through this and suddenly I realize that its been going on for, like, 10 minutes. Kudos to you, Paul Barton, for such an amazing memory!
I must say the 2nd movement is very underappreciated.
It's my favorite
Started with the second movement. It was so hard to get that! But it is beautiful (the other movements seem easier but faster).
I prefer the second mouvement.
Je préfère le second mouvemement
I love this piece, its simple, yet is extremely beautiful. Wonderful interpretation, perfect timing.

Sorprendente! Il tempo è perfetto e i tasti sono toccati con la giusta distinzione. Bravissimo👏👏👏👏🤩🤩
I've never known that Mozart's pieces would sound fantastic with a pedal. The second slow movement sounds so romantic rather than classical.. Nice playing.
That tempo perfectly mantained!
Well this is .....perfect ! Love it...will be returning again and again...
I'm almost speechless...more than beautiful, you're my inspiration
I am hoping I can play this like you one day :) Great job - so clean... but I'd love to hear it with a little less sustain
the Knitty Litter *cough*no sustain at all *cough cough*
the ease with which this guy plays it is just impressive. good hands bro, good hands.
Beautiful playing with a lot of grace and charm. Thank you for sharing this, Paul.
This is so sparkling and wonderful! It came up on autoplay as I working and I had to pause to see who was playing!
Wow! So fast! It took me 2 months to play at this speed!
@@Andras_Schiff I learned all the notes as a 10 month beginner, but am sort of struggling to perfect it. Should I even be working on it?

Intermediate: this sonata
Difficult: Chopin's etudes

Love it. the Rondo it's magnificent.
Need some advice.. You think the 1st movement would sounds as good a bit slower? I find it fast..
Laurie FORTIN FEILER I found it apt
Such energy on the first movement and third movement I suspected no pedal? You are using finger pedaling--such virtuosity! Thanks for sharing!
2nd movement - 4:29
3rd movement- 11:02

It's the second movement of this sonata. There are three movements.

How the hell do you make an upright sound this good? Your playing baffles me.
Why the pedal?? It's Mozart
TheGreatNorth i thought the same
The problem is it is Mozart!!You have to think of its period when you play music!I think it is a respect of music and the composer.
